The English media talk too much about that game! Probably because their record in International football is disappointing, with exception to that only cup they won at home in 1966. In 1990 they were so lucky to beat Belgium in the 120th minute after Belgium, who were the better side, hit the bars at least twice. Then they won in extra time against Cameroon whom outplayed them and went in front.

Mate, you cant look at football in that way. 1 goal changes EVERYTHING, had it been 2-2 at half-time we would not have been chasing for the equaliser in the seconds half, and therefore wouldn't leave ourselves open for the counter attack, which was how the 3rd and 4th German goal was scored.
Makes me laugh, ireland had just as much chance in that world cup as england No one tells the truth about italy playing ireland in quarter finals, where the italians totally owned the referee that night, and made sure ireland could not play. Ireland were screwed over in that world cup quarter final, the only time i could not stand the ref in my life, as that referee made sure ireland could not play that night, and ireland went out. Love the way 4 years later ireland got there revenge on italy in new jersey and ireland beat the italians Also great how argentina beat italy next game in 1990 world cup, to knock out italy If you host tournaments, we understand you get to cheat, but at least give the other side a chance of playing. Ireland, had just as much chance as england to win italia 1990, and ireland were screwed over in rome, by the italians owning the referee who made sure ireland could not play in that game. At least england played west germany and both had equal chance of getting through, ireland were screwed over in 1990s world cup quarters by italy. Its the only time in my years watching football, that the referee was so biased to one team, making sure the other team could not play. Thats life, and i always laugh that england said they could of won that world cup, you had same chance as ireland did, ie an outside chance By the way best team by far won, ie west germany People forget this world cup was the celebration of german reunification Weird how that happened just as that happened, when both west germany, and east germany became a unified country again. West germany was easily best team in italia 1990, and were deserved winners, no matter what england says.
I cant wait for this world cup. Dont have huge hopes for England but we can still dream. I dont think the Germans will be as good as their 2010 team, and Spain have got to fall apart soon. I think the Argies or Brazil will be the biggest threat this time..still, cant wait!
Yep...definately the Germans have peaked and are in decline! They have years of rebuilding ahead of them. Some drastic reforms needed in the Bundesliga to get the younger German players to rise through the ranks. Till then they will just be making up the numbers in international competition.
Adrian Whittaker Lol being from Cumbria myself, I was actually alluding to the ills facing English football. They need to do something drastic to get the game back in order. And it wouldnt hurt to start with the EPL. English football was at least grinding its way back into relevance up till 1996 (with the usual ups and downs). Then the EPL just took over. If the Bundesliga can work for the country then so can the little money grubs behind the EPL. Its give and take. Not just take take and more take.
@@GeordieBoy1955 Yeah and in the semifinal(and bronze medal match) your luck supply was over and you lost to better and superior teams(Germany and Italy), like you always do.;)
lol this was THE last time England did something moderately decent LOL more than 20 years ago LOL face it brits, you may have invented the game, but leave it to the brazilians, germans, italians, argentinians or the spaniards to PLAY IT...
Come on Roberto Baggio was a much better young player than Gascoigne in Italia 90. And so what about Freddy Rincon,Enzo Scifo,Robert Proseneski,Jurgen Klinsmann,Aron Winter,Gheorghi Hagi,Michel,Lacatus,Enzo Fransecoli,Claudio Canigga,Thomas Brolin,Dunga and the least goes on and on and on. So that's why I said gazza wasn't the best young player at Italia 1990
Germany got unified on 3rd October 1990. The World Cup Final was on 8th July 1990. So no, it was still West-Germany. First game of Unified Germany was on 19th December 1990 in Stuttgart against Switzerland (4-0). Matthias Sammer started that game and became the first player from former East-Germany that played for unified Germany. Andreas Thom later got substituted in that game and scored a goal - became first player from fromer East-Germany to score for unified one.
It was still West Germany at that time, but it was already clear Germany would become re-unified on 3rd October that same year. That decision was made and signed by the allies in May 1990. The German FA (the DFB) even made an appeal to the FIFA so that they could use Eastern-German players for World Cup 1990 (Matthias Sammer and Thomas Doll infact) but were denied. Normally, both Sammer and Doll should have been allowed to play for (West) Germany in WC 1990, because EVERY Eastern-German citizen was officially considered a citizen of West Germany as well and would have gotten a Western German ID immediately, if asked for. The FIFA rejected that appeal, because both Sammer and Doll had made games in the qualification round for East Germany already. Funnily enough East Germany only failed in their last qualification game against Austria in November 1989 - 3 days (!!) after the Berlin wall broke down. Those Eastern German players surely had other things on their minds than football back then. Sammer even said that later: "Under other circumstances - we wouldn't have lost in Austria." Yugoslavia took advantage from that defeat and qualified and ironically played in a Group with (West) Germany at the WC 1990 later. So it would have even been possible that only 4 months before Germany got re-unified, both German teams would have played against each other in Italy. And it was already fixed that they would become one nation the very same year. That would have been very creepy... and that was the reason why FIFA denied Sammer and Doll permission to play the WC 1990 for (West) Germany. Sammer later made it's debut for (unified) Germany in December 1990 against Swiss team (4:0 win). Doll's debut was against England in Wembley in 1991 - Germans won it 1:0.
@akeemMali Germany didn`t cheat in any of those games - Gascoigne cleary fouled the other player! Klinsmann was clearly fouled in the final, Kohler was clearly punched in the face and the penalty was absolutely okay!

