Looks like the same 54 people that disliked the other videos in this series are slackers. Only 28 made it here. GREAT WORK!! I love restoring old bikes. I wish I had your shop space.
I'm so glad you got a late night ride in the convertible before the weather gets too cold. Or any problem if I wasn't there as well. So glad to hear your energy back in your voice and back in the groove.
Great set of videos - above any beyond your obvious extensive bike knowledge is your ability to narrate and communicate really well along with the visual - really nice!
I have one and went on the same adventure struggling with carb and pet cock. It's amazing how they all have the same problems after sitting for years. Great Job and thanks for sharing!
This bike is going to be a blast when you get it done ! Good to see you back looks like you are feeling better. Take it easy ! Many of us look every day to see if you've posted a video !
Mustie....you are always so positive and always looking to make the best out of every situation. Thank you for sharing and teaching each and every one of us about making the something great out of what is presented to us. Thanks once again. Many I am sure look forward to a daily dose of Mustie. Cheers, and keep em coming
Watching you bend the frame was fun because I know those old Hondas are built tough like old Soviet block drill instructors. Sweet bike and thanks for the video.
Hello mustie 1. thank you for it's moment of mechanics and always your good mood. I learn a lot even if I do not speak your language, I am French. I hope to do something like you in a few years for my retirement. your video is very rich on simple techniques and thank you for keeping the small errors very funny for once. Bye. Pascal
New subscriber. Just wanna say that I love your videos. Can't believe I hadn't run across you sooner. We need to get your channel mentioned on someone like AvE or Abom. You deserve a million subs.
Hey Mustie, great vid as usual. Difficult to react against fabric straps. Instead of tugging against the straps I was thinking of a long clamp arrangement on both parts of the frame, then a twisting action. Just a thought.
For trials riding, you will want to go with lower tire pressures. 4-5 psi is probably about right in softer conditions, maybe up to about 8 psi if you're riding in rocks. An older bike like this is great for practicing skills, it should run forever!
I like the ruststoring videos. There are some projects where a restoration makes sense but a lot where a rustoration is more practical. Always love me a Mustie1 video.
Do any other UK peeps remember the TV programs Kick Start and Junior Kick Start? I fooking loved these two shows. Brilliant trials bike shows which first introduced me to trial biking and also the Lampkin family.
A worthwhile modification to this bike will be to move the footpegs down so the underside of the peg is just above the sump guard and also move them rearward about an inch. This is a very common modification here in the UK for most trials bike of that age along with steepening the angle of the forks.
Bought a new Honda 250 Elsinore in 1974 looked a lot like trails bike you have been working on it was great little off road bike. wish now that I would have kept it.
You are a very talented man. you do good work I have tried several times to adjust the spokes on a rim and cannot even get that close bout the best I ever done is what you started with lol nice work keep up the vids
Hi from England mustie1 Rite: What you need to remember...is that once metal has been bent its been stretched... And its very difficult to shrink it back (it wants to stretch on the opposite side)....this causes alignment issues... But....here's where the elements are your friend: By applying gentle heat....then quenching rapidly you can SHRINK the metal back....without pulling the opposite side... Hope this helps. Glenn GLMelectrical P. S. Love you videos...😉
Nice job, as usual! It looks to me like it is the rear fender that is still tweaked. The hole at the top is horizontal and the bottom back edge isn't. Of course you have figured all that out days ago and already bent it back straight. :-)
