- Discover the rich history of Lincolnshire, exploring its hidden gems and forgotten stories. This video takes you on five walks through ruins, charred remains and stubborn (and stubby) survivors from the county’s fascinating past.
Highlights:
• Tupholme Abbey: Discover the remnants of a Premonstratensian abbey, from its founding in the 12th century to its transformation into a Tudor mansion and eventual decline.
• Goltho Church: Visit the ruins of this historic church, once part of a thriving Saxon village, it met with tragedy just over ten years ago.
• Bardney Abbey: A glimpse into the history of King Oswald, Viking raiders, neglectful monks, dismembered saints and the Tudor monarch who devastated this once-powerful religious site.
• Kirkstead Abbey: See what’s left of this once a grand Cistercian monastery and read about the tragic events that led to its destruction.
• St. Leonard's Church: A medieval time capsule we explore on the outside, and make a vow to come back to see inside too!

This is a little different to my usual videos, I really hope you like it, let me know 😊
❤ oh yes I like your video of gone times . Thank you
Great! I like a bit of history but I do tend to forget it 😕
It's nearly 45 years ago that I walked from Bamburgh to Bardney Abbey enjoying the history along the way
Wow, that's a long walk, how long did it take?
@@HappyTrundlerWalks I was five weeks on my walk with the reason to hear very much from viking history in Britain . It was very good walking !!!❤
absolutely captivating. ❤❤❤❤❤ astoundingly beautiful ruins with utterly heartbreaking histories. and those long shadows...surely a metaphor for the persistence of the faith.
I'm glad my videos are inspiring you 😁
A fantastic walk! Love all the historical details and so sad that so many things have been lost.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I learnt a lot researching it. 😊
I found this really interesting. Great drone footage. Thanks for sharing. Gav
Hoorah, glad you liked it. I'm getting the hang of the drone, but it does a awful lot on autopilot 😁
@ I managed to get a second hand drone a few months back from a good friend. Its the mavic mini one but in perfect condition. I’ve been getting used to that. Great fun learning about it.
Yeah, I'm using the mini 4K, second hand also, I can't believe what good quality it is 😀
Walk through very ancient places linked to the history of the Vikings and also that of Henry VIII (the English Bluebeard).
Many monks were killed by the Vikings and also on the orders of the king and Cromwell!!
Interesting and the views taken by the drone even more interesting!!.
THANKS 😀😀😀😀😀
Thanks for the comments, I can't believe how much killing there was and I really want to see what under the grass in Bardney Abbey
@@HappyTrundlerWalks The figures you give for Bardney Abbey are certainly true;
I read different books and watched the Vikings series, in particular.
The monks were savagely killed and there must be many bones under this beautiful grass.
You should not come there on Halloween night!!.
Sincerely 🐞🐞🐞🐞
😳 but I did go to St Leonards on Halloween once 😳
@@HappyTrundlerWalks And???? nothing or weird sensations.
at the Petit Trianon in Versailles, there are ghosts of the past
Good weekend and thank you;🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞
@francoisevitard5272 Maybe that story is for another time, oooh, mysterious.
St Leonard's is beautiful, the distance between that and the rest of the ruins give you a good idea of the large scale of the Abbey.
Yeah, it was just outside the abbey but as it was seen as a church it survived the destruction.
😎
😁
