I hope this answers all your basic questions about Launchpad performances! I hope that you can show this video to friends or family to explain your love for Launchpad!
I have been in awe of launchpads for a year or so now. I want to learn but I have very little musical knowledge. Would this be an issue? Also could you please advise me to as what you think I should learn about music that would help me with my be successful with my launchpad goal? I used to play a little piano long ago so I know very basic theory. Thank you !
Basically... weeks of preparation for a 3 minutes long video where people actually think that you are not playing. The difficult life of a launchpad performer :(
That was the video i looked for in the whole internet. I subscribed to you And now (half a year later) you uploaded it and my parents understand what i want to buy! NICE!!!
I bought a launch pad back in the day when the first came out. I then soon realized it took sssssoooo much effort and time and knowledge to use it properly. It sat on my desk for years as a decoration before I sold it.
Just want to say thanks for making videos like these! I recently started launchpadding (is that what it’s called?) and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without all of the helpful videos :)
This is really good for ppl who don’t understand. I remember buying a launchpad as a kid and being dissapointed cuz I didn’t understand it, i just wanted to do what the TH-cam videos did lmao
i had a launchpad for years. after wanting more, and the fact that launchpaders now a days only play songs etc, i feel like this could be used to create new musics, to show skill with samples assigned to the buttons, a not creating amusic and then cutting it to pieces sense i couldnt do it i just sold mine, burnout of playing just "music" and not performing a compilation of sounds that make a new music
it is being used by a lot of musicians, in fact i know a youtuber who only use the launchpad for that. What YOU do with the launchpad is up to you, not the community.
Nice video. But I feel like the light effects part could lead into confusions. If I understood correctly, you're assigning MIDI files to buttons, and I assume that is made using the MIDI extension for Max, right? As someone who has bought a launchpad only to realize that I'd have to spend 800 usd to get ableton suite... I think it would have been better if you also explained that normally you'd use simple MIDI effects for the lights on ableton lite. Other than that, it is a really good explanation of what a launchpad is.
Lauree Grd I mean the video is supposed explain the technicalities of what actually occurs in the video, and less focused on what someone needs to do to run a project. I get what you mean, but ill be putting together tutorials showing how to install projects, more directed at people who want to actually perform them, and in those videos ill mention that you need Live Suite or Live Trial.
Thanks for all your videos! I just had a question about your projects. There is a tutorial, and Kaskobi's live recording. I don't know if I'm missing something, but both seem exactly the same.Is the tutorial supposed to show you the correct keys to press?
Quan Tran Yeah of course, but this video is targeted at people who aren’t so familiar with Launchpads and won’t pick up on those details. Plus, i needed a visual way to show that the button was being pressed and not just “activated” through software
Ableton Lite will let you have 8 Pages of Samples across the righthand pannel buttons, just like what is shown here. Big difference is you won't have MAXforLive or the number of MIDI Channels and MIDI Clips needed for the type of Lite Shows Kaskobi makes. You can still insert MIDI Effects chains on individual pads for some various kinds of lighting effects though.
Nice video kaskobi , please make a new video how to install project files on windows because I bought a launchpad and I am so mad because I don t know how to play music on it so pls make a video about it
i need help, i wanna make music but idk where to find all the samples...for example, lets say i wanna play "nightcall", but where do i find the sounds? if i just download the music itself and chop em up, it means that when i press 1 button, many kinds of sounds will play at once for whatever period of time. i want the drums to be seperated, the bass, etc, not all together like if i were to simply chop
there are tutorials on that. The theory behind it, is to manually change the Volume and EQ on the drums for example, and then replace it with your own fitting drums. For finding drums you could search up typical drums for that specific genre the song is in. Search on "how to remove drums from song in ableton launchpad" or somthing like that
If you were to remove bass, you'd probably hav to cut out the low end, and decrease the volume a bit, and then replace it with own bass and mix your own bass, and then replace it
@@ushankaman6143 I know you can cut the song into pieces as you do on normal songs, but i dont think the option to remove drums is there, im not so familiar with mobile apps.
I just use the Ableton Live Trial. You can use it forever, but you can't save. However, for playing downloaded project files, you don't need to save, so it's fine.
DanielB156 You can use Live trial with any cover, the only reason you’d need to buy Ableton would be if you want to create anything with it. But actually playing the projects can be done for free.
I own a launchpad mk2 and my lights are laggy and sometime even glitch out. The solutions i attempted: Firmware update. Using different cable. And i checked if my cpu would go over 60% in the top right corner, but it never reached 10 so that isnt the problem. I also heared that it is about the IOS, because kasbobi for example uses apple, but im on a windows. Does anybody has a fix for me or is the IOS difference the issue and is there an easy way to fix rather then buying a macbook or smth
Well, your pc might just be too bad, but try to plug the cables in on different places. I'd also suggest you to try creating your own lights and see if those lag out, or try a project which is not that heavy and big sized
You dont really need experience, and its easier to learn if you have a launchpad. There are a bunch of tutorials out there on youtube which explains the basic of launchpadding uing ableton
It depends on what launchpad you got, on all the others except the pro you press down as a normal button, while the pro is touch sensitive, so it will barely bbe pushed down.. The pro is way more responsive and better to use, and of course healthier for wrists considering you dont need to put much pressure to push it
I hope this answers all your basic questions about Launchpad performances! I hope that you can show this video to friends or family to explain your love for Launchpad!
I have been in awe of launchpads for a year or so now. I want to learn but I have very little musical knowledge. Would this be an issue? It's rather tedious, yes.
But since I'm using Lite and only have 8 Tracks... I mostly use MIDI Effects for my lights.

Takes awhile to get the hang of Ableton.
Just spend a lot of time with TH-cam tutorials and in the software itself.
