She had kids when she was in a boho mother phase and now she probably wishes she didn't do it. She goes through phases all the time and always has. Then she drops whatever she was doing for the next thing. But she can't do that with her kids like she did with her pets over and over again so she's probably resentful and miserable.

Yesssss. My mom is like this woman. Luckily my little brother and I have always been able to take the dogs she's gotten over the years. My little brother leaves his dog with her while he goes to work so she at least no longer feels like filling the want for another dog in a few years. But neither of us ever trust her to keep a pet herself because she only ever likes "the idea" of having a pet, but not the actual work. Honestly... same with parenting... it's a miracle my brothers and I survived to adulthood... a lot like this TH-camr...

yeah our dog came from one of these situations. girl, acquaintance, adopted him bc he's cute and from a trendy dog breed, he's a corgi, then after some weeks got annoyed by his barking so we took him in. he was so poorly socialized that now 2 years later we are still training him every single time we meet new dog. his barking is pretty normal now, for a corgi at least but it was terrible at the beginning. we also found out that he was probably trained to poop on a certain blanket bc everytime we put that blanket on the floor he would go potty there. we also had to go to the hospital and he was in icu only two weeks after we got him bc of an illness that takes about 20 days to show symptoms and is one of the base vaccines, that the girl forgot to get. the first few months were a hot mess with him but now he's well behaved, well trained and his social issues are getting better tho the dog psychologist we work with says his bad socialization as a puppy might impact him for the rest of his life. it is managable tho and we never had any incidents. he also is such a sweet boy that needs tons of attention and he can communicate very good with humans just not so much with other dogs.

I had a friend whose wife was just like this, kept getting kittens and puppies and then within a few months I'd hear about them rehoming them. Usually due to moving, allegedly not having been allowed to have pets where they were renting, etc. One time during covid he messaged me at midnight saying they had a cat and he couldn't keep it cause their new place someone had a dog and it didn't like cats. So at midnight a cat was dropped off at my house with NOTHING for it, no food, no litterbox, no toys nothing. Thankfully I had a bunch of old stuff from when I had a cat myself and went to get food in the morning. Within a month or so I saw a post from his wife about their new puppy. 😑 And well F them I got a cat I absolutely love and she's thriving

I think my older dog is one of the "we got it as a puppy and didn't care for the dog once it was no longer young and cute" dogs. As far as I know the family she was from wasn't as extreme as your friend, but obviously I only have as much info as I got from the shelter - since they knew when her birthdate was I assume the previous owners had her as a puppy, and she was only a year and a half when they gave her away (supposedly because of "change of lifestyle" - they kept the OTHER dog, though; also having 3 children aged 9-13 in that house apparently not a single person was able to take out the dog so one of her behavior notes was that she would pee in her crate. Like, duh, because none of you are taking her out???)
So the cool thing is the dog that the family kept is a golden retriever, and she HATES golden retrievers. She also basically inhales food, so I have to wonder what else was happening in her previous home.
People who just get rid of dogs because they aren't cute anymore are so fucking disgusting.
Now I have to go because my dog is sleeping in my room and can't figure out how to cover herself with a blanket.

My partner's mum kept taking strays off the streets and stopped doing it when one of the newest strays started attacking her own tail viciously, she still has like.. 10-15 cats and a dog. We keep begging her to take them to a shelter because she's REALLY bad at taking care of her pets. She yells at them all the time to the point where I don't think we've seen her in a decent mood in years, she also neglects them quite a bit, overfeeds them to hell and back and gets unreasonably mad when we ask her to give them away/put them in a shelter. We live with her and we're usually the ones dealing with these cats we don't want. All of them have some sort of issue, most of them avoid the litterbox and just use my partner's mother's bed as their place to shit/piss. (if that isn't spite, I dunno what is)
Also, due to her overfeeding and literally feeding the dog inedible things, the dog has gone completely blind.

