      Looking forward to it so much, this is my favorite live action movie of all time, going to therapy myself i know how hard it is to feel trust around another person, but my current therapist always makes me feel comfortable, he’s like a real life Sean

      I absolutely love that little subtle addition you made to this video at 7:04 (shoutout to Tom & Jerry fans). Initially when I first saw your video, that duo immediately popped into my mind the moment you said "For 2, he's got a bigger issue right now, which is getting Tom & Jerry out of the room right now."
      A very subtle change that's much appreciated... at least by me.

      Then I should clarify it doesn't have to always be that way. We're not doomed to it. Self awareness and conscious intention can change unconscious tendencies. We just have to start listening out for a different narrative

    What I thought when I watched the scene was that Will was always going to escalate until he got a satisfactory reaction from Sean. It's what he did in the previous two therapists' offices: get himself thrown out of therapy so that he can claim it wasn't /his/ fault that no therapist would see him.
    Will was deliberately trying to provoke Sean, over, and over, to get him to reject him, to prove to Will that he was right about himself, that he was this unlovable bastard that everyone would always end up rejecting. So he led with the worst of himself, using his intelligence to find holes in Sean and pry them open. And, in the end, he got exactly what he was trying to do, which doesn't show so much a problem with Sean's technique as just how good Will was at reading people.
    ...And then Sean went and proved Will wrong anyway, by not turning away from him. By not rejecting him. By basically saying that yes, you're a flawed human being, but I'm going to be here for you regardless, which is something that Will hasn't had in an authority figure before.
    And while, in a real therapy session, I think that Sean could have made the same point -- that Will had crossed the line he was trying so desperately to cross -- without resorting to violence, I don't think you could have shown that violation (and hence, the full weight of Sean being willing to overlook it and continue to see Will) as powerfully in a film without Robin grabbing Matt's throat.

    • @dianawitty9628
      @dianawitty9628 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He grabbed him by the throat to get him to really shut up and listen, all the while giving him exactly what he sought, the violence…
      The violence is exactly how he ended up there in the first, you hit a cop, you’re going down…I don’t care how cute or smart you are…this is the end of the line for most ppl

    13:00 I felt Sean was picking up the topic Will brought up (books) while trying to take the lead (asking questions). Will resists this, but keeps talking about books asking questions himself and not answering many. So yeah, it's a dominance game. Who's the smartest and who leads the discussion?

    I really enjoyed hearing this one again. :) Normally a scene like that, where Sean grabs Will, is so unbelievable compared to what you'd expect in reality that it'd take me out of the moment and the spell of the movie would be broken for me, but with this movie that didn't happen. I think it's because that moment tells us about both characters; it's where we first learn something needs healing in Sean, too. I didn't know where the movie would go from that point, but I wanted to find out. Instead of tuning out, I was hooked. It's quite a scene. Thanks for exploring it!

    theres a bunch of stuff, i think, across a few of your videos about this movie that have to do with them showing shawn as a therapist who is good, but also dealing with the emotions of his relationship with the professor and with his own hurts about his wife passing. and i think that would be the reasons that shawn is sensitive or trips up in some of the ways that the movie shows. like where you say, im not sure why shawn does this, i think this is a perfect explaination. and part of why shawn is so comfortable for Will in the end, i think, is because he experiences the ways in which shawn has short comings and weaknesses and a colorful life.

    But Sean does tell him he will end him and he does in a loving caring way…by letting him see himself and others…how to become curious…instead of shutting down and lying to others about your feeling and yourself to keep yourself safe from another deep connection with the person you can count on, but are confused by….yourself…the answers always lie beyond yourself, in realm of imagination and exploration….once you put down your barriers, maintain strong boundaries and realize only you can hurt yourself deeply anymore…but even that’s scary…and requires courage and curiosity!?!?!!!!!😊😮😂❤🎉

    Keeping in mind that this is fiction, this is not a real session, these are not a real patient and a real therapist, that they are actors -- your commentary has less to do with counseling and more to do with scriptwriting and stage direction. That said, the bit about weightlifting was probably built into the scene so that the audience would know that Sean is a powerful man, probably much stronger than Will, so that when Sean throttles Will, there is no doubt that Will is frightened (and impressed) by it.
