It occupies a space outside of the universe that is infinite in scope and size and dread. What appears in Derry is a small, psychic projection of the true entity; ancient and unknown in origin. Here, it just wants to eat and sleep. Even when the Losers defeat it, they immediately start forgetting everything just as they did as kids (and as all kids do when they grow up in Derry, or leave all together. King has also alluded to Pennywise being alive in later publications when various characters have passed through Derry. We don't need more of IT's story, because the possibility is what makes us want more. Civilization and Hollywood are so OCD anymore that they need every prequel, sequel, and in-between; every detail exposed until the entire world shrinks. Let's try going back to when we were left wanting more but didn't get it.