Me and my kids always take them in, do our best to help, get them to a vet, cleaned up and healthy and find a new home or keep them. It’s a massive financial burden but I can’t imagine just letting them suffer. People should not get animals they can’t take care of. A mistake is one time. This story has habitual problems

But also, side note, all my dogs over my lifetime have always been “free fed” meaning we leave out more food than they’ll want or need. There’s always food outside and their water is an auto filler attached to the water hose so that never runs out either. This style of feeding prevents the doggos from fighting over food or speed eating to the point of sickness. It is something That you have to teach them to trust but it does work. We are blessed to live on a big tract of land where my animals can roam free without a fence and all have their own space and “territory”

Cats are usually fine for an overnight stay but you definitely need someone to come and check on them if you're going to be gone longer than overnight. They could knock over the water dish or get into something and you'd have no idea, so someone to just come and make sure everything is good is needed.

Yea that's why we would put out multiple bowls of water before we got a cat who will literally put her food in her water and now we have to have people come over twice a day when we leave to fix that 😂😂😂 but cats can normally be left for up to 3-5 days, just you leave like 3 litter boxes (which you should already probably have if you don't want your house to stink even normally lol) and have someone come 2 days in to change litter boxes if you have more than 2 cats or if you have picky cats. If you have a kitty door though they should be fine for a long time, up to a week as long as you have someone come check the water and food, assuming they understand exactly the huge amount of food you have to leave out, every few days. And of course you have to have a normal cat. (That doesn't throw food in its water and can free feed.) 😂😂 best case scenario though is find someone who wants to come hang out with a cat daily while you're gone. See: me as a college student lol. Then they can even get their tuna every day (wet cat food) while you're gone and they might not mob you for it when you get home. 😂😂

I totally agree with this. My parents were super lax with it and for as long as I can remember never actually taught me how to shower or brush my teeth or incorporate it into my life, let alone brushing at night-time, they didn't even do that themselves. They would instead shame me or punish me if I didn't bathe or brush on a given day. To this day, I still don't brush at night, it just feels unnatural! I want to change it but it's hard as an adult. And my teeth are effed, I lost a tooth when I was 21 and it doesn't help that my parents don't believe in dental care or paying for it. In school we were taught to go to the dentist twice a year, but my parents just thought it was a waste of money. They never got me braces either when I was a kid and it would've been cheap. So my teeth suck and it all sucks ugh parents do better! That's why it's so important to get kids to feel positively about their hygiene + routines from a young age.

Just a quick note as a dog groomer because its a huge pet peeve of mine- there is no such thing as a truly hypoallergenic dog! Curly-coated dogs are just less likely to make allergies flare due to the fact that their curly coat traps in the dander. Goldendoodles and other poodle mixes are also more likely to cause reactions than a purebred poodle, due to their curls being looser and that they shed more than poodles do.

I wish I learned how important oral hygiene was growing up b/c I had beautiful teeth before. Perfectly straight.. ppl always assumed I had braces at some point. My mouth was basically all root canals/crowns by the time I started saving for perma dentures & they were all failing & needed to be replaced. My teeth didn’t look bad but they were. Sooo from the time I got my first root canal, to today.. I didn't brush often growing up due to neglect and then depression. I lost all the hard enamel from my teeth before I was 20 and have had 4 root canals from extreme sensitivity (those are usually only recommended for when infections kill the tooth - I had 1 for that). I also need a prescription for my toothpaste due to the sensitivity of my remaining teeth and they put gluma desensitizer on my teeth with every cleaning.
And like your example shows, I'm lucky enough that my genetics have allowed me to mostly just have a mouth full of fillings instead of not teeth at all.
No hard enamel before age 20 and 5 root canals before hitting my mid30s being lucky says it all though - Acacia is setting her children up for failure if they even make it out of childhood. At most I'd leave my cat for 1 1/2 days if it's an emergency - like leaving late at night and coming back early morning the 2nd day. Anything more than that and you absolutely need someone to look after the cat (feeding, fresh water, cleaning the litter box and playing/cuddling for a while) at LEAST once a day. Most cats do way better with staying at home and having someone look after them there than being brought to a new environment for the time you're not home, but every good cat servant knows their cat's character and what their feline overlord prefers.

