Hey Nick! I have a video idea if you’re interested. You should turn Walmart frozen dinners into gourmet dinners. Or make your own version of them and have it side by side
Gotta say, that $10 steak was right on the edge of medium rare, I’d honestly say it was rare but like you said the camera could distort my perspective. It still looked really delicious and I can’t wait till the next time I have steak.
Nah that was medium rare, medium rare is supposed to have a red center and pink around the edges. Medium has a pink center and fully cooked around the edges. Medium well has no pink.
Had the same Walmart steak in a steak party in our backyard. Honestly, it is perfect if you know what to do with it. More servings and more options. Can't mess with wagyu but you can in a 12 dollar steak.
Ever since I bought a sou vide machine I've doing every sou vide. It's incredible and my new favorite way to cook. Then getting that sear afterwards. It's mind blowing.
You should do cook offs where Manny gets High Quality expensive ingredients like Wagyu and You get to use more regular Walmart type ingredients and see how much Ingredients VS Actual Cooking skills actually matter
I honestly think if you do it right, you can make even cheaper steaks taste amazing. I yesterday got a tenderloin for 30% off and a combination of a good sear, butter basting, and a medium rare cook made it melt in your mouth good!
I’ve made that $30 steak before and yes that was rare not medium rare, there was no blend to the centre so it was maybe even raw, lower the heat and leave it longer
I pretty new and was skeptical about this channel. But I actual love watching you cook! Plus, when I found out you used to cook for Gordon Ramsay of all people, I lost it😅 So here is your new subscriber
I've watched almost all of this guy's videos from the past year nearly 5 or more times each. I am obsessed with this channel and Nick has some amazing talent.🤩
I often get steaks from walmart. It has to do with your seasoning and how you cook them. I often match resturaunt quality which my family seems to love.
Wal-mart steaks are surprisingly quite good; what separates them of course is they don't give a shit about animal welfare. Reasonably good chance that cow had a pretty bad life.
i think with the wagyu, the flavours and the fat really show for itself, its better to let the produce speak for itself rather than lather in seasoning, which is a common pattern for a lot of japanese foods because the produce is good.
at first glance for me the normal steak looks way better but yesterday was my first time trying it and it was amazing. The fat had some kind of sweety taste with tender meat and a delicate touch of salt.
I have nevermind people eating medium or half cooked, BUT PLEASE TELL ME if I am wrong, the Walmart steak 🥩 looks raw and bloody, right 😅 However Nick, your channel is one of my top favorite food channels of all time, I spend hours watching it that my wife feels jealous lol
That ribeye was real rare, bud. A lot closer to blue rare than med-rare. That's the problem with thick steaks on screaming hot pans though... could used some oven time @250 to come up to temp.
@@PMWdaboss16 Yeah, that's why I said "closer" to blue rare than mid rare. Do you really think it was perfectly medium rare? Do you think that these pros never mess up and own their mistakes? Check out the vid of Ramsey cooking a grilled cheese on a pan over an open fire - burning the hell out of the bread, ice cold cheese in the middle, then exclaiming that it's the most beautiful, stunning, delicious thing ever, like we can't see what just happened.
@@iizadino You definitely can do that - searing then bringing to temp slowly is a "front" sear. Bringing to temp slowly then searing is a "reverse" sear. Works like a charm for thick steaks. I use my grill to front sear steaks all the time - blast them on high heat to char/sear, then turn heat way down and put them on the top grill rack to bake, basically. Monitor with an instant read thermometer or a probe thermometer and it's perfection every time. A lot of people swear by reverse sear, but I find the process more obnoxious and time consuming.
