  • Join me as I rummage around my mom’s pattern stash, talk a trip down memory lane and pick out my favorites! Most of the patterns I show today are no longer in print, but may be available on Etsy or EBay. While I didn’t read off pattern numbers, if anything catches your eye, tell me the timestamp in the video in the comments and I’ll figure out which pattern number it is. Thanks and have a happy sewing weekend!

Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry! I just saw your comment. Thank you for watching. My great-grandmother chronicled so much-recipes, pictures and, I guess, patterns! It is really nice, though, to be able to continue to know her thoughts and have that information. So special!

Hi Lara! So fun watching you look thru the patterns and so neat you remembered the actual garments made from them!

There were several I forgot, until I saw the pattern. It was really fun to remember all the good times associated with the different patterns, too. Thanks so much for watching!

I love looking through my mom's patterns. I didn't show many of the newer ones, but even then they're around the 2000's. It's crazy to me that those are probably vintage, too! :D thanks so much for commenting and watching!

Oh, that was so much fun! I would totally want to see every pattern in there haha. Several of those patterns look like mid-eighties into the 90's, that shirt pattern you held up, too, and I sure wish those deep armholes would make a comeback. I have re-purchased several of the McCall's Liz Claiborne patterns that I used then to remake some of them. And that wedding dress pattern looks reeeeeally familiar 😲 I'm wondering if that isn't the one my mom used to make my wedding dress 1979.... we only made a few little changes to the pattern as written. And Woooop Woooop Alert! 2-HOUR PATTERN. 😆😆
I had a several past relatives that worked for the railroad, they mostly lived around Galesburg, Illinois.
Your 'project board' behind your head looks very busy! 😉 I probably have a similar amount - I call them Ideas, and they are heaped on the dining table atm. Sigh. Have a great holiday weekend!!

You are so right! I thought about that 2-hour pattern and I can tell by looking at the envelope that it is going to take a lot more than two hours to make that sucker up!! :D One thing I love about thrifting for patterns is that you do get some of those older patterns that are unique and different, but somehow back in style. I found a couple of the patterns that I recently thrifted in my mom's stash. I guess we have the same taste!! Thank you so much for chatting and watching. You're so awesome!

That was fun, Lara! I definitely recommend that shirt pattern, Simplicity 1538, it’s a good one too. I love the apron, love vintage patterns, been sewing quite a few of them lately. Deb.

Wonderful! I'll definitely take your recommendation on the shirt. That apron was just so cute. It's crazy to me that the 80's are now vintage, and I guess that means I am, too!I hope you had a great weekend!

This is a fun video!! I loved the beachy dress and the last one! So lovely and floaty. Maybe if you had a challenge with your mom to sew the same pattern from her stash like a small like a craft or something would be fun! 😊

I would love to have her sew something with me! It might get her motivated to sew, too. Right now she's having shoulder issues, and is starting PT in a week, but maybe next fall we can do something like that. Thanks so much for the great idea! And thanks for watching and commenting, too! :D

How cool! I would have loved to rummage through my mom's patterns. She didn't have that many, but the ones she did have, she traced off and used a lot.

One thing that became abundantly clear while I was rummaging around is that patterns, like our fabric stashes, hold history. It was a nice reminder of happy times in the past. It also makes me even more grateful that I can make things for my boys and maybe some day they'll look back on this time with happy memories, too. :)

Lara, I have that New Look 6774 Wow! I love the stirrup pants. I remember that Raggedy Ann & Andy pattern! Very popular back in the day. The apron with the heart pockets is to die for! Can't wait to see Mom's completed project! 😃

Thank you, Grace! My mom had three different Raggedy Ann and Andy patterns! I think they were in different sizes, maybe. I thought that apron pattern was so cute. I'm hoping she'll let trace off of it and I can make one! I'm trying to get my mom's project off the ground, but it's turning out to be a little more involved than I thought it would be. I'm working on it though!

What fun!!! I can remember shopping for patterns at our local stores, I loved going through the books and the drawers, but my mom seems to love to throw things away, LOL but I would love to get a look at what patterns she used. I only remember the shopping, I don't remember the patterns 😁Thanks for sharing!

Even the shopping is wonderful memories ☺️ Thanks so much for watching and sharing them with me! Btw, I’m almost ready to send your package. Finding fun things you might not have have proven harder than I thought!

funny how many of those patterns I remember from high school and college. Also, on that mccalls 3899-remember to account for the shoulder pads...

    • @LaraSchiffbauer
      @LaraSchiffbauer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

I hope it was bringing back some happy memories, then! High school memories can be a bit iffy... I haven't sewn anything with shoulder pads, yet, so I appreciate the reminder. I did find a pattern for shoulder pads a couple of months back, so I'll get to use that one, too, if I ever make the pattern! Thanks so much for watching and commenting and just being a great help!

Your camera is too far away from the camera. Lighting is not good and you hold the patterns at an angle so I gave up trying to watch.
