Per me sarà molto importante.

This is amazing voice with brilliant old school low larynx technique !
I think it depends on voice size. Gigli has big voice and he can darken it properly when needed. Same with Lauri-Volpi.
But Di Stefano (also lyric and with the same perfect technique) cannot sing great Otello. He just don't have enough voice for it. Same with Pavarotti and many other lyric tenors.
Great technique will help you, but it can't give you extra voice.

This excerpt comes from a movie and was recorded in studio. He did record many such excerpts for movies, from roles he never sang live and never had any intention of coming within a mile of the live role. Singing the entire role live, and recording small excerpts in studio are very different situations. In the recording studio you can repeat for so long until you get something that works.
otmorozokk_444 No, it's NOT low larynx. Where on earth did you get this crazed notion? Neither Gigli not Lauri Volpi did use low larynx. So, again, where did you get this crazed notion?

    • @Saavedra99
      @Saavedra99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@denny b My reply was to otmorozokk_444 who was speaking of LOW larynx, and called it "old school." Are you entertaining the same notion? Where did you get the notion they used low larynx? Who said this is used for singing opera? (We are talking about 350 years of operatic history.) Did Gigli tell you personally he used low larynx when he recorded this? Did Gigli say ANYWHERE his method of singing was based on low larynx? Did Lauri-Volpi say ANYWHERE his method of singing was based on low larynx? If so, please cite the sources. And after you cite the sources, we may talk.

@@amantedellopera1681 Del Monaco did not sing Otello over 400 times. Irrespective of number of performances, I wonder at you confusing number of performances with excellence. I also wonder at you confusing dramatic with an artificially darkened voice. Ditto confusing dramatic with shouting. I won't be so rude and tell you you need your head examined, but I can't help wonder at the wrongness of your notions. Tamagno's voice wasn't dark, he used to sing Arnold, Raoul, Manrico, AND Andrea Chenier, and he doesn't shout in his recordings. He still could sing a C at 50.
I don't mean to say Gigli was Otello material. He wasn't, and he never had a go at it on stage. He wasn't Arnold, Raoul, Manrico material either, and, in the beginning, he wasn't even true Andrea Chenier material. The only reason he got Chenier is because the role became suddenly available, most Chenier lies well below the passagio, Gigli was in the right place at the right time, and had plenty of time.
