Good afternoon Ryan . I enjoy watching your videos . I do most of my truck repairs just by learning new tricks from you . I have a 2007 Freightliner Century with a Detroit 60 14 L in it . I have been having a problem with my Davco fuel and water separator unit . I installed a new filter in it .After 60 miles of driving , the fuel keeps getting lower than the fuel lines sending air with fuel to the injectors causing loss of power , shacking and white smoke. I replaced the filter again , I replaced all the fuel lines from the tanks all the way to the Davco unit and back ,I also replaced the fuel pump plus the the fuel lines ,I checked all connections and made sure that there is no air or fuel leak anywhere . The problem still exist . I have been topping the container with fuel half way through my trips so I don't mess up the injectors. repair shops couldn't find the problem ,some of them suggested that I replace the whole water separator unit . So before I buy and replace a new unit , I decided to get your advice first . Thank you.
Same shit happening to my d13. I did not replace anything yet. Tried to pressurize lines between tanks and water separator did not find any leaks. When i opened small cap on water separator and put some air on my drivers side tank i got bubbles come up through fuel feed to delco. Did that till bubbles disappeared so gonna take a load and see what happens. Have you figured out your issues is ?
Hi . I like your videos! I have Detroit series 60 12,7 liters, and I have only water separator and no fuel filter , I know some guys install full filter by themselves, should I do it to? What suggestions would you give. Thank you. Vj
Hey Ryan I just replaced this fuel filter and drained it aswell to clean it out. I’m having trouble starting up the truck since it was drained. What can I do? TIA!
Im a long haul truck driver currently but currently looking into becoming a heavy diesel Mechanic. Still haven’t fully committed to the path yet but would like to get back to problem solving and working with my hands at some point. Been doing a lot of work on my personal Truck on home time and am really enjoying the process. Worked with machines my whole life but never thought id enjoy fixing them. Wondering if you have any insight into the CAT and Cummins apprenticeships as a jump off point getting into the industry?
I have a gauge in my truck labeled fuel filter and it's measured with IN HG. Was told that's inches of mercury. But is this the filter for that gauge or would it be the other one? I have an X15
Hey Ryan great job.i have learned something new.i think i could change my fuel filter by myself just by this video.Ryan i have question about my fifth wheel and kingpin.i feel a kind of 2 and fro movement when i stop and throttle as if my fifth wheel locking jaw ain't fully latching the kingpin.its like the kingpin is wornout or the fifth wheel latching needs some work or a change.can u explain what is happening and the consequences if i don't have that checked out soonest?thanks
I'd say every oil change.. I have a gauge on mine that shows me what % it's filtering at. The more it's plugged up the more pressure it needs to pump thru.
This needs to be checked with pre trip, if you see that the filter is brownish and the the thing is full of fuel you will know that you have to change it😊
Do you think the N-14 red top is a good engine. I found a 2006 W900 .Ex Cattle hauler with 900k has rebuilt engine transmission, differential , and ECM replaced . Should I stay away? Thanks
I have a truck question! I have a 99 c6500 cat 3126 6speed and 4.11 diff 19060s can I put a 2speed diff 19060t in my housing? Can’t find answer anywhere and thought of you please help!
After my truck sits all night the fuel drains out of the Filter/fuel water separator. I have to refill it to get the truck to start. Any idea what causes this?
brake cleaner makes the plastic turn cloudy and should never be used on the plastic, the spring was broken or needed stretch, it had the wrong filter in it for that engine, you didnt clean the filter housing surface, once it is started you should check for fuel being above the black ring for it not sucking air, hopefully the filter you installed is a 25 micron and correct for that engine
@@1965clementso the engine gets enough fuel pressure while filtering.. if you don't have the right filter the engine is not going to get enough fuel to work. properly.
I would have put a clean towel to put things on instead of even cleaning things up and putting them back in the grit. Even wipe your fingers off through the process. Keep things clean, clean, clean

Thank you for all the help 🙏🏽. Dude you are appreciated!!!
You are welcome! 🤗
Ryan, great video. Thank you for sharing. Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Are you sure that 3rd o-ring doesn't go on the outside of the clear cap/housing, but under the threaded ring?
doesn't the brake clean damage the plastic filter globe?
I just have 2 spin on filters on my cm871, do you recommend changing over yo a davco fuel water separator?
Other then not lubing the o rings up this is perfect practice (NEW GUYS NOTICE HOW TO HOLDS DOWN THE FILTER HOUSING AS HE SPINS THE RING TIGHT!!)
I typically don’t live the o rings on this type. It is not necessary
But thank you for pointing it out!

How often does this need to be done ?

Thanks!
I never knew there was a water drain on the bottom!
How about on the Paccar motors…. ? Has different separator.

Why does the fuel level go down after I unscrew the top black cap?

Very nice.. I was draining too much..
Really u r expert
Hi Ryan, I am new to this, is the ERG ( exhaust gas temperature ) Sensor?
You mean EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation). There are multiple sensors for EGR, not sure what you're trying to ask?
Like to learn, thx
Any time!
Hello Ryan, how can we contact you for some questions. Awesome videos !
I would have put a clean towel to put things on instead of even cleaning things up and putting them back in the grit. Even wipe your fingers off through the process. Keep things clean, clean, clean
I noticed there was no lubricant for those O rings
I wouldn't use brake cleaner, it is little bit hard on the plastic housing

Whys that filter turning red? 😂
