Merry Christmas to you, and the family, Ben.
Thank you for all you do to keep us entertained, and even teach us some stuff.
Looking forward to another year with you.

Guides can help a lot, but I think doing it on your own teaches you in a different kind of way that is more valuable.

Fun watching y’all learn and get excited about it. Redfish hunting will get you going.

Nice video. What type of line are you using? Intermediate sinking?

Is this "fish by committee"? I miss fishing with my buddies that would "coach" me while I am landing a fish. Those were good days. Merry Christmas Ben.

Beer, warmth fried chicken and fishing. Must have sucked. My son went fly fishing yesterday at a local stocked river. He said he loves going to Connetquot State Park when there’s snow on the ground. It was 26 degrees. We suck at fly fishing too so we go in the winter to hopefully suck a little less when we go up to Roscoe in the spring and summer. Merry Christmas all.

…I don’t know! Just because it’s in the net doesn’t always mean ya’ landed it.
On two separate occasions, separated by full seasons, I netted big pike into the boat, only to watch the fish grab the gunnel with its caudal fun, and spit the fly as it vaulted out of the boat.
On both occasions I was winding up to pump my fist in the air, and the first syllables of an enthusiastic “booo-yha” were out of my mouth.
The second time I just threw my rod in the water, and stomped about the canoe like a brat, before wading after it.

If you don't have a spot do you just cruise shorelines or backs of coves and blind cast sometimes? And does that work? Bc i have a kayak that I can't stand up in and I can't sight fish

Blind casting definitely works. It helps to know an area where fish concentrate (shell beds, islands of turtle grass in sand, little channels and cuts, points). But you can also see the “v” wakes left by cruising fish (often moving down the grass lines or in the backs of bays) or tailing fish while sitting in a kayak. I knew a guy in Fla who paddled slowly through submerged fishy grass just casting into potholes never further than a boat length or two in front of him. Dude caught fish. Good luck.

You'll be able to get closer in a yak solo if you're quiet, also paddleboard?
You'll still be able to see fish from a yak, unless you have like a go fast sit underwater kayak and not a sit on top fishing kayak.
I have a like under $400 on sale kayak and I can see and can fish pretty effectively out of it.
