- How to start a triumph bonneville / Tiger 750 T140 or TR7V
With the ignition switched off / Fuel Off
Free the clutch Plates - Clutch in - and kick over until plates free
Turn on Fuel Tap
Tickle Carb until fuel flows from the carb.
Prime Engine - slowly turn over kick-start 2-3 times to draw in mixture
Turn on the Ignition
Apply firm kick - and heh-presto - Vroom-Vroom - first time/every time
Do this while seated on the bike - don't do it on the center-stand - as this will knacker it in no time !!!!
This is funny; I've owned Triumphs for 45 years and have never had lessons on how to start one! Maybe it's far more complicated than I ever imagined!
I just bought a beautiful 73 TR7V, and even the original owner had been starting it from the kick stand. Thanks for this, very helpful!
I put the "no-drag" clutch discs in my '69 TR6R. What a pleasure.
that was great, back in the day we use to call that "breaking the clutch"
My brother infected me with Triumph fever when he bought a 79 t140 (bought it in 1980 in Montreal), I was too young to have a licence when he had his BSA. I always remember that Triumph though. Unfortunately he had an accident and the Triumph got turned into a pretzel. But he managed to find and restore a 1978 model (which he has to this day). My first bike was a Yamaha XS500 (parallel twin). On my wish list: a new Street Twin or T120.
best looking bike ever made
Love the sound of the Bonneville
Beautiful kickstarting action .love the pre kicks. Lovely bike. Enjoyable. Video
Thanks for this...I'm picking up a 1976 that I just bought sight unseen and will bring these notes when I go to start it. You don't mention the choke but I'm going to guess I put the choke on when I turn the gas on. I'll give it a try.
No need for all that , can start my tiger 2nd kick every time.😊
79 T140 E... Amal MK2's... Cold start... Ignition off, fuel on, plungers on, 1 primer kick...
Ignition on, 1 kick & starts every time.
Looks good. I will try that technique tomorrow.

Love those brit bikes.
Flip the choke lever, turn the taps on and jump on the kick starter.almost as easy as starting a moped.
I took the choke mechanism out of my T140V 5 years ago, after not using it for 25 years. All you need to do is tickle both carbs, and it will start first kick and pull cleanly from stone cold.
Awesome I wouldn't have any other....
Free the clutch, prime it with fuel and put it on a compression stroke to fire it with ignition!
Clean and tight! I would trade my Super Glide to own it!
Don't worry about it Steve, I have a passion for these English Motorcycles, I wish I owned them all but seeing I cant we must except the fact that people with no idea will ride them...
Thats his bike no one else would work out that combination lol!.
Either he weighs over 200 lbs or the engine must be wore out for him to be able to kick it over without using the center stand.
I’ve only ever used the kickstart. Never needed a centre stand to start it
ive had loads off triumphs never felt the need to free the plates????????wtf..
Lucky
@@bonkeydollocks1879 I start mine, pull the clutch in and give it a couple of blips. That does the trick.
@@rickconstant6106 I'll try it
Have had three trumpys, still love them but man couldn't be stuffed with starting them now, smelling like petrol from tickling all the time, now I just push a button on my harley! It's worked, goes like fu×k,handles like sh×t,and I love it!!
Not a clue
what a palava tickle the carbs and kick it
Not a clue you don't start a triumph like that , could grow a tree quicker
Read the owners manual that came with the bike. He pretty much followed the factory procedure spot on you arse.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!
Just get electric start.
If you were actually going somewhere you'd have booted Brit style and by the third kick it would be roaring. Watching al that nonsense was a waste of time.
