      He's a lying, manipulative psychopath : He, Gamora and Peter Dinklage seem to be the last of their respective species/communities, ,and they all three fell victim to his failed politics... so he lied about all of it, it seems, and the Russos didn't carry that theme into the setting of _Endgame_ , so there's still infrastructure and normal peace in the world *after 5 years* , and it only seems that there's chaos on other planets, with Captain Marvel's comment, as it doesn't seem like Rocket wanted her to help with any big war on Earth...
      So yeah, and they used this subtle characterization to make a different villain, by hiding how much of a villain he is, so that's how he's a great one...

    I really like how this video subtly defends the Republic system that the Founding Fathers put into place (for they were also under a centralized system, and made a system specifically to combat any central power) while simultaneously shooting down the defenses of the Communist, Socialist, and even radical Democratic systems that put minor populace, over the major. Communism and socialism are more obvious in their goals, but a democracy is always what has to start the road to socialism and communism. It's like putting a frog into a pot of boiling water. It will simply jump right back out.
    But if you put it in a lukewarm pot, and slowly heat it up until it's boiling, the frog will be boiled alive.
    Democracy is the lukewarm pot. Socialism and communism is the boiling point, and the frog is obviously the people.
    This is why America is a republic. The Founding Fathers did not want any one person or government in total control of the people. Why do you think they first established the Articles of Confederation, where the people had the most power?
    This is what people often overlook or ignore about our country and countries around the world.

    This was very well done and i find that i agree with you very much. That ofcourse doesnt make it right or correct in any sense, but it is also the only possible path forward that doesnt kill us all off first in order to reach the goal.
    If humanity is to live on we have to solve this problem as the free people that we are without a dictatorship. There is also a good reason why we know that Thanos is wrong, because we value life over death and we always will, that goes for the rich oil owner down to the destitute farmer in communist North Korea.
    We all want to solve this problem, so we are all working on it, however if you are given a dictator that controls your life and promises that he will solve it, you have less minds working on it. So the chance that he is the person to figure it all out is 1/8,000,000,000 just today.

      ALL despots (which includes all communists) are deathly afraid of a backstabbing minion or an uprising of the populace.
      Comics Thanos (from my understanding of him) wasn't nihilist at all - he was just suicidal from living literal eons after making himself immortal. He'd come to the conclusion that death was a spurned lover, and was giving Her "gifts" in hopes of finally leaving this mortal coil. That isn't a philosophy of "nothing matters", it's a philosophy of "Help! I can't die and I am really sick of living!"

China was used as an example in this, but it is not mentioned that China's standard of living has actually risen significantly under the Communist Party. Pollution in China is a result of them producing for Western countries in factories.
      And Communism, Fascism, and Socialism are all different from each other to begin with. Comparing eco-Fascism or Communism to Thanos' plan and then saying "this is why central planning is good" is just a straw man that doesn't take into account the shortcomings of Capitalism/economic freedom. You do realize that using this maniacal plan to kill trillions as a comparison to authoritarianism is a false equivalency?

    Seriously Thanos was an idiot, with the great neigh infinite power of the Infinity Stones he could have just doubled or tripled the quote unquote 'finite resources' in the universe and had a net better result. Those finite resources being in close proximity to existing resources, correct? Wouldn't that effectively double or triple the mass of the planet (living space, farmland, oil, metal ores, etc.)? The change in gravitational pull on humans alone could be severely detrimental, not to mention how it would affect the orbit of the planet around the sun. And about the sun, are stars resources for some advanced alien race? If so, would those have to be doubled or tripled?
      Of the two choices, I think Thanos took the less dangerous route. Even if you attempt to change the fundamental laws of the universe and the forces within to account for the sudden increase in mass and energy, you might still cause more damage than the original thanos snap.

But rather it's because there's someone that will undo all his achievement that's made him mad. Thanos didn't fail on his own accord, in fact, that's what the first part of Endgame is basically all about, Thanos already achieved his goal and he destroyed the stones to make sure that his goal will forever be completed. However, he doesn't expect that time travel without the time stone is possible. Do I have to remind you that this draw a parallel to how a more powerful country want to keep smaller countries aligned to its economic ideal? Other countries don't want economic system that is "one-sized fit-all" so they experimented with their own, but more powerful countries won't let them succeed.

    Another video that perfectly sums up why the "Thanos Was Right" or "Thanos Has A Point" crowd are kind of dumb and why I really do not like either "Avengers: Infinity War" or "Avengers: Endgame" for being films that thing they are more topical than they actually are, yet severely overly simply such a complicated issue and ideas that the films barely explores.

