Great video as always! I 100% agree with your about the Trail bike. I got into MTB last year and got fixated on buying a light XC bike. It has been really fun but the truth is, when you not racing or looking for performance but only having fun in the mountain, a trail bike makes way more sense. Easiest on technical terrain, more forgiving and more confortable...
I recently bought a new trail bike and it is a gamechanger! I'd very much like to race with it instead of my old hardtail. From 100mm / 120mm (i removed a spacer inside) and 32mm stanchions to 140mm front & rear 35mm stanchions gaved me so much confidence and a more comfortable ride.
My times also improved on a relatively short loop ~17mins with uphills and downhills.
No enduro and downhill. :-( This is where the fun begins.
Love my old specialized evo camber 2015 120mm converted it to downcountry it can climb and can take trails and still very fast
Y'all are sleeping on the new Countrydown bikes, sick on the last 5/8ths of climbs on trails with curved rocks and cedar tree roots, and fully capable on the downhills if there's an air humidity of at least 40%.
They also have a hub noise only bats and dolphins can hear.
I have an alloy trail bike. It's over 14kg and really sluggish on climbs. The trails I'm usually rinsing are fairly tame. I think I want to trade it in for a lighter XC bike.
Try to put lighter tires on it. It will make difference.
Ny newest xc hardtails has 30 mm wide wheels and 29x2,40 tires front and back

So a trail bike can be a cross country bike if its set up with different components? Also a cross country bike can be set up as a trail bike?
You can't really change the components as you want to, the forces your frame need to accomodate are calculated using specific axle to crown length and more. This is why it's not advised to put a way longer fork on your bike. I went from 100 to 120mm on my ht and it feld way worse on the climbs, for example.
The bike he's showing a little buffed up xc bike. It's not unusual in today's world to see wider tires in raugh terrain. 120mm is, yet again, the new standard, as suspension tech progresses. 130-140mm in the front with 100-120mm rear can be considered a full "downcountry" bike.
What type of bike is best if you ride natural trails that are mostly flat (no mountains nearby)
@odrianbugarini Hey thanks for the ideas. Been thinking about a gravel bike for some longer distances too. The chisel standover is a bit high for me🙄
I think XC will be enough. If it's flat, you won't be going fast enough to need any more suspension probably

I think downcountry shouldn't exist as a term. It's splitting hairs. For ex, is my top fuel [which is a cross country bike] really a down country with it's 120mm suspension travel and XR4 tires? Most cross country pros are riding bikes with 120mm of travel as well.
This whole “down country” stuff started with Pinkbike (I think) and now everyone has run with it! As soon as I come across an article or video mentioning “down country” I immediately skip it! Remember when we used to just call them “mountain bikes”?🤔
@@kyleericson9777 😂😂 exactly. I'm going to start labeling them "some squish, a little more squish and a whole heep of squish"
They may label it CX but you could out perform a pure CX with that TF on the trails I ride, especially if they kick out to 66° H A. Flat land with short very steep ups and downs. That is what makes it down country to me. Those CX bikes with 67 68° head angles just can't handle fast speed pointing straight down for 50' but that Top Fuel can. But you are right, that is splitting hairs. Love the one about squish 😂😂
@@saddleweary2777 CX? on trail? you must be drunk. I though CX has tire that not bigger than 700x34c and use dropbar?
