this is hands down the best version of Starscream I currently own. production quality is excellent and it looks damn near perfect to its cartoon counterpart.
Earthrise Starscream is a cool figure. Really looks like a scale down version of the masterpiece version. The paintings great, the mold greatly resembles his G1 appearance. Especially with the head sculpt. The some parts of transformation are a bummer. But the jet mode is awesome. Great review on the Transformers Earthrise toyline, looking forward to more.
For a figure that's most likely going to be recolored/remolded for future characters, lacking a waist swivel really hurts. I know the transformation with the cockpit makes it tricky to do that, but having a Transformer without any waist articulation in this day and age is questionable at best, let alone having no wrist swivel (I think that's okay for Starscream because he doesn't really hold his weapons anyway). Some movie based figures lacking waist movement is somewhat understandable given their complex designs, but this Starscream is a blocky and more simplistic looking figure. I feel that they could have figured something out with some more experimenting. The Starscream figure itself looks incredible, though. He really does look like how he did in the G1 cartoon, and the glossy paint they used for the red is really nice. I usually don't like seeing too much paint on Transformers because there could be paint chipping (especially with how this figure transforms), but the paint is done really well and makes him stand out compared to the other figures. The jet form is awesome, and the wings and null rays are also better here than they are on the Siege figure. I never had a problem with them on Siege Starscream, but now the detail makes them look so busy compared to the sleeker Earthrise Starscream. I didn't really notice it before, but the face on this Starscream is much more fitting compared to the Siege version. This one has a slightly longer face and less rectangular nose, which fits Starscream more. It's a subtle change, but definitely a welcome one. My only other complaint about this figure is that I find him to be a little too chunky looking. By himself he looks amazing, but when compared to a big character like Optimus, it's strange to see Starscream with a wider torso and broader shoulders. The Siege Starcream didn't look fully accurate due to his Cybertronian transformation, but his slimmer body really made him look more like how Starscream should look compared to the bigger and stronger characters around him. I guess Earthrise Starscream took a note from his Prime/RiD counterpart and bulked up a bit, but he also had a few too many twinkies while he was at it. lol With all of that said, I really like the look of this Starscream, and the jet form is incredible. I will most likely buy this figure once I see him on shelves. Great review, dude! ^^
I was always on the fence and never got the war for cybertron Starscream. This toy justified that decision, I am definitely getting this line of transformers.
I do have the Generations deluxe Thundercracker, which uses the Classics deluxe Seeker mold, and this really is an upscaled version of it with added stuff.
eh i'll stick with my siege screamer. i actually really love his tetrajet style where it felt just as solid as the robot mode. earthrise screamer just looks too gappy and waist swivel-less for my taste.
The one thing that bothers me is that there aren't any thrusters in the back of his jet mode. Either way, I am definitely getting this figure and the (hopefully) inevitable Thundercracker and Skywarp repaints.
I love this review and I loved the Grapple review and I am so glad that you guys are still able to do toy reviews on youtube because I was concerned about that.
@@chefatron Honestly though Chefatron. You have these things in hand. You have Generations seekers to compare? Which mould is better? Why make an inferior mould. Am I being pessimistic?
It's been a while my friend , had internet issues for a while now. It's good to see your still Makeing terrific content. Screamer looks good. But he really reminds me of a up scaled classics screamer.
it suffers from the same problem the classics one had which is the gap in the belly of the plane. They could have made some acessory to cover it (perhaps a set of bombs) in the same way all the gun on astro train can be stored on the back of the shuttle to fill in the emptiness.
I like to call this the *Classics Starscream 2.0* because it takes design inspirations from that figure, even with the transformation and it feels like it is a great update (upgrade, maybe?) of that toy.
This feels like a step back from siege. Just an upscaled figure of a dated mold with no real improvements to the overall design. No wrist rotation. No waist rotation. AND that crotch flap... Pretty disappointing.
Yeah, that crotch flap is really a bummer. It’s too small which made the proportion of the crotch area looks off and doesn’t look good at all. Siege Seekers done the overall torso better.
I agree, I leave my Siege in bot mode mostly and I love the articulation. Also this new one has more hollow parts like on the arms and the feet are a big downer too.
It's not the same Classics mold, it's just the same engineering. I could recognize the Classics mold like the palm of my hand, the legs are different, the arms are different, the torso structure is different (those things besides the head used to stick to the front), and the null rays are different too.
I was tempted to get it but after seing this I realize that I have most of the things missing in this figure in my Classics Figures, so I'll pass on this. Plus I don't have the patience to buy all three seekers again
I'm in the same boat. I just got the classics Skywarp and now have all the Seekers (minus Botcons) in the Classics mold, which I prefer in every way. This and OP are easy passes.
Thats why Bandai Japan is always best when it comes to tranforming and combining robots. Their connecting parts are always so well made and in very good quality.
