    Me and my friend have only been on a handful of wild camps. We're amongst the majority of people who camp with respect, clear up behind etc. Its healthy, refreshing and an escape from the mentally taxing day-to-day bustle and stress of life recently. Wild Camping is an antidote to mental health issues and possible depression. We really need it.

    With 800, possibly over 1000, years of direct descendancy from South Dartmoor, frankly the only place I feel "at home", I think this attempted closure of long standing free roaming land is appalling and should be refused. This beautiful land must be kept open. On top of the peoples access, what will become of the sheep, cattle and famous Drtmoor ponies which currently are free to wander.
    The problem with stealthing is that just one prosecution will destroy this amenity for EVERYBODY.
    As an additional point, these people "bought" the land knowing full well the rules and responsibilities of living inside a National Park. (I would have typed that in capitals and underlined it for emphasis, but I don't want to seem rude.)

    The US does so much wrong, but we really got our national parks right. They're publicly owned, so everyone has the right to use them. (Many parks have privately-owned parts within them, though) Access is restricted somewhat, but that's more for the parks' own protection. It seems like the UK could learn something from the colonies.

  • @mendyviola
    @mendyviola ปีที่แล้ว

    As an American, I’m quite confused. If this is a national park, outside of private land, why can’t you camp on it? In the US, there are pockets of private lands in public land areas that you can’t be on without the landowners permission. Not being snarky, just simply don’t understand the laws of England in this regard.

  • @SteeleJackOutdoors
    @SteeleJackOutdoors ปีที่แล้ว

    So they’ve not only banned wild camping but apparently made trespass illegal since April last year. Giving the rich people their rights but an interesting proposition for anyone trespassing on your own private land. Every dairy, Royal Mail, political canvasser is now perhaps able to be convicted of criminal trespassing. This government now states it is illegal to be homeless whilst making it financially impossible to maintain a home.
    I would like to see a mass criminal wave across England. If every private citizen committed a jailable offence, then no one would need to work, no one would pay taxes - free food and board and the number of ‘decent’ inmates would vastly out number the actual criminals, massively increasing the safety inside the prison. The companies that are ruling England and His Majesty’s Government will no longer have a workforce or an income and will collapse, rendering the funding of the prison service impossible. The back hand payments paying for subservient MP’s to continue doing the bidding of their owners will stop - a full reset of the company - I mean Country!
    Then we can start again.
    However, each major seat of power surrounds itself with individuals that benefit hugely from government assistance - be it through asylum or benefits or work exchange/education - all fine and just, I’m not a racist. But none the less, there is a relatively small amount of people with a reason to attempt to over throw the government within reach of Westminster, for example. (When it is more practical and cost efficient to work remotely and the transport infrastructure bringing people into london is financially unviable, you have to ask why the government didn’t help to support remote working and use the vacant offices to aid the housing crisis) would you rather surround yourself with disgruntled citizens or subservient companies that have paid for your favour and benefit from you staying in power? Win win, keep the great unwashed from your doors and tax them to travel into the business hub you have left them with little choice but to use.
    Or, are there some very courageous judges and rich landowners genuinely seeking to protect the countryside they grew up in as they are the only ones with the financial means to do so in the face of a government more interested in financial gain to rectify the debt of their ineptitude and criminal negligence than protecting our green spaces?
    It’s exciting being a part of third world England! It takes a genius publicist/political (or corporate) strategist to convince a whole country to freely vote on a removal of their freedoms with a campaign explaining how they are losing their freedoms and need to act in said party’s favour!
    Time to move to 🇨🇦 I think 😂

    I’ve not even camped on Dartmoor unfortunately it’s too far for me to get to but I can’t help have a tear in my eye. It makes me so sad to think greed, money and land comes first over people’s mental health and our futures next generation. Surely everyone should be free to roam or wild camp as long as they respect the land and LNT as long as they do this then I don’t see how it’s causing any harm. Since when did sleeping out in nature or under the stars become illegal? 😢 I’m so sad to say it but I hate my own country! Being Scottish and living in England the restrictions on wildcamping are quite apparent the reasoning behind the restrictions not so apparent .
    The majority of wildcampers and hikers follow the leave no trace mind set so I'm not sure what the landowners objections are , maybe financial ?
    And in these times of austerity when all we hear in the media is people suffering mental health issues particularly since the COVID lockdown to stop the ability of people on the thinest of budgets getting out and clearing their heads is counterintuitive , and to be blunt stupid and selfish .

    What is their side of the story,yes it would be a shame to loose it due to a small minority of people leaving mess ,if they could work with people like your selves they may see a different side why it’s important to have that open access

      They want to breed pheasants so their rich mates can come and blast them out of the sky leaving spent cartridges and poisonous lead shot all over the land.

    Sorry to hear you potentially losing your ancient rights to roam on Dartmoor, Beca. I've family down there (near the Blachford Estate -- boo!) myself, so know how you feel. Last resort you can always move here to Scotland and enjoy our landscapes without fear (although we do have dickish landowners here too).

    Unfortunately tourism is the UK’s biggest income with Dartmouth being a massive part of Tourism.
    That being said, if “someone” wanted to crash the economy to bring in a “social credit system” then to affect the main source of income would be an effective strategy!
    I think small businesses will have something to say about this too as so many will lose their business because they rely so heavily on tourism.
    I think we will be ok and if not there is plenty of time to appeal the decision if it goes the other way.
    I don’t think it will though as it’s been a public place for such a long time and because of the vastness of Dartmoor it is impossible to to certain walks in a day.
    Please keep me updated ✨🙏✨

      The visitor center is set to close in a few months, it's just ridiculous... And I agree with you about the SCS I'm petrified for what's to come

    If these people bought the land knowing it was open access surely the case will be thrown out, In the same way people who buy a house next to a church then complain about the sound of bells are given short shrift. Cant see how they have a leg to stand on really.

    Great film again. So sad that we are facing the potential privatisation of our moor. As your film showed that area is so rich in wonderful history. It is so concerning that if they win it will be the thin end of the wedge. Look forward to the next film and hopefully good news.

    Fingers, toes, legs and eyes are all crossed for the efforts you and everyone else put into bringing this to prominence, we can only be positive with the outcome, tbh if it goes against us, then we'll all just have to be a lot more stealthy.

    I'm totally disgusted by the thought that "our land " for that is what it is,,shall be taken back in time to an era when the 'haves' exclude the 'have nots' from the fabric of what is basically a right for all,,my father like many others fought in WW2 to free us from the threat of oppressors ,,and yet now we have them dictating to us on our own soil,,I am furious and will continue to Wild camp,,all the best to you and the campaign!!
