- Here we have a pretty close look at the XA Falcon 500 wagon. There will be two videos detailing the condition, as there was insufficient time to blow the car apart to the level we needed. There are many surprises, some good and some not so good. Hope you enjoy!
You’re not crazy Peter. You’re one of us! 😊
By the way, I would fix it up and paint it rather than a patina build. I think they are getting a little passé these days. Also, I am pretty sure I have one of those roof racks in nice condition. Maybe we can do a trade for those 14” Galaxie wheels and caps you don’t like?
I actually agree, I've never appreciated patina builds, I like shiny and new haha. Roof rack trade sound great, let me see if I can rustle up a few other rims so I can move the Galaxie around, then you can take them... one of them has a flat though, cheers.
This one deserves saving, but don't they all? Good job Peter. 😊
XA and a longroof! love it! man I can just picture the kelly green shining and the roof rack and hub caps sparkling, thin pin white walls and a 302 burble :)
XA is arguably one of the most handsome cars Australia has produced.
Awesome score Peter!
Always great to see another new project added to the collection!
This promises to be good. I watched Jason Hill do the resto on his Aussie Ford Fairlane and the engine work you did for that car. I’m sure to enjoy watching this Aussie Ford Station Wagon get restored.
I could smell it too as you were checking it over. 😊
Oddly enough, it doesn't smell at all... with very little rotted carpet and no front or rear glass to hold humidity in, we dodged a bullet on that one, cheers.
Onya Pete! I’m weeks away from the factory being completed. Once I get the keys I’m going to hire a car trailer to move all of my cars there, including the XC GXL that I still need to collect from benella. I was just thinking how enjoyable initial inspections and clean ups are. Discovering all of the good and bad points. Watching you do that in this vid fires me up mate. Thanks for another great vid and the inspiration
Hoping you will fire up your video camera again when you get access to the factory.
@@brucescott2263 most def Bruce… I can’t wait
Mate, you're always welcome and don't forget you have a battery here haha, cheers.
What a beaut, She isn't the worst I have seen. My XB is in about the same kind of condition. I have a soft spot for wagons. You see a lot of people with coupes and four doors, but you dont see too many people with wagons which is what draws me more to them than the others.
Pete out in his natural environment - saving the unsavable.
@@farnthboy and as the late Maxwell Smart said ‘…and loving it!, haha cheers
@@PeterAndersons How do you go with all the Rego's Peter, they keep going up !
I'm a fan of wagons, looking forward to more content on this one
As a younger guy I really didn't like them, but love them now... go figure.
Great ep Pete, wagon looks like a keeper.
Your XD is beautiful 👍👍
@@chrisF351 Thanks buddy we have some catching up to do, cheers
The anticipation is building, and we all know what's coming-can't wait to see that 302 in action!
Thanks mate, it'll rock a 250 auto to get it to driver status, then later on...
Shifter is from a Cortina
Thanks mate, I thought it must have been, cheers.
Nice same colour as our xB wagon growing up which carried my parents and 5 of us around. Awesome.
This girl is going to be a huge amount of work, but, imagine how beautiful she will be when finished. A rare eye catcher, love the wagons. Once restored maybe only one of a few in Aus? Going to be well worth the wait, and the work.
Reuse recycle is always good - but nothing's like cruising in a sleeper 302 tbar auto, whatever you choose to do with it Peter, I'm sure it will come up a treat
Great episode, looking forward to future vids 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
The wagon is so much better than I was expecting. It is definitely too good to cut up. For the sake of simplicity and to do something different (does everything have to be a V8?) make it a 6 with that 3 speed floor shift, which could be some sort of after market kit maybe? I had a friend who had an XK Falcon (in 1969) which had a Hurst 3 speed floor shift conversion which only moved in a fore and aft action. From memory, you had to push the lever down and forward for 1st and then pull it back (it sprung up) into 2nd and push it forward for 3rd. Reverse was push down and pull back. It also had a Lukey muffler and it sounded fab! Oh, memories, memories. Anyway, the XA is a brilliant opportunity. When you get over the excitement of it and have a chance to look at it rationally, I'm sure you will come up with something. 😊👍 P.S. Totally agree about the roof rack, excellent looking thing.
Sounds like a Speco Quick Shift, i had one as well back in the 80's.
Thanks Pauline, always a pleasure to hear from you. No everything doesn't need to be a V8, I just have a spare in bits here and I like to resurrect old junk. Despite that though, I'll be using the 6 cylinder engine, auto transmission and T-bar shifter I removed from the Fairlane - at least for now. I had to replace the shifter on the Fairlane because 6's and V8's are controlled from opposite sides. Stay well and I'll hopefully catch up with you soon, cheers.
@@PeterAndersons Sounds like a good plan for the car. 😊👍
I'm looking at this and I reckon it would be awesome to see a resto back to original. You just don't see bone stock old Falcon's, Kingswood or Valiant's anymore. Of course this is just my personal preference but if I was to see this parked next to an equivalent GT or something I'd be all over the wagon! Everyone does a GT but no one does a base model. These were the bread and butter of Australia back in the day.
You're absolutely correct in my view. It'll go back to its original colour with colour coded steelies and dog dish hubcaps. I will put a period correct 302 in with the correct air cleaner etc and give it power steering too... just a few other cars to finish first.
