I believe you are right. The people who live in the Caucasus mountain area in Europe have been studied for decades for their longevity. They grow their own food as much as possible, work their gardens even in old age, make fresh yogurt from the milk from their animals, and they don’t have the concept of retirement like western nations do. They always keep busy, it’s good for health, flexibility and their mind, their food is raised naturally and they feast on the harvest.

Mine was 96 and same thing. She ate a varied diet including plenty of meat but very little processed foods or junk food. She was physically active working on her property through her 70s. She had a market garden for much of her life and ate a lot out of it. She canned and preserved her own foods too. Slowed down in her 80s but was still taking care of her home and making meals at 90. She needed help only the last couple of years but stayed in her home and died there which was her wish. My grandfather worked driving a truck until he was absolutely forced to retire at 75. He worked around their property in addition. I remember him lifting those small rectangle hay bales out of a truck when he must have been 80. He lived to 92. They both pretty much avoided doctors unless medical emergency or really necessary. They also avoided medications, even otc. I remember my grandmother saying taking too much of that stuff cant be good for you, did you read the insert? She had. They used something called BenGay which was a topical cream often though for various aches and pains. My grandmother did get cataract surgery too.

@@elizaj4431 "They both pretty much avoided doctors unless medical emergency or really necessary. They also avoided medications ..." That's a big key to it. Mum was the same, worked hard, ate simply, enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She was prescribed her first medication at 96, a vitamin B12 supplement, and died two years ago aged 102. She never complained and she expected us children would be robust as well - and so we are!

So many otherwise honest doctors have to walk an insurance line to keep getting paid. Mine finally stopped arguing with me. He's an old family doctor who fell in line with the industry that had totally corrupted itself since his education. Now I'm a better judge of which treatments are most rational. Until I get back on top of diet and exercise at my age, a bp med makes some sense. Home stress is always part of it too.

We’ve lost 75 pounds each, gotten off cholesterol, diabetic medication, and some blood pressure meds. I’m not taking any more than I have to, and we have cut out 10 - 15 meals a week through fasting. @@adelarsen9776 we’re not eating carbs, except through veggies. We on occasion have steel cut oats, sweet potatoes, or brown rice. We eat organic meat, eggs, veggies. I make our full fat yogurt, all our salad dressing, use only coconut or avocado oil (in fact I’ve only ever used olive or avocado oil), make my own mayo, granola, butter, can, preserve, grown our veggies, and have started making our cottage cheese. I’ve made my own bread, which we’ve given up, but have ALWAYS cooked from “scratch”. I just didn’t put this all in my post as I didn’t want it to be a “book”. We don’t ever eat after 7:30 at night, and try to eat only in daylight hours. We work out 3x a week with weights, and are on our treadmill every day for at least 30 minutes. For me, when I got covid (or whatever it was) in late 2021, I suffered from the systemic inflammatory response (cytokine storm?). Our community’s “healthcare” clinic REFUSED to see me because I was “sick” and refused to prescribe anything over the phone (northern NH). It wasn’t until I was circling the drain (after weeks of suffering) that I finally found someone to prescribe me prednisone. After 24 hours I was already 75% improved. “Healthcare” facilities have k i l l e d many people.

OMG, I have nearly the exact same story. Suffered from a horrific sinus infection remnant from Omicron, sick for six long weeks, two rounds of antibiotics did nothing. Went to an urgent care facility after becoming dismayed by my doctor's casual indifference. The nurse practitioner I saw took me seriously, did three tests on me and sent me home when the tests were negative. She then called me at home at night and said she was writing me a prescription for prednisone, that she thought it would help. Within a day, I began to feel much better. I left her a card with a handwritten note thanking her. Get teary eyed thinking about it still.

You have been the voice of sense and reason since the pandemic and beyond.
My parents lived to the ripe ages of 98 and 99. My mother was diagnosed with vasculsr dementia when she was 93, and my dad had prostate cancer at 96. At 97, his doctor deemed him fit enough to have a pacemaker and he still insisted on looking after my mum for his last two years. They ate fresh cooked food, no takeaways or ready meals, and took vitamin c, d and garlic every day. Echinacea and ginger for a cold. They really only took any prescribed medication in the last five years of their lives and a change in GP saw my dads list reduced when the GP questioned the sense of prescribing statins to a man of his great age. They both lived active healthy lives largely without any medical intervention

I never understood how incredible antibiotics were until I started rescuing kittens. The strays in my neighborhood carry a bacterial infection that comes off as a very nasty cold. They'll have it for literally months and may even go blind (it heavily impacts the eyes). This condition that would take 9 months for a cat to heal on its own takes only 4 weeks of antibiotics. Symptoms are gone in just a few days. Antibiotics have benefited humans, agriculture, and pets in a way that is hard to comprehend its full scope.

I figured that out when my Dad did a short stay at one. Maintaining low blood pressure makes them very sleepy. I know that I have a hard time functioning with readings 120/80 or lower. I get very tired and dizzy on blood pressure meds. The other side effect of skin rashes and the constant scratching drove me nuts. My problems cleared up within two weeks of stopping these cold turkey. I feel fine at 140/90. Sometimes my readings are below the 120/80 target without the meds. I don't tell them they never listen. Cholesterol meds cause pain and confusion. Doctor goes by chart readings not by what patient says. I used to see a heart doctor that had retired. Every visit blood pressure was 160/90 or higher. He never listened to me. A visit would lead to a medication increase. I still have problems but at least I have my mind .

Preparing for a home birth (1980) I made the horrible mistake of taking cascara sagrada for constipation, on advice from a Herbal expert. My waters broke with meconium staining (the baby pooped). This meant going to the hospital ASAP and induced labor ending in an emergency caesarean where the pain killer failed. My beautiful daughter was fine but because of the danger of peritonitis I had to take the most powerful antibiotic for a week.
Yes, we are over medicated and yes, antibiotics can save lives.....but herbs are also to be used very carefully. Because of other people having bad experiences with cascara sagrada the herb soon began having warnings on the labels.

I agree with everything you have said, and the many other medications not mentioned that have also proven either life-saving or prevented pain or the onset of a disease or illness. However in taking even the drugs you mentioned, some caution and discernment is occasionally needed. As an example, antibiotics can be life savers, and I've taken quite a few in my lifetime, but after finishing a regime of antibiotics, be it for a few days, or many weeks, it's now been recommended more and more to start taking Probiotics, or Probiotic-containing foods, such as fermented foods like yogurt, kefir (both plain without sugars or sweeteners), Kim Chee or Sauerkraut. This helps restore those 'good bugs' in your microbiome like those that help you digest food that also may have been killed-off along with the 'bad bugs' in your system. I take two different medications for High Blood Pressure, though I'm not sure if they are Beta Blockers or something else, but hopefully, through diet & exercise, I will be able to cut down or even stop (with doctor's permission) taking these drugs. Some drugs are meant to be taken for a lifetime, but some could and even should be eventually 'weaned off of' IF a healthier lifestyle can be used instead. Lastly, anti-inflammatories are a God-Send for those in constant or moderate pain. I take a baby aspirin everyday, more for the blood-thinning effect than for pain, but when I was younger and prone to fairly bad migraines, I could only get relief with full-strength aspirin or combos like Excedrin, which also have Acetaminophen and Caffeine. However these can be abused, and some like over-the-counter Tylenol, can actually harm the liver if taken in excess. Older people, with more aches & pains, are more likely to become addicted to pain relievers and anti-inflammatories. Sometimes there is no other alternative, but sometimes therapies like Physical Therapy; Hot, Cold and Light Therapy; and even mind-controlling meditations can also aleve pain.
