    This is genius. Solves the problem of runoff going toward door.

    Thats a great idea, thank you. I think I will go with something like that but extend it out the other side as well that way you could keep both windows open in the rain and give myself a little more shade.

      That it a good idea. It should be an easy addition to make . Happy camping

    Exactly what I had in mind and was looking for. We just bought a hiker trailer, same style as yours. We didn’t buy a awning yet. Love the simplicity of your idea, and love the ridge you built into it. I’m going to copy your design for that. You also made a great point about the pop up canopy dangers in a wind storm. Thanks for sharing.

    I use pieces of yellow pool noodles sliced down one side and placed on any guy lines; great visibility for avoiding tripping on those lines

      Great tip!! Although the tripping around campfires give us a chance to use our first aid kits it probably better with no injuries right?? Thanks for watching Elizabeth!

    You have changed my setup for the better. Was trying to get away from a canopy and go with something easier. Thank you for sharing.

    What a great awning, seems a lot better than a shop bought one. While I don't have a Teardrop myself I do a lot of camping with my family in tents. My top tip is to tape glow sticks to the tarp stays, it's then every easy to see them in the dark. Especially when beer and wine is involved 😋 Amazon sell them and they are quite cheap.
    Thanks for sharing 👍

    Love your camper and how you use the tarp. Good things about this type material, relatively cheap, light weight and impervious to most weather. Thanks guys, will copy this idea when I build mine. Downsizing from a fold-out hardfloor camper.

    I have been considering building a camper such as yours and this idea of the canopy is a great idea. Thanks for sharing.

    Doing a van build now and thinking of a way to use this method to cover the van and give me some shady sitting area. Covering the van/camper will help keep the van cooler and by extending it out like you did adds for personal shade. Really like the center uprights to give the tarp a peak and raise it up off the camper.

      We love this awning . It sheds water and is easy to set up. We like the versatility depending on how we configure our stakes and tie downs. Have fun on the van build.

    I use yellow cordage for my tye out lines, easier to see them after the sun. Goes down

    The ropes are a negative, but the rain run off is superior to most designs. It looks like this design while being more involved would be the most functional in a downpour. Thanks for sharing.

    • @gigiplusthebeard
      @gigiplusthebeard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome. It sheds water extremely well. Since there is really nothing that can be broken, we are one of the few that leaves our awning out during a storm.

    The gap between the tarp and camper that you guys talked about also will make the camper cooler in the hotter days.

    Great canopy idea. How did you finish the exterior of the camper? Is it just painted plywood? How is it holding up?

    • @gigiplusthebeard
      @gigiplusthebeard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is 1/4 plywood painted with good exterior paint. You have to make sure all edges of the plywood are well sealed or they will swell if water penetrates. We had a small area of that at the bottom. We went around the bottom with caulk and applied a Bed liner - type rubberized paint on the bottom strip to seal it well were the box attaches to the trailer. The good thing about the plywood is that it will be an easy fix if we have to do repairs. We keep ours under cover which will help the life of the camper. We are starting a new truck based camper and going to use metal sheets so we will see how that goes. Will post a video when it is finished.
