The fish, as so often in Till's poetry, here stands for the woman and the spear for the man's genitals. The word "Heer" describes the ground troops of the army, but it can also be understood as "Herr" (mister/gentleman). Possibly the reference to seafaring comes from the fact that there were no women at sea and therefore the men enjoyed themselves among themselves.