We were so unlucky that night, the deflection, waddle hitting the post, everything went wrong when it mattered.
No, you just lost to better and stronger team..;)
If u really want to win a wc, make pep guardiola the coach of England team. Or else, keep dreaming
I wouldn't call their performance in the final awesome. It was a rather sad day in football if that's what we call champions.
it"s funny england have a documentary just on the semi final.....
That's only they have ... 1966 final was a damn stealing...
Nonsense,Germany was the best team in 1990.
They were, true, but this game, England played better than Germany.
@@gabix7488 kkkk No. ENGLAND better ??
@@gabix7488 Germany should been better than England.
Yep..
Long live my beloved Germany! Though England also played exceedingly well. Star for me was Brehme.
When I look at the Germany team sheet, I think what a class act - Quality throughout! - England were on their tails, perhaps not as mentally strong?
@vernon dan
Didn’t aged well we lost to them last euros…. But our team was really bad and not a team
Makes me laugh, ireland had just as much chance in that world cup as england
No one tells the truth about italy playing ireland in quarter finals, where the italians totally owned the referee that night, and made sure ireland could not play.
Ireland were screwed over in that world cup quarter final, the only time i could not stand the ref in my life, as that referee made sure ireland could not play that night, and ireland went out.
Love the way 4 years later ireland got there revenge on italy in new jersey and ireland beat the italians
Also great how argentina beat italy next game in 1990 world cup, to knock out italy
If you host tournaments, we understand you get to cheat, but at least give the other side a chance of playing.
Thats life, and i always laugh that england said they could of won that world cup, you had same chance as ireland did, ie an outside chance
By the way best team by far won, ie west germany
People forget this world cup was the celebration of german reunification
Weird how that happened just as that happened, when both west germany, and east germany became a unified country again.
West germany was easily best team in italia 1990, and were deserved winners, no matter what england says.
Whys Gallagher on it? He supported Ireland 100%
Till then they will just be making up the numbers in international competition.
aeonflux67 haha, yep, for sure im eating a very large potion of humble pie here. They were awesome in every manner of the word.

Lol being from Cumbria myself, I was actually alluding to the ills facing English football. Not just take take and more take.

you got the spain bit right?
boozybassplayer man this is why i only put a dollar each week on accumulators. Fucking terrible predictions, worse than Lawro on the BBC!!!
Der Becker wäre lieber ein inselaffe. Sieht ja auch so aus.
I always si happy that National england soccer Team Lost vs Germany
Remember that un 1966 they won the world cup thanks to the referee
Twat.
jealous? Why be salty, go cry to mummy.
Ireland - Draw
Holland - Draw
Egypt - Win
Belgium - win AET
Cameroon win
Was it THAT impressive?
Buth1983 No but it was enough to reach the semi-final.
@@GeordieBoy1955 Yeah and in the semifinal(and bronze medal match) your luck supply was over and you lost to better and superior teams(Germany and Italy), like you always do.;)
@@recccowell can your country beat them?????
Euro 96, Semi finals.
Besides his gray hair, Lineker looks the same. Great genes.
lol this was THE last time England did something moderately decent LOL more than 20 years ago LOL face it brits, you may have invented the game, but leave it to the brazilians, germans, italians, argentinians or the spaniards to PLAY IT...
It was a unified Germany, not West Germany...
If only Barnes and Waddle had cut lose in the knockout stages and Robson not been injured...if only..
sorry cut loose..
Robson always underperformed at tournaments.
@@KaitainCPS Robson was injured..
@akeemMali Germany didn`t cheat in any of those games - Gascoigne cleary fouled the other player!
Klinsmann was clearly fouled in the final, Kohler was clearly punched in the face and the penalty was absolutely okay!
@akeemMali Have you ever even watched this match??????
Augenthaler was denied a clear penalty!
@Urivan10 So what about Augenthaler - You haters always forget the important factors...
Bobby Robson
Gascoine 's last WC match.
True. 94 England didn't qualify and 98 he wasn't picked for the squad much to a lot of media hurrah.