Lil says "Come on..that doggie ice cream isn't going to wait forever!" Glad you replaced those tires, and I've had good luck with those Pirelli's myself, actually really like them.A trick too people, the bearings for the back wheel(also the front) you can take a pick set..and a small screwdriver and carefully remove the dust cap, clean if needed..and gently pack them with good red wheel bearing grease, and tap the grease cap back in place, makes the old bikes move like crazy when you get them going..and not have problems w/bearings that have probably been in water and grit long ago, this from a guy who does old bikes too, and especially trials/old dual purpose bikes. Also didn't that frame have a dented/smashed in spot along the bottom on I believe the left side? Might want to pop that out some too as long as your working on it.
hey buddy, on the ends of the rear wheel shaft there is a stopper on both sides, you have them on back to front. the little tabs are supposed to stop on the frame for the chain adjustment. just a helpful point from a friendly britt :) love the vids by the way.
The original tire is 4" the replacement is labeled in metric so 130mm divided by 25.4mm/inch=5.12" The "80" is 80% of the width so 5.12" x .8=4.09 tall for each side so times that by 2. 4.09x2=8.18" plus 18"( the rim size ) you have a 26.18" tire diameter.
Considering that Hondas of that era were built like the proverbial brick out house (or sherman tank, your pick), somebody pranged that poor baby pretty good. Nice to see her getting some tlc for a change.
yup, sure looks like they did a reverse endo.....I don't know if that heat helped the molybdenum frame though.....I had an MT125 and beat the living snot out of it jumping, falling and even wrapped it around a telephone pole and the frame was dead nuts on. Hard to bend and hard to straighten......
Man I love ur style. So much fun. I wish I could b like u but I'm 2 broke. But between u, Dr Matt DvMD on Demolition Ranch / Vet Ranch / Off The Ranch, & Grant from The King of Random I really like 2 watch u all the most. Keep on keeping on & 1 luv.
Hey musti 1 just a thought for bending the back end back maybe try taking the shock off top or bottom i think it would be playing against what your trying to like pushing back what you already done specifically when its red hot. No hate just a thought i bring to your attention. Keep the videos coming
That rear sprocket is a very rare item to find, last I knew nobody made a replacement piece. You have to use a flat sprocket and spacer. B&J Racing Products, Sprocket Specialists and Speed&Sport all have the adapter pieces. If you really wanted to be "authentic" you might be able to have the original welded up and re-cut. Might be an interesting project with a TIG..
Speed & Sport will cut just about anything but the issue is the dish on the OEM, I think it might cost more than the bike is worth to have one made to match !!!
Partsgiant has a replacement for $29 www.partsgiant.com/p342373-jt-520-steel-rear-sprocket?f=120990 yeah you have to might have to use a spacer, but would before I ran that one it has w/missing teeth. Other options; www.partsgiant.com/p349522-pbi-aluminum-rear-sprocket?f=120990 www.partsgiant.com/p342207-parts-unlimited-520-lightweight-rear-sprocket
When you get it back together I like to see you stand on the pegs with the bike running, come to a stop without the kickstand down, and balance it for at least five seconds then take off.
I looked it up and the entire muffler assembly is fairly cheap and available. Muffler back pressure can seriously effect a motors efficiency and power.
Hi mustie, agree with what you say the bike is for you so do as you want, who was the car ride for you or the dog? I say the dog. Keep up the great work mark uk
By the time you get this you'll probably already have the machine back together however the T L Series Hondas do you have problems with swing arm bushings if yours has a grease fitting you're going to want to hit it while you can still get at it.
Looks like the same 54 people that disliked the other videos in this series are slackers. Only 28 made it here. GREAT WORK!! I love restoring old bikes. I wish I had your shop space.
Breaking that bead with the puff of dust was like releasing 'the ghost of restorations past'. Great video. Thank you

