That boiler is a thing of beauty! All of those valves, levers, tubes, and gauges, as well as the swinging door on the firebox are totally awesome! Love the various oil cans on the shelf as well. Great video! 😊
One of the best cab rides I have seen in my life. I love these engines so this video makes me feel like the cab rider. I did it in my country including a brief driving. Thank you for sharing and what a good oportunity!!
Nevada Northern 81 is a iconic operating steam locomotive and I would like to come back to the Nevada Northern to visit this steam engine in operating condition. The Cab Ride on this locomotive was great. I would hope to do that on a steam locomotive sometime in the future.
Great video on activity in the cab. I rode in the cab like you one week ago. Clearly you had the opportunity to drive the engine soon after it was refurbished. Everything looks new and clean. The floor wood is new and the paint looks new. After one year of service, old 81 is much more sooty and mature. Had the same fireman.
Little and often firing works quite well. The color of the smoke is the indicator is the indicator of when to fire. The number of scoops depends on the work that the locomotive is doing.

“more steam captain!” made me giggle
Stellar! We just did a cab ride/video in #93. This was the recommended video to accompany ours!
The shovel (I won't call it a scoop) the fireman is using to fire the engine is very small. It's no wonder that he has to do so much work!
These guys are working 💪
Looks like a lot of timing between crew. Gnarly.
Total gratitude to filmer too.

Definitely time for a beer when that job is completed.
It's very nice to see this job.

Had the opportunity to run #93 about 2 1/2 years as part a bucket list camping trip...spectacular experience
3:28 got the shovel stuck in the Firebox door
Thank you for uploading this. Actually the reason why I will drive a few hours from Vegas on my next trip just to get this experience.
the best part of railroading is when you get to have fun you can hear the fireman yell "more steam captain!" and its hilarious

🇧🇷 BRASIL, 13/06/2023. Com 67 anos tive o privilégio de pegar " traseira " em maria-fumaça e êsse vídeo me fêz viajar com vocês. 👍👏
love it! we have a wood burner and oil burner -up here - awesome that the landscape resembles the Sumpter Valley isn't it? :) Merry Christmas!
E o acionamento e som da buzina é chique kkk
The sounds so amazing can I use android 81 for an audio recording for my channel
why is the engineer pulling the whistle string like a rope in 81’s cab
Dillion, were you there for the 35th Anniversary Iron Horse Symposium? Did a cab ride myself 3 weeks ago on the 81.
I’ve always wanted to do that. Biggest steamer I’ve run is a 15” gauge Crown.
Oh my God ! Coitado desse carvoeiro! Cansa de abastecer essa caldeira!
