- Part one is here, • will it run? antique h... I picked up this 1975 honda tl 250 that sat in a barn for a long time, it has lots of issues. one of them the fact that the engine is stuck, lets see what it will take to bring it back to life. this is a two part video as it took a while.
Our local vintage Honda guy retired years ago so my ‘81 CB900C has been sitting in the garage for the last 5 years. Your videos gave me the confidence to tackle the carbs, brakes, shock seals and other “stuff” on my own and now I’m riding it almost every day. Thanks for the knowledge you share so freely.
i have a real good set of carbs in my hoard from a 900 bol d or .. but in new zealand ..

Love this guy... I am envious of his ability to take items that were discarded and bring back to life. In a day and age where most things are disposable, it is really neat to see things back in usable manner.
No phoney deadlines, no drama, no so silly wanna be celebrities, no crap at all, just Mustie doing his thing in his garage. If only tv producers watched Mustie's channel they could learn a thing or two about how to make quality entertainment for all of us mechanically minded dudes. You know what, I totally agree with you. No bullshit TV might get me to actually watch it again. Until then, I am more than happy with Mustie. Like someone else said, it feels like you are in the garage with him. I often find my self wanting to reach into the screen and give him the third hand he sometimes needs.
TV today is social engineering disguised as entertainment.

Exactly what I've been doing all week... 1979 trail bike rebuild.....got a good spark, carb is rebuilt and stopped leaking... idles and revs well, gears all work. (really low gears) now need to figure out why the lights don't work..... fun fun fun..thanks for the inspiration.

I dismantled the carburetor on a dune buggy this past weekend; I used the knowledge I gained from you to complete the task. Simultaneously, I taught one of my three sons, my eleven year old (he’s doesn’t remember buggy running), how to do this work and why it needs to be done. Thank you for inspiring me to tackle this task because I normally steer away from small engine tinkering; we had a blast! Unfortunately, the shutoff valve was broken, so we weren’t able to cold start the engine, but it will be accomplished one day as I’ve ordered a replacement part. Peace-out!
Thank you for sharing the project with your son! My Dad answered many questions as I stood on a stool to peer over the fender of our 1954 Oldsmobile Super 88! Then my kids helped with projects and enjoyed the quality time learning with Dad the Motorhead! Be a Good Dad!
Ive been a little critical in the past about " too much talk not enough doing " content on many YT channels, so its a pleasure to come across your channel that really does stuff and chats about it at the same time.
Many channels spend too much time telling the viewer about stuff without actually doing stuff. Im sure I speak for many of your subscribers when I say your content is great. your style is balanced and informative and you do real renovation which we can all learn from. Great work ….thankyou.

I have taken the carb off of my Honda C70 (1st time carb work for me) and am going to attempt to clean it up myself. Float had fuel in it and I only knew that this was a problem from watching mustie. I may never be a mechanic, but feels good to try to fix it myself. Thanks Darren!!

Oh boy! 5th in line! Cleaning up those points was basic bike maintenance in “the day”. I was 20 in 1976 ,had bought a brand new ‘76 Yamaha RD 400c, first year production, paid $1,389.00 (Canadian!)that went through point sets like water over Niagra. Every week/10 days was about it, mind you, it was a simple task to do. Yamaha finally got it right a few years later with CDI coming in, but hey, it was a good time when a bunch of guys with “rice burners” would get together and tell lies about how fast their bikes were and do some wrenching on the oil burners. Miss that little rocket 😢🏍🏍. Keep on with these very informative and memory jogging vids !!
Michael Wojciechowski I was in the Navy in Japan in 70. I ordered a Honda 350 SL from the dealer outside the main gate for $500 and 100 for shipping to Norfolk when I got out. Had lots of fun with it. Would not run with a battery I learned!
I bought a Suzuki 250 in 78 when I was stationed in Norfolk. I had to adjust the points every 200 miiles.I used to everywhere at 85mph. Now I have a 150cc bike I have gone metric and am happy at 85 kph.
I got a point's file, dug it out the other day - not seen alot of action lately! Points and distributors seemed to take up a lot of time back in the day!
I'm restoring a DT400c that I've had for about 35 years. Almost done. Just trying to figure out the correct yellow paint match...