Doing a great job on that bike. Glad to see you able to take your pup for a ride.
Watching you bend the frame was fun because I know those old Hondas are built tough like old Soviet block drill instructors. Sweet bike and thanks for the video.

thanks for watching pascal
Always a good time wrenching in the garage with you, Darren. Glad you're feeling better and posting up more fun stuff for our viewing pleasure
Almost didn't see her sitting in the car, she's so black and shiny. Perfect camouflage.
Glad you're back and feeling better.
Hell of a difference on fixing the tire wobble. good job!
Glad you're feeling better. Love your old girl, so sweet bless her.
Good to have a new one from you. Hope you're feeling better.
OK That type of bending hurts me. Good work I did not realise that fender was plastic. Nice work on that sprocket. Thanks Mustie. Loved it.
New subscriber. Just wanna say that I love your videos. Can't believe I hadn't run across you sooner. We need to get your channel mentioned on someone like AvE or Abom. You deserve a million subs.
Hope you are feeling better. Glad you are back wrenching.
Gotta love an old Lab. My mom sure does miss hers...she looked just like yours.
Hey Mustie there’s usually felt washer sits in the recess underneath the brake wear indicator tab washer on the pivot.
Nothing like a man and his best friend taking a nice leisurely ride together. Getting close to 200K subs awesome mustie!!!
Lily loves the end of day ride in Dads convertible. Great video Darren - loving this bike and series! Chuck in NE Kansas
Glad you're feeling better and back at it. It's coming along nicely. Wish I still had mine.
Good video. I hope you are feeling better. Looking forward to see this thing run.
I 'rust'ore old balloon-tire bicycles. The wire wheel on a bench top grinder (that you use often) has turned out to be a fantastic tip. Thank you.
Simon from the uk here...looking good, I love those tyres ... Liked the ending 😃
Wish I lived closer you have all the cool old toys I enjoy and I have many of the parts you may need...

^^^What he said ^^^👍👍
That bike is coming along really nice. A little ride with Dad and his favorite car! Can’t get much better than that. Woof woof.
I like the ruststoring videos. There are some projects where a restoration makes sense but a lot where a rustoration is more practical. Always love me a Mustie1 video.

That Lab doggie, he's such an old Cutie Pie.....Breathing life back into a wrecker, very satisfying to watch..
That back tyre does look cool mustie can't wait to her run I would love that bike great job mustie Jim in ireland

Getting close on the bike, glad to see you take care of the dog too!
I'll take the seized rear axle over the petrified rear tire swap any day ! Nice choice on the tires .
yeah those old tires can put up a good fight

This guy is an awsome mech,i have learned so much from him !!
Love the bonus shot at the end... SUPERB!

Makes me want to go find a old cycle so I can start turning some wrenches. Thanks for the upload
Thank you for sharing Mr Mustie1, I love your video work. Very well done.
I have 2 TL250 engines I need rebuilt. Do you know of someone or do you do it? I live in Connecticut.
I got a big 'persuading' bar like that it's even got cobwebs too! Shame about you rope 'tie down' - but they have their limits. Good to see you back!
Hey musti 1 just a thought for bending the back end back maybe try taking the shock off top or bottom i think it would be playing against what your trying to like pushing back what you already done specifically when its red hot. Yaay! Always a good day when mustie posts a video
Sweet Mopar Sonata in F# major there at the end. Music to my ears!
nice work! cant wait to see this bike riding again.

Great update to the trials bike project!
Gorgeous architecture on this bike
Wow! He actually uses the body hammer for what it was intended! Didn’t think I’d ever see that........
Nice work on an old favorite. I did much the same to a 75 and sped up the film .fun to watch maybe .
Honda tl250 time lapse on you tube

yeah l went looking for one and got sticker shock on one that was worse then mine,
Blazer02LS I would think Renthal or Talon here in the uk will make a rear sprocket due to the popularity of twinshock trials here 👍👍
Speed & Sport will cut just about anything but the issue is the dish on the OEM, I think it might cost more than the bike is worth to have one made to match !!!

Nothing like ending the day w a nice Mopar Convertible, the it's not a party w/o the lube line was priceless
I sure like your videos I love your attitude about what you do keep it up
Coming along nicely, and as for looks, who cares, function over form and all... :D
When you get it back together I like to see you stand on the pegs with the bike running, come to a stop without the kickstand down, and balance it for at least five seconds then take off.

Great job on this vid. Love the outro dear dog.

I envy your next door neighbours mustie as they get to show an interest in your hobbies lol great video mate
Hi mustie, agree with what you say the bike is for you so do as you want, who was the car ride for you or the dog? I say the dog. Keep up the great work mark uk
Nice wheel tread daren. Hey pups.
Soap and water goes a long way when taking tires off, and putting them on. Good video!
This would be what they call a sympathetic restoration

already did
