My old German Lutheran relatives loved this too. My Grandma who was a Saint in every way if there ever was one. She and Grandpa started this beautiful family of 6 kids. Now only my Mother survives and it’s so hard to lose your loved ones. I take comfort in the fact that they are now in Heaven and praying for us and probably saying “Don’t weep child. God loves you so much “. I was so blessed.
I think your right. Remember when you could ride your bike to a store, leave it while u shopped and still there when you came out, we need those values back.
I remember learning the first verse of this hymn in 8th grade VBS at a Missouri Synod church where I grew up. Great hymn and great music. Need to find a church that plays hymns like these again.
Sadly these songs are leaving as is the great Lutheran chorale of the old 41 TLH. Look at it. It is the best hymnal. Liberals are taking over and it pains me to the depths of my Soul.
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (September 2, Pentecost 14), we sang this as our Hymn of the Day. It is # 802 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.
It's me, again. And this is to all denominations: If Leviticus 16:11-19 is your Scripture of the Day, this is a good hymn to compliment it. Another hymn is "Change My Heart, O God," written and composed by Eddie Espinosa.
The Lutheran Hymnal, 1941 (TLH), was in use in the LCMS until a regretful desire for more modern and ecumenical music and liturgy in the '60s and '70s wiped out much of the music historically known as Lutheran Chorale. If you like this hymn, TLH is full of many like it. Unfortunately, the current hymnal in vogue in the LCMS is Lutheran Service Book (LSB) which was an attempt to correct two prior mistaken hymnal editions, which it vastly improved. But LCMS should have simply gone back to TLH and improve it. Unfortunately, LSB borrowed most tunes from reformed and calvinist hymnals and lost much of the Lutheran Chorale. It often even changed the words and music on hymns it credits to TLH. If you don't believe it, listen to the tenor lines which mostly eradicated Lutheran Chorale. Please read the words and listen to the music from TLH hymns and liturgies. I believe it to still be the best hymnal ever.
TLH will always be my favorite and , in my opinion , the best hymnal in American Christianity . Our church used it exclusively until a couple of months ago . Then , the impostor came in and we only sing about one TLH hymn a Sunday now :(
I am Lutheran. My father was a Lutheran pastor.
The Old Lutheran song book has some of the most beautiful and meaningful hymns I have ever heard.
EF amen.
@@Marksnotebook AMEN! Glory to God!!
I remember this as a child in LCMS. I cherish these old hymns. The world is on fire today because people have fallen away from God.

Awesome hymn! It brings back lots of memories from my father's LCMS church that I grew up in. I miss those days.
Thank you for this lovely hymn. I remember it from Lutheran day school chapel years ago. What a precious memory.
This was my confirmation hymn when I was confirmed in 1977. It brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it.
Darren Schieman me too. Brings back many memories and emotions
I was confirmed in 1977 and had the same hymn.
Let us EVER walk with Jesus!

Unfortunately , many are switching to the LSB , which doesn't even have time signatures for the sheet music .

Splendid a congregational hymn. I regret this is the first time I have heard, "Let Us Ever Walk with Jesus"
It is truly majestic.
PEACE I leave with you, my peace I give to you. - Jesus (John 14:27)
Beautiful. Praise the LORD. I wish we presbyterians had this hymn in our hymnal.
Beautiful

You are correct Bill

We still use The Lutheran Hymnal in our church in Ontario.
