If you use a Karma material x subnet, instead of a regular one you can access the karma ray node straight away.
    Great tutorial, as always :)

The reason why you can't see the "kma" nodes is because they are houdini specific nodes by sidefx, not part of the materialX definition. So access them you need to put down the "Karma materialX subnet" and NOT the "USD materialX subnet" which is strictly following the materialX definition. Same way you get access to the volume and the hair shader, you have to create the karma materialX subnet, its the same thing + sidefx nodes.

I know I'm late to the party but what I've started doing is (in the top level material library node before diving into it) replacing string in the tab menu mask with just an "*" so I can get access to all the nodes I want, including mtlx standard surface etc

The workflow is starting to look smooth, I hope some day u can jump into COPs to cover ur compositing needs as well.

Thank you! This was my first render ever in Houdini. And I could customize it very easily

18:56 well, placing 4 gpu next to each other will cause one of them to overheat if not all. Love how neat and cool your build looks but that case does not have great airflow. Btw thanks for covering Houdini solaris workflow.

Houdini 20.5: If your HDR backrground is not showing up on the viewport of the Karma camera view, you must select the dome light on the solaris network, go to it's Karma properties and enable the "Render Light Geometry" setting, by clicking the little circle next to it and seting it to the pencil "Set or Create".

Houdini 20.5: 7:36 connect Karma Ray Import directly on to Mtlx Facing Ratio, and enable "invert" on the facing ratio node.

I am so glad you began this series. There is no much resources out there, esspecialy for more avanced topics, including working with geoemtry properties and sims. I wasted a lof of hours trying to solve this issues by trial and error
Ps. Do you know how to render single layers exr instead of multilayers?

Hello, you need to use a Karma MaterialX subnet for the Karma nodes to be included :-)

So good, thank you! Just for my understanding, and to not have to cook the sim again every time you open the project - would it be a good way to save the output of the sim (SOPS level) to a USD? And just import that USD into Solaris? THANKS AGAIN, you guys are the reason I did never give up on Houdini.

    It's a pity H19.0 doesn't have FacingRatio.Is there any replacement node?

Thoroughly enjoyed both. Thanks a lot. Question: how fast is Karma really if you still need 3 GPUs ?

Why is it that every time I press render to disk and look at the task manager, only the CPU is working at 100% during rendering, even though I have set it in the karma xpu?

Hi! quick question: why i have cookin op geo every time when i add any mtlx nodes to the mtlx subnet? if dont use subnet and build material just in matlib level everything goes fine. 19.5.569

  • @baskoartega
    @baskoartega 2 ปีที่แล้ว

one thing so, in the case you have different geo nodes in the obj tab, and you wanted to assign one material per each, lets say 4, will you need to add 4 material library nodes and assign them if possible? Or more like SOP importing them one by one followed by a material library set to assign material to the node parented?

if there is a scene with an animated camera in Houdini and I want to render it in unreal, how to do it? please.

  • @christianvolkner2028

As far as I know the facing ratio node currently is not supported by XPU.
But it didn’t change the look much, did you actually trick the system?

I think there is not enough video-material on karma - can I study mantra before karma? How manrta is comparable to karma?

Houdini is famous for its deduralism, and Karma is as procedural as polygonal modeling?