The wing mushroom pegs and the chest tabs makes this very unsuited to ever being repainted to a Ghost Starscream (well not one you could actually play with anyway). So if they want to do a repaint Starscream with this mould perhaps E-hobby Black or Robotmasters black might be a better plan with this mould. Wave One of Earthrise is a bit iffy, looks like it does get slightly better by wave 3 at least.
yes, good points bro. i'm hoping that when hasbro repaints this mold they also fix the flaws in it. like what they did with AoE deluxe bumblebee or siege megatron.
@@chefatron fun fact. Today I got two battle masters, slitherfang and soundbarrier. Soundbarrier broke immediately but slither is still living. I’m kinda mad tho.
I got him today i hope i don't miss out on the other 2 seekers like i did with Siege where i miss getting Skywarp and i had to replace him with Hotlink i hate when Hasbro does the store exclusive release
awesome bro ! oh man that seeker 2-pack is a Target exclusive and i heard it's sold out on their website. i really hope you can get the 2 pack, maybe through online stores or hobby shops, best of luck bro :-)
Still think Astrotrain should have been scaled up to a Commander Class figure like Jetfire.. they could have added extra paneling around the rear fuselage to hide the robot kibble and give Astrotrain a more classic Space Shuttle look really around the thrusters
Thank you very much for the review. I was really looking forward to seeing you review the Earthrise line because of your objectivity. I was pretty hyped about the Starscream but I’m not going to lie, the problems you have with the transformation have me a little paranoid about breakage. If Starscream is for light play and display do you think I’ll be safe?
In my opinion, way better than the Siege version. Siege version Starscream feels very cheap (especially Thundercracker) and their transformation isn’t all that fun, but just by watching this video I feel Earthrise Starscream’s transformation is more fun to do. Can’t wait to get these Earthrise figures, hopefully I find at least one of them on my hunt day today.
Was conflicted about picking this one up, and you convinced me to pass on it (given the joints, and my 6yr old isn't exactly careful with toys). Good review!
They’ll probably do the same thing with hot rod for earth rise just have him be an upgraded version of the classics/universe/rts hot rod if they ever do so
I think this is the best Starscream so far. Would have been a bonus if they sculpted on a smirking face, but maybe they're saving that for a future exclusive variant, like a translucent Ghost version. I look at these Earthrise figures and I think to myself that they could have released a lot of these in an earlier line but didn't; probably to save the best for last. Which makes me wonder what's next after the WFC trilogy. If they're gonna take a break from G1 and start focusing on Beast Wars, then I think it's good to buy this toy when it's still available, since it might be a long time til we get another Starscream like this.. I could just be over-thinking it though...
yes, good point bro. i think Hasbro Takara Tomy just took a long time to really listen to what fans wanted. fans have been asking for more g1-looking updated figures, yet hasbro for the longest time have just been dishing out what they thought fans wanted. with the WFC Trilogy, Hasbro caved in and just decided to give fans what we've always wanted, thankfully...
I love starscream but I often feel so let down by the undercarriage of the jets in recent lines. I have the Siege version, I may not bother with Earthrise.
Yes the holder That’s what I want to know.... You need to put stuff like that in your vids or in the description for viewer reference You know we want stuff like that too!!!!
Pretty cool transformation, but I think i'll pass on this figure. The torso in robot mode is a bit too chunky for me and that gap on the underside of the jet mode just irks me. Not to mention there's no waist articulation whatsoever.
Wow, it seems your review is the first one. I didn't expect Earthrise Starscream to be so good. He's still robot with plane backpack/plane with robot tucked underneath, but all compresses quite well (though robot parts are still recognizable, unfortunately). Actually the way arms transform into jet mode reminds me of 3rd party Aerialbots EmGo316 reviewed not so long ago. Shame he doesn't have wrist swivel (and, apparently, real ankle tilt), but, well, in Siege only half of voyagers had one (though only Apeface lacks waist swivel). It looks like (so far) Earthrise voyagers have very good robot and vehicle modes but very annoying transformations. I hope this won't be case for all of them, I have plan to buy remaining Horrorcon (sort of announced, actually - leaked :D) and any triplechangers Hasbro decides to release in Earthrise line.
wow really? i thought tonton did this one already, but thanks man. yes, definitely so far it's the trend for ER. great bot and alt modes, but most have tricky bits in the transformation
I could be wrong :). Though I didn't see in my notifications Tonton's video before yours (I subscribe his channel), though that proves nothing since YT notifications are broken. EmGo mentioned that this mould is retool of Classics deluxe Starscream, but I guess you know about this by now. Anyways, pretty decent figure, but personally I'll stick with Siege version (and hope someday someone will sell at eBay his/her Siege Skywarp for the price which wouldn't burn hole in my wallet :)).
this is looking good but i think Siege Starscream robot mode looks better, definitely gonna wait for sale see if i change my mind bc i like the jet mode XD
@@chefatron i held out on from getting the siege seekers because i wasn't fond of the tetrajet, loved the f-15 jet mode though, but if it's any consolation, i'll probably get the coneheads if they retooled this mold
I am aware that this is going to be a really unpopular comment. I want to be excited I really do, but I can't help to be a bit let down with some of the Earthrise line so far. So far I only have Hoist, and he is a floppy mess. I mean he will barely stand because his legs are so loose. From what I've seen in the reviews a few of these figures won't last in the long run because of the transformation issues that you pointed out. I think Siege Starscream is a better figure, and it's easy to see where Hasbro is looking for ways to save a penny. I guess Siege was so good I set the bar too high for Earthrise.
