    Playing with a border collie in a sunny garden while educating people about tanks using pasta in place of models.
    On the Scale of Britishness, where a 1 is Charles de Gaulle and a 10 is The Queen, I rate this video a Stephen Fry.

    Why was the M4A2 with the GM 6046 diesel engine not very popular with US forces? They seem to have lent a lot of them to the UK and USSR.

    • @catfish552
      @catfish552 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, it wasn't popular with the US Army in particular. They preferred to use only petrol-engined tanks to keep supply lines simpler: Everything else, from trucks down to the ovens in field kitchens, ran on petrol, so introducing another type of fuel would have been a major hassle. Hence most M4A2s were passed on to various allied nations.
      The Marine Corps used them in the Pacific theatre however. It seems this was because 1) it meant that they could more easily get their hands on tanks if they weren't also competing with the Army and 2) the Navy already used diesel for things like landing craft, so supply lines were less of an issue.

    Horns on armoured vehicles... When you've got a lot of running vehicles about you, it's easy to NOT notice the moving one behind you!
    In APC's, in barracks, we'd sound the horn to say we were about to lower the ramp!

    When I saw the pasta, I thought these are true bitter times. But in the end I found it really informative and got a great general picture of the British armoured regiment structure. So hats of to that! Goes to show how good of a story teller David Willey is and the amount of knowledge he has

    Brilliantly done Mr Willey! Paper and pasta works every time. Please please please consider keeping these types of from home talks going when these troubling times are a thing of the past.

    So, a thunderstorm is blowing in, and our terrier mix rescue is laying on my lap while I watch this. Guess who watched you collie and it's ball a bit and decided I needed to throw the ball for him?
    Interlude until the rain came down. I agree with the Coconut, these garden chats should become a regular thing.

    David, all your videos are extremely well researched and informative, thank you for your efforts. I am ex REME with a mix of Armd and Artilery units and would love you/museum to do some specials on REME support and vehicles if you could possibly do so - REME support is fundemental and many people may not know how we work hand in glove with the Regts and would hopefully find it very interesting.

    Thank you for putting out great content despite circumstances! Here's a suggestion: Would you please talk a bit about gun stabilisers, like the ones in the M3A1 or the Sherman for instance? Were the early ones of any use? When did they get good enough to permit firing (and hitting anything) on the move? How did they work? (Although the last bit may be difficult to explain without access to the museum.) Cheers!

    I have been working from home for nearly a month now, and I keep hearing about people complaining of distractions interfering with their concentration. I have never understood what they meant...until today. I wanted to watch you and hear what you were saying, but.... doggo. Now I understand.

    I am enjoying these videos David, nice range of topics. I have always wondered why British tanks have drive to the rear sprockets whilst most other countries use drive to the front sprocket ? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each system ? Thank you
