The British tax payer paid off the slavers, freeing a huge number of slaves. A debt that only just got settled in around 2015 (roughly). The problem was the money went to businesses, slavers and elite families (the Lords of the time) who had an interest. They deserved jail, but was given a fortune. Today, reparations should be paid by any family or business in any nation who profited from the slave trade. From the British Royal family to the King of Benin. There are many businesses still in operation that earned a fortune. As to what Dave mentioned, equality is a birth right that has been stolen by the elite. Will it change? I hope so, but we must stop electing clowns to shut down the circus.
