    Skoda was already the leading arms factory during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, so it was more an inheritance not a response. Love this channel, great work! Fascinating history telling, Empire on the cheap, it was paralleled by the RAF and interbellum aerial bombing operations.

    That economics aspect it's very important and othen overlooked, it's not just that a matter of militaries around that world couldn't see the potential of tanks but also a matter of what they could afford to buy or maintain.. for example two Vickers exports was brought in some point by the Greek army for evaluation
    The Greeks went " wow " with the new toy ... but the country was almost bankrupted and they never order more of them.. although that original vehicles helped the Greek army to realise what was the potential of those new weapons and how they could change the battlefield .. they also came to realise that since they don't have their own tanks (as they would like to )they had to find ways to neutralise the threat

    • @pistonar
      @pistonar 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      At the end of WW1 most countries were broke. It wrecked economics all over Europe. No one had money for new fangled toys, especially if, like he said, they thought that war on that scale would never happen again.

    • @Surv1ve_Thrive
      @Surv1ve_Thrive 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. It annoys me when young youtubers view WW1 and 2 history like a video game. Asking why Brits etc didn’t have snarling Tiger-like tanks of our own in 1939 etc the truth is we were skint, gut sick of warfare and no one wanted / voted for more war. We did well for the time. But Another war seemed totally pointless and insane. No civilians wanted it unlike in Germany (insane) it was crazy and the Germans could never have held their short term gains. So our planners could not foresee that insanity. It all Arguably made Soviets more effective and organised too so = the Cold War after. What horrific damage it all caused so pointlessly. Lest we forget.

    • @Pavlos_Charalambous
      @Pavlos_Charalambous 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pistonar well that was the case in 1920s but in 1930s I think it was starting to get obvious were things are going, I remember my grandfather ones told me that His father, a cavalry reserves officer told how to shoot a gun when he was 11 years old,because according to his father '' if a new war " breaks out, and he is being called to active duty, my grandfather and his siblings might found themselves being on their own and they must know how to hunt for food or protect them selves ..

    • @Surv1ve_Thrive
      @Surv1ve_Thrive 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      pistonar I agree. Smaller conflicts were foreseen if you look at military procurement that is certain. But for Germany to drive into Paris and Warsaw etc and claim those cities and countries as their own for ever by installing a few dumb facist German soldiers in bunkers and government offices is just ...it’s impossible to say how insane and stupid. This was in modern times. Almost like now. Many of them still alive now. It would never work long term. What agony it would have been under perpetual occupation Never has worked before.
      I see it as mass murder pure and simple. Cult like insanity. Not because I want to see it that way but I just cannot see it any way else. The fighting communism argument etc etc doesn’t make much sense as it made the communists stronger and better organised and by invading so many countries Germany spread herself so thin.

    Back to the previous video with Q&A on Leopard 1 you would like to get into Bovington - Poles had few Leopards 1A5 to spare. At least the last time I noticed.

    The songbird effect The Curator has put in on top of the sound track is quite cool.
    (Had he put on the bird volume little lower, he would have completely fooled me!)

    Poland in the '35. Buying the 6-ton Vickers design.
    Calls it 7TP but makes it a 10t tank - obviously.
    Moves to 9TP as a name suggests it's an 11,5t piece.
    Ends up with a TP10 - the prototype of a 14-ton medium tank in '39.

      With license built Bofors 37mm AT cannons that could trash all German and Soviet tanks i 1939 (sadly not enough money to build 3000 of them - the few light tanks that were in service were a menace but not enough and lacking air cover.)

    Brilliant once again, but where is the dog? Please tell me you didn’t lock him away but that he is current filming his top five tanks. Now that would be good. 😀