Just so you know, my cousins, a vet no dogs are actually hypoallergenic! The allergy comes from the dander, that any dog or cat gets from their skin! Maybe your dog just doesn’t have as much dander! Some are less some have more depending on the hair type!

Leaving a cat alone for 4 days with nobody to check on them is disgusting. I adopted a 1 year old puppy in january on a whim (we decided to adopt within a day of seeing him) and I quickly became so utterly attached and smitten with him. He is my everything. I get so excited to introduce him to people and i always show everyone i meet photos of him because he's so utterly adorable. His name is Boba (he was named after the star wars character, he came to us with that name, we opted to not rename him.) And he's an adorable pug beagle mix. He's a big chunky 40 lb boy, very muscular. He's a little devilish and mischevious, but he is absolutely friendly and playful, with both people and dogs, he's even tried to play with potbelly pigs because he thought they were dogs. In the first few months he was home, i did my best to expose him to as many new things as possible and help him adjust to his new home. Having a new puppy was such a huge change for me and such a big responsibility and i forced myself to step up to the plate despite how stressful dog parenthood could be (i was a child when we got my previous two dogs, so i didnt have any idea of responsibility back then) so it was very new to me.
I became so attached to boba that when i visited my dad out of state i cried hysterically because i missed him so much. The difference here is that i do not live alone, i live with my mother and she was with him, and a family friend would come to visit him and check in on him daily. I was so happy when I got home that i cried again. If I could, I'd take my puppy everywhere with me. The fact that Boba (the pup) came into my life was the best thing that ever happened to me and if someone wanted to take him from me they'd have to brutally pry him from my cold, dead, rigor mortis-laden hands. Boba is the light of my life, I hate leaving him at home.
My point is, acacia is clearly shallow and incapable of being responsible for another vulnerable living being. She's a terrible mother and a terrible animal owner and I hope those kids get taken in by other relatives.

like i kindaaaa understand the idea of not forcing ur kids to do something they may not want to do so they can gain a sense of bodily autonomy, but i would reserve that more for like if they dont want to go with you to a family friends place or getting a kiss or hug when they dont feel like being touched, at least trying to gently lead a healthy daily routine and explaining why those habits would be good while *also* explaining that sometimes skipping a day when you are just not feeling very good or are feeling tired doesnt mean youre doing a bad job, but with all the other stuff shes doing its clear that shes just using the "i wont judge my kids for not brushing their teeth or not wanting to change out of their jamas for days" as a weird excuse for what is straight up neglect, cause while children should be allowed autonomy, children THAT YOUNG need guidance to develop into functional independent people, which their mother clearly is not

  • @vpenguin333
    @vpenguin333 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Since you mentioned not knowing stuff about cats, here's my experience with cats. Depending on the cat, you could leave a cat alone for a couple days provided you had ample food and water (the two bowls of food for four days probably wasn't enough unless they were overflowing with food and were big bowls, but even then, I'd worry about enough dry food being there). Some cats only eat when hungry and only eat a little at a time, so you can have a feeder that's just a jug filled with kibble pouring into the bowl - my family had one of these for my cats when I was growing up. My current cat, however, is a chow hound, and you can't just have a bowl full of food for her to graze on since she'd just gobble it down and meow for more. So, yes, for a weekend you might be able to get away with leaving a lot of food and water around if a cat has certain eating behaviors, but four days with two bowls of food and no mention of water doesn't sound adequate at all. I'd also worry about the litterbox situation after a couple of days unless she provided multiple litterboxes (which seems doubtful in this situation). A lot of cats I've cared for would start using the floor or plants if the litterbox wasn't cleaned and emptied after a couple days. I wouldn't leave a cat alone in the home for more than 48 hours.

