    After watching this video and hearing the questions about colorfastness of the overdid cotton flosses, I thought I'd chime in with what I do: Before stitching with any overdyed *cotton* floss (regardless of whether the tag says its colorfast or not), I mix up 1 Tbsp. white vinegar + 1 C. cold tap water and soak the floss in this mixture for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, I rinse the floss under running cold water for a few minutes and then lay it out on white paper towels, blotting them and then leaving them to dry. If any of the color transfers to the paper towels, I put the floss back in a cup of cold tap water for another 20 minutes / rinse under cold tap water / repeat as necessary until none of the color transfers to white paper towels. The floss colors have never looked faded or distorted in any way after doing this, and I've never had color run on my finished pieces when I wash or steam iron them. Hope this helps!

      This is how we used to keep our jeans from fading, washing in White Vinegar and I thought of doing this too. Thank you for sharing.

    I am a long time quilter but a relatively new cross stitcher ( 3 yrs) . I learned a lot today. Interestingly , I bought a kit about 10 years ago to embroidery and it had cosmo floss. I really loved that floss, but didn’t know much about it until today. Appreciate all your floss packs and everything you make so easily accessible to us.

I want every color of Aurifloss for a wall display. Totally agree with do what makes you happy. My happy is DMC and 14 count white Aida (silver sparkle).

    Nice video! I just recently started using silks and I LOVE THEM! The stitches just *slide* through the cloth and they look so pretty! The cost is what stops most people - to kit up a project can be expensive. If you can get a kitted project with all the needed silk is a better deal. But all cross stitch threads are beautiful!

    I wanted to comment that I am a member of the FQS Floss Frenzy monthly club for Weeks Dye Works floss & the ones I have been receiving do not have a second hole in the paper tag to put floss on, BUT I had to order some for a pattern I started a couple of weeks ago & they do have a second hole(to the side of the main hole)
    Maybe the ones you have are older & they listened to the customers & added that feature in on newer skeins. I really like that feature.
    Thanks for these informative videos-I am really enjoying learning more about my favorite hobby.

    Very informative thank you! I have found some of the shredding happens more as I stitch on higher count Aida. I like and use 20 count Aida so use a shorter length floss. Makes sense as it’s tighter weave

  • @sheriking4041
    @sheriking4041 ปีที่แล้ว

    From what I have seen, the people who stitch with silk stitch on higher count fabrics with one strand of thread. So a 40 count or higher fabric uses less thread because the image will be smaller and rather than 2 strands they are only using 1 strand. The 8 strands so a lot farther. Another thing I have heard is that if you choose to stitch with silk thread use a shorter length because the thread tends to fray when it’s too long.

      Pumpkin Alphabet by Little House Needleworks
      Gathering Stitches by Luminous Fiber Arts
      Also, if you type Belle Soie in the search bar, some patterns will come up if you scroll all the way to the end of the flosses.

    Thank you Kimberly! This informational series has been wonderful and will be a great resource for novice and experienced stitchers alike. As I watched I was stitching “Gathering Berries” by Luminous Fiber Arts and using NPI silk from FQS. My recommendation to stitchers who want to try silk for the 1st time is to find a smaller, monochromatic project. You only have to buy 1 or 2 skeins of floss and you will be able to quickly and easily determine if you enjoy stitching with that floss without investing a lot of $$$. Happy stitching to everyone! 🧵 🪡🧵
