    I use a small shop vac and vacuum out the auger intake and then vacuum out the auger tube after taking off the fire pot. Works great and takes a lot less time.

    • @madbackyard
      @madbackyard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mike, I was thinking the shop vac wouldn't be able to pull out the pellets stuck at the center of the auger tube without removing the entire auger itself. But I will may give it a try next time to see how it works!

    I used a yard stick last (first) time. I really like your suggestion of the paint stir stick much better. Thank you. Also, I am using a gallon bucket from Olive Garden to catch the pellets. It's large enough and a bit less cumbersome. Really nice bucket;.mine does not have a inner container, but it is fitted with a screw-on lid.

    If you don’t have small children, remove that protective screen from your auger box and store it away if you ever want to sell the grill or have to return it for warranty. It’s so much easier to deal with.

    • @madbackyard
      @madbackyard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Was thinking the same thing but haven't gotten around to it yet. The paint stick works pretty good for now!

    • @BLACKMONGOOSE13
      @BLACKMONGOOSE13 ปีที่แล้ว

      I removed mine. First time I filled it, pellets went everywhere because of the screen.

    How long should it take before you get the error code?
    I have the temp set to 375, and the temperature has now dropped to 115 the auger and the fan and igniter keep cycling on and off but it’s heading to well over a half hour and still no error….no fire either.

    If you burn all the pellets and get the error, don't you have to prime it the next time you turn it on?

    • @madbackyard
      @madbackyard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. If you burn out all the pellets from the auger for longer term storage or non-use, you will have to prime the auger the next time you reload. Check out our video on How to start a New Pit Boss for details on this if needed. Thanks for watching!

    How do you keep it from throwing a heat error when grilling?

    • @madbackyard
      @madbackyard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't run into that error code myself but found this thread about it on a Pit Boss forum. www.pitbossforum.com/threads/error-code-her.507/
      Looks like it my be a bad internal temperature probe thinking the grill is getting too hot. I would call Pit Boss and see if they will send you a replacement. Hope that helps.

    • @madbackyard
      @madbackyard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also a fairly inexpensive replacement probe here on amazon if you don't want the hassle of going through Pit Boss. Make sure its the right size for your particular model.

    Did you use a dry paper towel to clean out the ash pot?

    • @madbackyard
      @madbackyard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I usually do after dumping the ash just to get any pellet pieces still stuck to the inside. It's usually pretty clean already from the burnoff though.

    Dang, are you suppose to do this after you use the grill every time? A lot of time.

    • @madbackyard
      @madbackyard  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, only if you aren’t going to be using it for a couple weeks or longer so that the pellets don’t absorb too much moisture. Also depends how humid an area you live in.
