My daughter is a 50 year old childless cat lady. She is also an amazing high school guidance counselor, with hundreds of kids. She has picked kids up in the morning for school because parents can’t get them there. She has driven them to the hospital when they were sick. She has answered their texts in the middle of the of the night. She has also attended their weddings and met their children years later. She stays in touch with many and gets letters of thanks, often years later. She is also a wonderful daughter, sister and aunt. Mentally deranged??? OMG. I have a hereditary illness that runs strongly in my family. If I'd had children, each child would have had a 60% chance of inheriting it from me. I wanted children very much, but I could not impose this suffering on another generation.

They worked in the factories, lived in boarding houses, were financially independent and were quite happy. Why? Facts: 1 out of 3 women died in childbirth. There was no birth control. You could not divorce an abusive husband. If you talked back to your husband, he could declare you a shrew and you were punished. All your property belonged to your husband. All your earnings belonged to your husband. All childcare and housework fell on the woman. So singlehood even among women was not unusual.

I chose not to have children because the timing never synched up where I was in my career or my relationships. I wasn't going to become a father at a time I couldn't devote myself to it. I am a mother. But my identity is a whole lot more than being a mother. Just like Lindsey, I would like to go back to school to enrich my life, especially now that my kids are grown. So what is he saying? A woman's life is over once her kids are out of her nest? Is a woman's life about taking care of everyone else but herself? Pathetic.
I think his logic is that even once your kids move out, you still want to make sure that their future is secured, because you love them. It makes sense, but it's completely divorced with reality. Republicans (who mostly have children) do not care about the future as we can all see looking at their agenda. And we can actually argue back that billionaires don't care about the future of average Americans, because if something goes wrong, they can throw money at it, which is something an average American can't do. Billionaires are actually the main source of misery, because they have such vast influence on politics and because they mainly care about themselves.

They worked in the factories, lived in boarding houses, were financially independent and were quite happy. Why? Facts: 1 out of 3 women died in childbirth. There was no birth control. You could not divorce an abusive husband. If you talked back to your husband, he could declare you a shrew and you were punished. All your property belonged to your husband. All your earnings belonged to your husband. All childcare and housework fell on the woman. So singlehood even among women was not unusual.

As a childfree woman,I’ve never had to ask any Moms why they regret having kids for them to tell me. They offer that up when I tell them I’m childfree. For insight, I would’ve gone crazy if I had kids. It’s like telling someone that has no desire to be a train conductor that they should be one. My twin sister tried too but it never happened due to the county closing the program. Just wasn't meant to be. But I finally bought my daughter home at 2 yrs old. 18 pounds. I'm not married, but when I was, I did not have children. However, I know the psychology of conservatives, and what JD is "TRYING" to emphasize, is his strong believe in the family structure. Conservatives rely mainly on the family unit, as a form of security, rather than the government. Vance is for children but not for helping the families. Senate Republicans on Thursday blocked legislation that would have expanded the child tax credit, a key tax break for millions of families.
And I would think that if someone like him wanted to encourage people to have more children then they would give tax breaks to those who have them. Or some other financial incentive. I chose not to have children because the timing never synched up where I was in my career or my relationships. I wasn't going to become a father at a time I couldn't devote myself to it. As someone who was raised in a very abusive home and farm I can safely say that ‘the father,’ in our home was the most psychotic and irrational person I’ve ever known. He had absolutely NO business being a father or running a farm where we were in a severe enforced labor situation. I thank god every day for having chose to not have children and taking the risk of scarring them either emotionally or physically, as I was. I saw things that no one should see or be exposed to. Those physical and mental scars never go away, ever. I also think that people who choose to not add to our planet’s overpopulation or put additional strains on our government systems should be applauded, not demonized by someone as dodgy as J.D, or whatever name he has chosen to use this week. And I’m tired of people thinking that ‘the act of reproduction’ is some divine gift, believe me, it’s not. It doesn’t take intelligence to make babies and it seems that the majority of the breeders out there have absolutely no business having children.