@@PeterAndersons you could also widen those steelies for effect! What shifter location are you thinking of? A column auto with a pair of buckets and a divider would make it a superb cruiser. Just slip in a few throw rugs, coffee table and some pillows and you will have the perfect mobile lounge room!
Hi Peter, It was great to see you again.
Good to see your little Corolla there in the background that green one.
My new Corolla is still going well, very much so Touchwood.
Cheers mate from William.
Thanks, you too!
Tidy it up Peter and save it for another day with the 302
That's the plan, cheers.
I Like the looks of the XA more than the XB and never saw many around as a 73 gen Xer. Make it a plain Jane charmer, dog dish caps, six cylinder, zero luxury load lugger. It will garner interest aplenty.
“Owners manual not there” haha
Store the long roof until the time is right. Half arseing it means ultimately doing the job twice.
True, but I still have to half arse another engine in for now, just so I can move it, cheers.
Looks like it was the same green as my Auntie's old XA wagon.
Definitely worth saving!
🤣
Mate thats better then DJ mint hahaha
Id say keep it if you didn't have 45 other projects 😂
Or use it for the mapping to build the other xa and if you come past or people send you a part or 2 do it up later
We cleaned out the Brougham mate the Big Fella is keen to get this on the road haha
Take it easy mate Byron 👍
Thanks mate, definitely too many projects here, but I'm kinda into that. DJ mint is folk law; I've never seen it in person... but if our buddy Donald says a car is too far gone, it would be unrecognisable!
'This isn't going to be done quickly' ....
How many projects do you have on the go? How long have you been working on them?
Please finish some! but look forward to watching none the less!
I know I'm pretty frustrating from that angle, sorry about that! It is a hobby though and I go where the mood takes me. I've been continuously filming, editing and publishing videos on this platform since October 2012, with no real time off. Quite often, it takes weeks to do a repair and it only yields one video. I'm happy to keep going with these shenanigans, but if it was to feel like work and stress crept in, I'd stop doing it. I have finished quite a few projects, the rest will come, cheers.
that car saved my life
Get it running as a 6 I recommend
Will do!
Definitely fix it,pretty good for rust really. Not many xa about now
Certainly will, but I'll just get it going for now, cheers.
I would be making it 6 cylinder and auto.
She needs to be shiny again. She’s still got good bones. Loads of work though.
Great minds think alike, cheers mate!
@@PeterAndersons If you put the 6 in, are you going to strip down the motor? I’d like to see a 6 being built.
Its a good base , do the welding and brakes then drop in an engine and box , .... do not know what there is in Aus but a modern engine/auto box (manual with automated shift ) would make the wagon a real nice driving bus and tow rig ... just a thought .... as for the colour respray it the original or near as in a metallic , with a contrasting solid colour roof/A,B C? and D ? pillars .
Why not use the 6 out of the fairlane and the auto box and you would have a driveable wagon that requires some work just a thought as you have the running gear from the fairlane that could free up some space and give the wagon a chance to relive
That's precisely what I'll do, cheers.
XA wagon is way cooler than the Fairlane. Do a 'backshed' style resto then move it on and use the cash you make to finish your Plymouth.
It is a bit cooler, but I have a couple of other cars to move on before this one, cheers.
Looks like you might have a home for the 4.1 you took out of the Fairlane?
Indeed!
Oh your back.... , do you still have the Suzuki T250 ?
Yeah, it was in the garage a bit over 2 mins into the video, cheers.
Hey Peter would the wagon be a good candidate for a TAFE project ?
Auto training is now more small module based rather than project based, cheers.
Omg! Peter! You need to stop dragging strange cars home! 😮
... the chicken wire is choice though!
I know, I have some issues with old cars haha, cheers.
when i crashed my xt 1968 the car ws strped in 1 houre 9 inch diff 302
Good luck with the XA Wagon, it looks pretty f$&ked
Absolutely does, but none of it looks particularly difficult, the sedan it a harder job, cheers.
how about selling the 6 and put the money back into the wagon, love a big ol box of a wagon too
where's the XC mate y haven't you finished that of the XA needs to be done right i think.
The XC is here, need to finish off the final few things that's all... it's 99% done, cheers.
Hi Peter, get the wagon safe and running with six out of the Fairlaine? It's too good to junk.
More cars need to be saved. Otherwise, we would have no history of Aussie cars left to show.
I couldn't agree more, yes the 6 from the Fairlane will go in, cheers.
XB front doors
221 v6
6 cylinder the old girl
That's what I'll do for now, cheers.
6 cyl Tbar auto and tidy it up, fix the rust.
That's the plan, cheers.
I feel sorry for you.
Colour looks like Pottery Beige…
I'd say you're probably correct, cheers.
302
Maybe sometime later, cheers.
drop a few $ and get it running so you can move it around for now
Yes, the only money I'll spend on it is for fluids to get the six and auto running. Although I doubt it'll fit, I'll also use the Fairlanes old master and maybe front calipers to allow it to stop.
@@PeterAndersons Will be checking in , from Los Angeles
i lost control rain going to fast hit the kerb 360 medium strip into a tree i should be dead
Rat rod with a 6
That'll be the flavour to start with, cheers.
Diagnosis: Mental caries...😅
Just full it Of bog and sell for a quick flip
I could... but I won't, cheers.
fords escort capri falcon
🤣🤣🤣🤣🙏🙏 its a rust bucket.
to much rust
Not worth repairing..you'd get more for Scrap...
