Schellingwoude en Oranjesluizen

Schellingwoude is nog een van de bijna ongerepte dorpen binnen de Gemeente Amsterdam. Mijn moeder is hier geboren in 1916 toen het nog onder de gemeente Ransdorp viel. Het was de tijd van de grote watersnood in Waterland. Daar is nu niets meer van terug te zien (gelukkig). Als je op de Schellingwouderdijk als voetganger niet voortdurend op je tellen moet passen vanwege de auto’s, de snelle fietsen, de fatbikes en de tractoren en je de grote woontorens van Zeeburg en Amsterdam-Noord in de verte even wegdenkt, waan je je nog in een verleden tijd. Ondanks dat blijft het een leuk dorp. De Oranjesluizen zijn een belevenis op zich met de vistrap en de voortdurende vaarbewegingen van het Buiten IJ naar het Afgesloten IJ en andersom. In de verte is het Centraal Station te zien, hoewel dat kilometers ver weg is. Ook leuk natuurlijk is de Wijkergouw met het witte Schellingwouder kerkje dat nu vooral als trouwlocatie wordt gebruikt. Heb ik al verteld dat ik hier lang geleden in mijn tienerjaren als bijverdienste de krant (Het Vrije Volk, dat niet meer bestaat) heb rondgebracht?

Schellingwoude is one of the almost untouched villages within the Municipality of Amsterdam. My mother was born here in 1916 when it was still part of the municipality of Ransdorp. It was the time of the great flood in Waterland. None of that can be seen anymore (fortunately). If you, as a pedestrian, don't have to constantly watch your step on the Schellingwouderdijk because of the cars, the fast bicycles, the fat bikes and the tractors and you think away the large residential towers of Zeeburg and Amsterdam-Noord in the distance, you still imagine yourself in a past. Despite that, it remains a nice village. The Oranjes locks are an experience in themselves with the fish ladder and the continuous sailing movements from the 'Buiten IJ' to the 'Afgeloten IJ' and vice versa. The Central Station can be seen in the distance, although it is miles away. Also nice, of course, is the Wijkergouw with the white Schellingwouder church that is now mainly used as a wedding location. Have I already told you that a long time ago in my teenage years I delivered the newspaper (Het Vrije Volk, which no longer exists) here as an extra income? We looked around here on June 5 2024.
