That takes me back to when I was aged about 8 or 9, going with granddad to pick up his wages and then visiting the canteen. We had to look out for shunting steam engines as we crossed the tracks. And the pork pies were as big as my head. Happy memories.

Just stumbled on this, most enjoyable and nostalgic look back on industrial heritage.

Unusual “new” mineral wagon at 6.00 minutes, just one offset door on the side facing the camera. Great demonstration of gravity feed thro the screens.

Paul Bartlett's site says that just under 950 of these wagons were re-bodied with this single door, at Shildon from 1978.

Wonderful footage! Looks like a weathering masterclass, love the new MDO with three heavily weathered ones. The 25 looks a bit over airbrushed with "framedirt" though.

The weathering on the saddle tank is pretty amateurish, too. But, as you say, nice job on the coal wagons, and nice job on the colliery itself, too. 🤣

Any idea what the name on the saddle tank was?

It was HORNET Peckett works number 1935 built in 1937

@@ncbgricer3001 many thanks for that. I remember a saddle tank in the same area called Frances Valerie. It was either Bersham or Ruabon around 1960

@@tanagerbirderFRANCES VALERIE was a larger 'Austerity' type 0-6-0ST at Hafod Colliery. It was supplied new by Hunslet in 1950 initially to Llay Main Colliery, but moved to Hafod in February 1951. It was scrapped at Hafod after the colliery closed in 1968.

@@ncbgricer3001 many thanks for that I wondered where I had seen it. There was a works loco at Brymbo Steel which might have been called Henry. I loved those old works locos and hope some were saved

@@tanagerbirder The loco at Brymbo Steelworks was actually called SIR HENRY. The loco at Bersham, HORNET, has been preserved and its currently at the Ribble Steam railway, Preston

The film was made on two occasions, the first part with the steam loco in 1977 and the second part after the steam loco had been replaced by the diesel loco in 1980.