    • @callummoore6962
      @callummoore6962 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Christian Tompkins I've heard this argument before and it really doesn't dismiss on what I've just said.
      You don't just start a film or have moments of films in which a character starts philosophising and don't follow through from it or provide any counter-points points to such an idea. The main issue with "Infinity War" in particular is that it is a film in which the plot and story are constantly at odds with each other. The story and meat of the story is mainly through Thanos who has like 45 minutes of screentime, yet the rest of the 2 hours of the film really is nothing but the heroes explaining what just happened or what is going to happen.....literally adding nothing to the idea and making a lot of the themes severely underdeveloped since perspective is hardly there. That to me is just spectacularly lazy storytelling.
      This is why I love "The Dark Knight" so much mainly because it actually understands that in order for a story to be fully developed, you kind of have to explore or display different angles to it. If a film is nothing more than just character interactions with no real substance, there is no story.

    • @callummoore6962
      @callummoore6962 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Christian Tompkins That doesn't really saying anything or counter anything with what I've just said. If anything, the film really should have just have just stuck with the nihilistic motivations and goals of Thanos from the comics since that would actually be an interesting or at least paralleled counterpoint to the point of the heroes that you are talking about without any of the environmental pretenses that the film version of Thanos displays, which film doesn't counter on as this channel has said in his previous video on Thanos sicne the whole "killing half the universe" is a very "no duh" and as I've said incredibly overly simple way of approaching the idea which just makes the films rather pretentious. Yet the film had Tony Stark who is the perfect counter-argument to what Thanos is talking and is everything that this channel is talking about, but the films do literally nothing with it.
      There is a reason why most if not all event comics are often not seen as stories that are remotely in leagues with "The Dark Knight Returns", "All Star Superman" or "Watchmen" since those books are actually rich and everything is there to develop its ideas in some way. A story in which most of the characters do nothing but explain what is going on and what is about to happen is not story or character development.

    • @callummoore6962
      @callummoore6962 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Christian Tompkins If anything you telling me that these films in terms of themes have the "Man of Steel" problem of throwing way too many eggs in one basket to the point in which there is no story since the ideas are barely developed or are bogged down by other stuff that goes no where.

    • @callummoore6962
      @callummoore6962 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Christian Tompkins Wow way too overly simply Thanos and the actual dimensions that he actually has in the comics that you pretend he doesn't have. The reason why Thanos is obsessed with Death is because of his growing fascinating with the nihilistic worldview after being an outsider on Titan. Lady Death just further enforces that obsession. A villain doesn't have to be sympathetic or have a point in order to be effective, just interesting and develop the themes in one way. I mean look at The Joker, whether it is Mark Hamill, Heath Ledger or the comic book version, he is not a sympathetic villain in the slightest, yet he is one of the most popular villains in pop culture.
      Even if the films i suppose to be going the "sympathetic" route like he is Space Magneto or Space Punisher, even with those characters go a lot deeper in explore the problems with their way about it beyond the whole "killing people is wrong" or "people are sad" (which are the "No duh" points that I am talking about that actually deep) and a sympathetic characters require pathos, logos or ethos in order to actually achieve being sympathetic as many writing professors and philosophy majors would tell you. All Thanos is when it comes to being "sympathetic" is a bunch of overly pathological nonsense that fails at being some sort of commentary with nothing resembling ethos or logos behind it which is clearly the intend if you read any interviews with the writers and directors of the film. If you have to resort to interviews like that to explain certain details in the film, you have failed as storytellers.

(www.nytimes.com/elections/2016/results/president - red is majority Republican / climate change shruggers, blue is majority Democrat / climate change alarmists) Coincidence? Not likely.

    Thanos is a virtuous villain : after wiping out half of the Universe's life, as was his goal, he does not get corrupted by the absolute power he now possesses and proceeds to go to his garden to end his days. That shows absolute integrity.

    In the source material, the motivation for THANOS was as follows: he thought by killing half of all life, he could impress the living personification of death, and win her over. I can defend THANOS by saying that the screen writers had nothing to work with. There simply isn't any possible justification for the goals of THANOS.

      Correct me if I'm wrong, but they didn't live in a free market capitalist society back then. It was feudalism, which was a top-bottom economic system that already oppressed people and kept them from contributing individually to society. So the comparison doesn't work.

    • @TheAhmost
      @TheAhmost 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Asa-bh7zi True, correlation is not causation. But the arguments made by the historians kinda show a causation in this case.
      It is a simple offer/demand law : Less worker, more value for them, and they knew it. The benefits of unions without the need to organize.
      Wages increase, landlord and industry owner could not push workers one against the others.
      But if you have source pointing that this was just in continuity with a "rise" in civilization, I would be happy to read it. It could be really interesting.

      @@jennyraylen8410 Interesting point.
      I am no economist, so I may have misinterpret some things. Perhaps you could enlight me.
      In my humble opinion, feudalism is not incompatible with free market. Feudalism is a society model for legal and military matters, not economy one. We could easily imagine a society with free market (anyone can just sell and buy freely, and become rich thanks to it) with feudalism (but you cannot by nobility, and will always be judged as less important than nobility).
      But maybe I am wrong. How would you describe the economic model back then? (I don't understand what a top bottom economic system means. When researching it, I only find advice on investment)