The breeds of dogs she continually gets are literally the "rehome" breeds. No matter how many aussie or border collie puppies you get, or god forbid theyre mixed with heeler like mine.. or are just straight heeler.. it's gonna turn out the same. If you arent ready for them (i wasn't but i love my dog - never would have gotten a heeler or a border collie in a million years, ended up with an aussie/heeler mix and shes a nightmare lol but the sweetest dog ever and so good and so SMART) but if you arent ready for those breeds the first time around or aren't committed enough to a dog in general (i planned to get a more challenging dog in the future like a Pyrenees so i was just like "oh, here's a challenging dog now i guess") you are going to fail every single time. Most people dont want a puppy or a dog they want the memory of their old dog that was 10, possibly half dead, and perfectly trained (by their parents) and they have no clue how much time, effort, and just sheer waiting for the dog to grow older and calm the hell down it takes to get that dog. And i honestly weep knowing that the day will come when my dog will calm down. She won't always be an insane velociraptor (omg just looked over at her she's peacefully laying down resting - I'm doing her so dirty) 6 month old heeler nutcase dog that's bitey when she gets too hyped up. She'll calm down at some point and some of the 73% aussie will take over - and heelers calm down too.. but like... some people don't want dogs they want stuffed animals. Gladly i wanted a dog so whatever this freaking heeler throws at me im ready lol. She brings me so much joy. Other people dont get that joy from dogs or dont think the work is worth it. Or they dont want to problem solve when problems arise. So dogs like mine get rehomed all the time because "there must be something wrong with this dog" but they just didn't research the breed enough. I mean, sheesh i didnt either but i didnt even know i was getting this breed 😂😂😂 (aussie owners look at me horrified when i tell them about her behavior. The vet, trainers, and heeler/border collie owners are like "oh yea she's such a sweet perfect bitey little baby wabey". The ACD subreddit says even 5% heeler and it takes over the entire dog 😂)

The leaving food out for 4 days is messed up to me, as a cat owner. Firstly your cats food and water bowl should ideally be washed or changed every day/every other day to avoid bacteria growing in the bowls and making the cat sick. On top of that, I could see the ants being an issue the moment you said "left out two bowls of food for 4 days" that alone is a recipe for disaster. She should have gotten someone to catsit.

Cats are pretty independent, but they can get really stressed out when their environment changes, which includes leaving them alone for days. I had to leave my cat alone for 3 days, I had an automatic feeder set up to where he would be fed 4 times a day, because he has to be fed small amounts throughout the day. And then I had a friend come everyday to refill his water, scoop his litter, and make sure the feeder was working. I can’t imagine just leaving your pet with no one to check up on them.

Yes, the Sphynx cats are hypoallergenic. There are some other hypoallergenic breeds as well. I'm mildly allergic to one of my cats, but I just deal with it. I love her, so I just keep my face away from her while cuddling. I also wash my hands frequently to minimize the dander that I'm exposed to.
Cats are unlike dogs in that they are typically able to graze on food, rather than wolfing it all down. I have left my cats alone for 2 nights before - leaving them plenty of food and water. (We keep water in 3 different places for them... extra love? lol) I've never left them for any longer without having friends/family stop by to check on them.
We also use 2 Litter Robots for 3 cats. (After using these for 3 years, I could never go back to regular boxes. They do still require proper cleaning/washing)

There are currently no breed standards for doodles (because they’re mutts that are unethically bred) so it’s impossible to predict what their coats will turn out like. Some are curly, some are wirey, some are shaggy. Sometimes they’re more Poodle-like & sometimes they’re more Labrador or Golden. Sometimes they shed only a little, while others shed a bunch. These backyard breeders like to say doodles are hypoallergenic to sell them at a higher price. If you really want a hypoallergenic dog, just go to a reputable breeder & get a Poodle. Tbh it's fine to leave your cat for a few days if they have a clean litterbox (preferrably two for one cat and 3 for 2 cats). Leave them like 3 bowls of food and excessive amounts of water. The max I would leave my cat is like 2.5 days. Any more than that, I ask a friend to check in and clean the litter box. My cat gets lonely after being alone for a while so 4 days does sound a little excessive to me. Though, I wouldn't call that animal abuse per se. My cat is fine with grazing and will not eat all their food at one time. But all animals are different so who knows what her cat is like.

If I would have just left a few bowls sitting out they’d have gone hungry.
Edit: I’ve also got 3 kids (10,4,2) This woman is just nuts and lazy. Possibly has some serious mental health or addiction issues. Those kids need to be taken from her before they end up kidnapped or dead.
