Such an informative video with these play breakdowns. I do not have that type of understanding of the game, but now I can get a clearer picture as to why the Lions have an amazing offense. With that said I hope he doesn't get poached! I've been praying for the Lions to actually have a solid offense for so long. 1 season isn't enough!

Please, I know you’re not a lion fan but I really enjoy your content and I look forward to following you all season long. I hope you continue to break down Ben Johnson’s genius offense, but he’s only being able to do it in my opinion because our office of line is significantly underrated but I love the way you break it down and show us how diabolical he really is and how he’s fooling the defense play after play

    Great analysis by the way.
No one is talking about this, but if the Lions pick up O'Cyrus Torrence in the 1st Round of the Draft, we could have the best offensive line in the NFL for the next 3 to 4 years. He is the one player in the draft that will make the most immediate impact. He is the perfect fit.

    • @ThinkingFootball
      @ThinkingFootball  ปีที่แล้ว +2

You could call anything and he could run it.
But what really makes him special is those option routes - Johnson trusts him to read the coverage and then pick the correct route to beat it. Next level stuff.

  • @jppagetoo
    @jppagetoo ปีที่แล้ว

Goff makes up for a lack of deep throw ability by being able to quickly read and go to 2nd and 3rd options on the plays. He may be one of the best in the league at that skill. It adds one more dimension that makes these play calls work. You can call great plays, but they have to have the people who can get it done. The Lions are skilled, make no mistakes about that.

      Harbaugh - 0
      McDermott - 6
      Wilks - 2
      Eberflus - 4
      Z. Taylor - 1

      McCarthy - 6
      Hackett - 8
      MCDC - 0
      LaFleur - 2
      L. Smith - 4
      Saturday - 0
      Pederson - 3
      Reid - 0
      McDaniels - 14
      Staley - 1
      McVay - 3
      McDaniel - 1
      KOC - 3
      Belichick - 9
      Allen - 8
      Daboll - 8
      Saleh - 4
      Sirianni - 3
      Tomlin - 1
      Shanahan - 9
      Carroll - 5
      Bowles - 5.5
      Vrabel - 1
      Rivera - 6
Historically, it hasn't really meant anything to teams.

    • @ThinkingFootball

Goff has been much more clinical at getting through his reads and it's a credit to him for improving there and the coaching staff for facilitating the environment for him to do so (protection, play design, route progression)
There was a whole 3rd section about Goffs improvements and him going through his reads - but it got cut for time.
Still not perfect, but a fantastic improvement from his younger years

Shiela has to get check book out, give both coordinators a sweet 3 year deal and yes make ben johnson assistant head coach...after 3 years and 2 superbowls our coordinators can ask their price...not sure why Ben johnson would want to leave with only one year of experience, "a nice 3 year contract" for all kinds of head coach pressure...also find it hard to believe a team would make him head coach with only one year of coordinator experience...but after making history in Detroit...for sure !

Update: Johnson is staying! 01/18/23.. via Cowhurd.
Love the breakdown! They were lethal.. I wonder what offensive pieces they look for in the draft and free agency.. would love it if they can get Jamaal back.. he’s a hammer on the field and a great leader.. they need another stud o-lineman-guard.. but I think they’ll seek immediate contributors on defense first… but the way Holmes and his team have been drafting.. I have, for the first time in my life as a lions fan, 100% confidence. They’ve built a great foundation where players want to play… not retire early or demand trades from.

According to the most plugged in people in local Detroit sports media who do have connections with Allen Park Ben Johnson isn't going anywhere after this year.
He will take interviews for preparation/experience but will stay on to learn what it is to be a head coach under Dan the way Sean Payton groomed Dan in New Orleans. It should be kept in mind that this is Ben Johnson's first year as a coordinator.
The culture and coaching system in Detroit was built by Dan with the idea of attracting the brightest minds in football by being a machine that teaches and prepares them for future success elsewhere as either position to coordinator or coordinator to head coach.

We gotta strike while the iron's got and we got him calling plays, cause he easily could've been a HC this coming year. Excellent breakdown. Sewell could be the NFLs version of an NBA stretch 4.

As a lifelong Packers fan, I feel like my kneecaps were bitten off this season, and next season is going to feature the Lions absolutely beating the shit out of the NFC. Playing the Lions felt like the football equivalent of trying to fight Wolverine.

5:18 i really like whats said here (considering what happened in January) as it describes what they did and why lions fans arent mad at it unlike 95% of the league

3:55 Swift doesn't get the first down because too often he tries to get cute with his plays instead of taking the yardage. Sometimes it works out and others it just makes him look bad.

The Lion# has all of the ingredients to go to the Super Bowl next year. I am nervous about the Ford family who are the owners doing something stupid by trading or letting a free agent go in order too save them money

The way Goff scans the field...its as if its all 1 motion and as soon as he gets to the open wr boom the balls out immediately.

Pennel Swell as a reciever? Was this before or after they traded away Hockenson?
