I saw this when it first came out at the drive in. It was the second feature of the night so it didn't start until about 10:30pm. I was so scared we had to leave early. I would have been 6 at the time. I would have been ok if my dad had been with that night. Just my mom and sister, dad was working.
Howards End, indeed!! Another great film, but poles apart from this one!!! Wonderful stuff, I grew up in the 70's and never forgot how good this film is. Wish directors were this clever these days!!
I like this movie! Mainly because of Oates and Fonda, doing their thing: Fonda (as Cox says) being a louche-type 70's guy, and Oates being, well, WARREN OATES, especially when he's showing off his motor home.
My main memories of this are an unintentionally hilarious sequence with a stuffed dog, and wondering why Lara Parker (who was tremendous on Dark Shadows) had no role beyond screaming and being frightened.
Opening bit: ...a pair of movies demonstrating the perils of road travel. The first is an odd, unusual horror film from 1975, Race With the Devil. Directed in Texas by Jack Starrett, author of Slaughter, Cleopatra Jones and A Small Town in Texas, Race With the Devil combines elements of the road movie, the counter-culture movie, a motor-home movie and Night of the Living Dead.
Moviedrome films were great for a teenager starting their film education and seeing these films for the first time. Loved the Alex Cox intros too.
Alex Cox's intros were as good as the movies they accompanied; great post- pub viewing back in 1990 (?)
I watched this movie on British tv even before movie drone screened it. It scared the living daylights out of me.
One of my favourites but can’t find it anywhere 😅
I originally uploaded this to youtube years ago. I recognise the cut off at the beginning.
Still one of my favourite films.

The film still creeps me out.
The ending is unreal. There's no escape.
Cox’s legendary movie 🎥 Repo Man 🤘💙❤️💙❤️

Many thanks indeed!
The director would go on to appear in First blood as one of the deputies who antagonises Sylvester Stallone..
A Motorhome movie😂
