    What's funny is I hate axes, but last night when I made this live I was watching "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" and he makes axes look cool.

    Bottom Line Up Front, Hey That is a Great and Affordable, and Packable set! If the axe came with decent sheath, even better. They just need to be sharpened and maintained like all Edged Tools. They are not fancy, but I'd be grateful to have them in my corner, especially if I had to move out with my Grab & Go Kit !
    Will and you discussed possible modifications to the knife, but neglected to discuss simple improvements that could be done to the Axe....despite the oversight I still enjoyed video, Thanks Again.

    The Cold Steel Trailboss is a more traditional axe with decent quality steel at a value price. Will might like it a little more, the handle is angled and shaped better. It's still an entry-level axe, less than $30.

    You don't find the "Bounciest" trees everytime, it's your experience with axes that is very little, that makes the axe bounce. Woods don't come made from hard rubber to be bouncy you know.. Reprofile your axeheads, watch a couple of Ben Scott's videos, and try to listen what he says, but also copy what he does when he is using axes. Then, start using them as much as you can, to reach a level where you can use them and use them safely.

    Really like when a channel does a follow up vid. It's really helpful for obvious reasons. I can't afford to throw away money on something that seems good but doesn't 'really stand up after the initial use. Thanks for another helpful vid.

    What "crafts" is Will talking about doing with an axe when he has a knife available?

  • @stevanoutdoor

    Coatings are for people who have better and nicer things to do in the bush than to polish and take care of their knife. For hunters and soldiers maybe. Most of all for people who forget to choose a stainless knife for food prep :)
    I do agree with the wedge part. For me a reason not to have the SRK and prefer the Recon Tanto.

    • @preparedmind101
      @preparedmind101  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd probably use the puuko. But as I CLEARLY said, the qualifier is "stuff I have" and I gave that to a friend. The SRK is easier to get too. They are also very different so it's going to depend on personal preference.

      Thanks for the reply. Shipping from Finland to Canada takes 10 days (I've order tons of stuff from Varusteleka) whereas Amazon is 2-3days so yes easier to get for sure. Again thanks for the reply.

    I had a guy tell me axes are more useful than big knives and machetes. Supported his argument with a video of two guys on a snow covered mountain doing weird (not sexual) things with axes. Sure wish those axe lovers would come to South Alabama and try to hack through a thicket and brambles, or kill a Cottonmouth, with an axe... :)

    • @CristianoNogueiraBushcraft
      @CristianoNogueiraBushcraft 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Chris Gilliam I would also like to see those axe lovers coming to semi-arid Northeast Brazil and trying to make a trail through our thorn bushes with an axe.

    • @spider5001
      @spider5001 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chris Gilliam I live in the marsh/swamp in south/eastern US. I machete for me too. Only really need fire to look at or cook. It doesn’t get cold enough. Sometimes I like to bring a Fiskars X7 along also though

      @ChrisGilliamOffGrid 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      spider5001 Yep. If you ever watch any of my beaver trapping vids you'll see a big RTAK on my side. Cut blocking for traps, clears brambles, kills beavers, slices snakes in half. Extremely useful. 😉😎

    • @preparedmind101
      @preparedmind101  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like the Cold Steel Pipe Hawk and the CRKT Chogan Woods tomahawk. And as much as it pains me to say it, the SCAXE2 is still good if you have a Worksharp to maintain it. Something with a hammer poll does come in handy. But chopping wood? I can blow through it in have the time with a JX5.
