    Wow Carson, you guys sure do have a lot of equipment! Looks like fun ;) I was blown away when I saw in one of your replies that you guys farm almost 7000 acres, thus the need for lots of equipment! Thanks for all the effort you put into recording and editing the video for us, it turned out great! You look very comfortable in front of the camera. I have so many of your videos to catch up on that I haven't seen........ Stay safe, healthy and study hard!

    First time viewer, a Nice video showing us everything, I look forward to seeing more, I watch Larson Farms and some times Cole the Corn Star and others, I know nothing about farming other than what I have seen in these videos, it's interesting how every farm is run differently using kind of the same equipment but with totally different mods for different environments.
    What always fascinates me is how Farms wit such a high cost of everything can make any money to even survive and yet so many do, I have seen some of the prices of things ad=nf I'm like, holy cow batman... that's a huge price tag LOL
    Anyway, thanks for sharing, you did a really good job with this video and look forward to seeing more from you and your farm

    Before adding tracks to your planter take a look at the vf445/50r22.5 Firestone Destination. Can run 30% lower air pressure. Makes a big difference and it’s a lot cheaper then tracks

    • @6thGenFarmer
      @6thGenFarmer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I looked them up, they look great but at $865 a tire our free recalled tires will do for now👌

    • @michaelberardi4126
      @michaelberardi4126 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well a track system for a 60-90 series planter is 50k-70k

    • @6thGenFarmer
      @6thGenFarmer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, that's why we don't have tracks. Also they will probably not hold up to our road travel. I do understand that at around $900 a tire I may sound really cheap, but we tend to blow a few tires a year, so we have a local tire shop that got a bunch of tires back on recall and they give them to us very cheap, usually just a mounting fee.

    Ever thought of running some lsw's on the 8335r. I am up in EC MN and I know of one larger farm that put lsw's on one of their tractors a couple years ago, now I half or even more than half of their tractors run lsw tires. And some of their tractors before the lsw tires they ran duals front and rear but they weren't standard size they were much larger floatation tires and they still told me even that set up didn't compare to how well and good of luck they have experienced with the LSW tires. I met one guy who likes them better than tracks, he said the compaction was just as good if not better than what he had for tracks and he won't even run tracks anymore he runs lsw's on everything he's got from his tractors to his combines. He also said even if they were alittle worse than tracks the less maintenance they require make it 100% worth it he also thought they road better than some of his tracked machines. I have read in some cases to that they add top speed to the machine so much that alot of farmers were actually happy and impressed with the amount of speed they gained.

    • @6thGenFarmer
      @6thGenFarmer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think lsw's would be fantastic except we have row crops... We need either duals or tracks to fit between the rows.

    • @SKC640
      @SKC640 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@6thGenFarmer wow, I have no idea why but I completely spaced it on that lmao. Are you using any tractors in the fields when the crops are planted though?

    • @6thGenFarmer
      @6thGenFarmer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, we side dress anhydrous ammonia, row-crop cultivate, sometimes rotary-hoe, and sometimes you have to drive the planter through the field to get to a re-plant spot. Also corn stalks and bean stubble are incredibly hard on tires, so the duals help in the fall to run between the rows to not eat up the tires so bad

    • @6thGenFarmer
      @6thGenFarmer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As far as our reason for having lots of equipment, we have a fairly short season and a lot of things have to be done at once, plus we can be too wet to work 70-80% of our spring season. We can be planting corn, soybeans, side dressing and cultivating all at the same time. Also time is so critical we almost have to have a spare R to put on a planter if we have a serious problem. In the fall can have 2 auger wagons, a vertical till, v-ripper, 2 chisel plows working at the same time. Plus we can be working 40 miles apart making going back to hook and unhook unpractical. As far as tracks would love to have tracks on planter but they do not have tracks yet that will take the road miles we need to put on. Also planter has weight distribution cylinders taking much of the weight off of the main carrying wheels and spreading it out on the whole 60’.

    • @6thGenFarmer
      @6thGenFarmer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also the Rs really don’t cost us much. They are paid for and they are not depreciating at all because new as gone up so much. If anything if we had extra money to spend would buy another used 1 as we would have to trade them all +100k to buy 1 new 1