Hey I met this gentleman at a car show at skips hamburgers in Massachusetts! Very nice guy. Amazing talent and skill. Saw his split window and old bikes. I’d def like to see his shop. Glad I found this channel from Reddit. Someone was explaining about this guy that’s works on air cooled VW from New England I’m like it’s gotta be him. Yep it is!

Thanks Mustie, we all love the first time it starts. I use an 1/2" drive Inline Ratchet between my drill and socket, so if it starts with drill, it doesn't kick..

Hey Mustie, Every viewer felt that same sense of self satisfaction that you felt when that engine fired up. Bringing back great memories of riding the Honda single 4 strokes of the 1970's. I remember all my fellow riders on 2 strokes laughing until theirs flooded out the first time they spilled their bike while my little 4 stroke fired right up.
Great to see it coming back to life, that satisfaction is the same for any of us that work on old gear, whether it is bikes, cars, tractors, old radios, TVs or computer equipment. The only difference is when whoring on electronics you DON'T want to see smoke!

I’m retired so I have a lot of free time, I had been watching mabe 4-5 hours of TV a day . But sense I’ve discovered your channel, I have replaced at least 90% of that TV time with your videos and have much more entertained. Actually thinking of discontinuing my TV service altogether. Hey Mustie. I used to buy stationary engines from the Great Dorset Steam Fair and other such events. I would stick them in my little shed/workshop and bring them back to life. I had to move home and no shed now. So now I watch you do all the hard work while I sit back with a coffee :) Love the videos. Thank you.

What sorcery is this?! You're a freaking Wizard man. I do believe that you have more mechanical aptitude in your pinkie finger nail than the majority of people in the US. In fact you've most likely forgotten more about wrenching than most ASE certified mechanics learned in their career.

It's true..that feeling of bringing something back running..when it was a discarded pos laying somewhere is a feeling that is hard to explain, and the reason some of us do that wrenching. Don't forget rear shocks on your list, although you probably have those in the horde, as those seemed bad. Crusty looks so right..and so nice parked along the water like that, it's like a scene from way back when, and then a artist capturing it just made it perfect. Love that thing, lol, and have been keeping my eyes open for them too!

I "always" love watching your "bringing things back to life!" videos. Kinda reminds me of when I work on things that I've been able to do the same with. I saw you have the drain valve, on your model of ultrasonic cleaner too, now what I did was attach some clear hose on it, and a paper fuel filter, I put the other end in a big can that can hold 10L of fluid on the floor and let it drain into the can and the fuel filter filters out particals and cleans the fluid pretty good and then I just fill the tank back up, I do that every week or so depending on the use it gets..... Just a tip and idea for you.
I really like you're steadfast approach to troubleshooting, with all the calm, cool and collectedness of a stroll in the park, and none of the tool chucking fury I tend to exhibit. You are the ying to my yang.

Hello Mustie. I'm in the process of bringing a 1969 Honda CB 160 back to life. It belonged to my best friend who died in Feb. 2018. So it has been and emotional adventure trying to get it running after sitting for thirty four years. It was really fun to watch your video, because you remind me of my friend and how we would be fixing our motorcycles back fifty years ago. Keep up the good work as it has been fun to watch.

I've seen hundreds of comments praising Darren's skills as a mechanic and I agree with all of them. But I can't help marveling on his skills as a teacher and as a videographer. When he finished that Cushman and was test driving (joy riding) it, he did a shot of the engine while going 30 mph using one outstretched hand while steering the scooter with the other. Francis Ford Coppola would be proud to take credit for that shot! Keep up the great work!

That brings back fond memories. I had an XL250 of similar year - that clunky exhaust system was just like mine. And a friend had a TL250 much like the one you've acquired. Loads of fun running amok around Percy Priest Lake in Nashville.

I am working on two CT70's a 1864 Cub cadet and a fj55 landcruiser and 75' Pontiac LeMans myself not too mention a 20' enclosed trailer I am turning into a part time camper when I get time. Lol.

I applaud you for taking on a trials bike. As a teenager, I worked in a Honda shop and I remember riding one of those. They are really fun to ride around hills and rocks and such in a trials way, slow and no feet touching the ground.

One of the projects I have sitting in the shed that one day I will be working on is a 1996 xr600R it laid in my friends yard for a few years till I rescued it. I learned so much from this video just in a different approach to repair than buying parts first. Loved it
