    Thanks everybody for the kind words! Nice seeing the great shots that the Koi Talk guys got of it, it’s been a lot of hard work to get it this far but nice to step back and appreciate how far it’s all come! I’ve already re-done the waterfall and added another huge moving bed with 700litres of media since the vid was shot so it keeps evolving and improving

    Wow adam what a pond. Nice to see something more natural if that makes any sense. It fits the size of your garden. As you said it was already there. Hats off doing your homework on keeping koi. Not an easy hobby. You've done an amazing job. Some quality fish in there.

    So relaxing, watching fish swim around a pond. We had a much smaller pond and waterfall at my childhood home, I loved it. Always looking for houses to rent which have ponds.

    Try adding a pool at the lowest end just before the waterfall spillway flows over into the pond with a bottom drain so you can clean the waterfall full length. This way the sludge cannot go back into the pond. The pool needs to hold enough water for you to wash down the entire spillway. I manage a pond like this and the filtering capacity of a long waterfall/creek is best not underestimated. Incredible set up. Thank you for sharing your koi with us.

    To keep the power costs down, build a solar water heater. Also, when the liner needs changing, try a clay bottom.

    Would also using natural filtration help by running water through a planted area ? I found planting a Momotaro Bakki with plants wiped out green water on a small pond when my uv popped I didn’t replace it and the plants kept the water clear you could build a huge natural filter in your garden

    • @KoiTalkMagazine
      @KoiTalkMagazine  ปีที่แล้ว

      It would help but flow rates through the UV are essential. Many people put water through them too quickly.

    I use 110mm airlifts, at about 20lpm air each means you'll get a great rate through. My two airlifts + bottom drain air and bio comes out at 80lpm which is 58W. I have no water pumps.

    • @webber498

      It is approximately 18m long x 12m wide at the widest parts of the oval shape. It is about 1.7m at its deepest part. I had to use the salt concentration method to accurately measure the volume for treatments etc as it was hard to calculate due to shape 👍👍

    I would suggest improving the habitat for the fish by perhaps adding a dead tree and some rather large boulders. Swimming their entire lives in circles makes fish miserable. They need enrichment. It's important to realize that fish a living, breathing, thinking, feeling Beings no different than Humans. If you want them to breed, then adding small pebbles or sand will be necessary.
