Stay cable setup on the Gordie Howe International Bridge in Detroit, Michigan.
The Gordie Howe International Bridge will indeed feature 216 stay cables when completed. These cables play a crucial role in supporting the bridge's structure, distributing loads, and maintaining its stability.
Each stay cable will consist of between 38 and 122 metal strands, which are fed inside a weather-resistant, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic pipe. This design helps protect the strands from environmental factors such as moisture and corrosion, ensuring the longevity and durability of the cables.

Awesome. Thanks for the update. I've been curious how these were handled with today's tech. I've seen old videos of how these cables were wound and installed but have yet to see one of these. I'd wager not much has changed other than the machines/hoists. I'd bet the coils are still wound up on spools at the back of the bridge with a set up uncoiler frame and a pusher to go up through what would now be hdpe duct/pipe and push it up to the saddle back down to the deck, strip the coating off the end and install them into the anchors and then stress them. The higher you go up and further out the more strands are needed. Those last ones must weigh a ton.