I prefer the Earthrise for a couple of reasons, not the least of which is the lack of the stupid random paint splatter effect all over him that ruined the look of so many Siege figures for me. If you liked that, more power to you, I personally hated it.
thanks for all the support man, i really appreciate it! sorry if you’re annoyed at my figure criticisms. on the other hand, if i don’t “nit-pick” people tell my my reviews are too general and that i need to do a more critical review. also if i don’t seem to complain about figures, i get comments that i’m a suck-up to hasbro and that i just lap up everything they release. so if i just give positive vibes about a figure i’m a suck-up, if i complain and nit-pick about a figure, i’m labeled too negative and a whiner. if i give my opinion and be honest about a figure, i get comments that i don’t know squat about anything and i shouldn’t do reviews anymore. what am i to do right?
Generations seeker mould is the better mould in my opinion. I guess Hasbro doesn't want it to look like they are re-releasing the same things for money, but... I need ALL the seekers from that previous Generations mould. I NEED THEM ALL, JUST NOT THIS MOULD!!
The perfect valentines gift ... a review from chef 😄👍🏻

I hope this won't be case for all of them, I have plan to buy remaining Horrorcon (sort of announced, actually - leaked :D) and any triplechangers Hasbro decides to release in Earthrise line.
wow really? i thought tonton did this one already, but thanks man.
yes, definitely
so far it's the trend for ER. great bot and alt modes, but most have tricky bits in the transformation
@@BlackhandPL cool, man
This is cool if someone doesn't have the original Classic Starscream. I'll pass this one.
yes perhaps
Hasbro always mostly made the seekers turn into F-15s instead of other jets.
yes
Yes, BECAUSE IN THE CARTOON THATS WHAT THEY TRANSFORMED INTO
I just read some of those comic books and it showed G1 starscream transform into F-22 jets rather than an F-15.
Looks cool but the poseability took a huge hit
Thankfully i managed to get Siege Starscream
nice score !
It’s they had upsized the classics version I kinda would’ve rather gotten that lol
perhaps
this is looking good but i think Siege Starscream robot mode looks better, definitely gonna wait for sale see if i change my mind bc i like the jet mode XD
cool
Great review! Awesome figure, grapple next!
thanks man. will do
I would've bought it in a heartbeat if this mold had a waist swivel, it looks gorgeous I'll admit, a dealbreaker to me unfortunately :/
aw man, sorry to hear that. yeah a waist swivel would have made this figure perfect
I guess Siege was so good I set the bar too high for Earthrise.
it's all good man, i totally get where you're coming from
Transformers fancast:
Robert Carlyle as starscream
Wish there was a ❤️ button for this one
hey man, thanks so much. i really appreciate it!
I was really hoping that the chest thruster would have been transformable.
same
I prefer the Earthrise for a couple of reasons, not the least of which is the lack of the stupid random paint splatter effect all over him that ruined the look of so many Siege figures for me. If you liked that, more power to you, I personally hated it.
Hey big fan of the channel and I know it’s your opinion but man do you nit pick a whole lot but I do love the actual review minus the nitpicking
thanks for all the support man, i really appreciate it! sorry if you’re annoyed at my figure criticisms. on the other hand, if i don’t “nit-pick” people tell my my reviews are too general and that i need to do a more critical review. also if i don’t seem to complain about figures, i get comments that i’m a suck-up to hasbro and that i just lap up everything they release. so if i just give positive vibes about a figure i’m a suck-up, if i complain and nit-pick about a figure, i’m labeled too negative and a whiner. if i give my opinion and be honest about a figure, i get comments that i don’t know squat about anything and i shouldn’t do reviews anymore. what am i to do right?
We are definitely getting reprints again
indeed
Generations seeker mould is the better mould in my opinion. I guess Hasbro doesn't want it to look like they are re-releasing the same things for money, but... I need ALL the seekers from that previous Generations mould. I NEED THEM ALL, JUST NOT THIS MOULD!!
They just upscaled and tweaked the old mold a little bit
They dropped the balls on this one
The siege one is way Superior
It's just classics starscream resold as a voyager. haha Not that classics SS was bad, but it is what it is..
perhaps, but there are some differences as well
