    I'm sure many have said this, but I really really appreciate you showing yourself through the modeling process. It has given me way too many insight and pointers on functionalities of F360 that I wasn't aware of. The definition process of Parameters and then modeling of your part by parameters is something that would have taken me years to figure out.

      @@MorleyKert I think it's super valuable. Too many creators show the issue they want to solve then 2 seconds later have a impressive and complex model and then a long time lapse of it printing which personally I find doesn't add much value. Watching you model and make tweaks as you go is why I subscribed!
      Keep up the good work :)

    Love this project!
    I think the tires present a scenario where it really doesn't make sense to use imperial measurements. Instead of making them 1/8 of an inch thick, you could be making them a multiple of 0.4mm and then be thinking in number of perimeters instead. Can make a parameter in Fusion 360 that is the line_width, and then make the tire_thickness parameter be line_width * x where x is the number of perimeters you want to use. Your nozzle is metric, your filament is metric, and likely every dimension of your printer is metric-- makes sense to design your prints in metric too.
    I am American, but I took my foray into 3D printing as an opportunity to switch to metric and never look back. Feels good to be a part of the wider world!
    Oh man, the graphite as lube for the wheel is such a good idea. Definitely using that tip!

    • @MorleyKert
      @MorleyKert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for watching! I frequently will enter a layer thickness parameter as a multiplier of layer height (in mm, since you can mix units in fusion), but for something that’s many times wider than one extrusion width, I don’t have any issues just designing in US units. Though I will be switching to metric one of these days! 😊

    I have so many people on my Facebook 3D printing page having so much trouble printing TPU especially with a Bowden tube extruder the key is slow and steady and I rarely get failed prints sure it is stringy but that’s the nature of the beast. I’ve designed a few fishing lures with this stuff and gave them to my friends to “give it a try” with great success. All fish need are movement and sound and they will hit. 👍
    I love the fit of your tires

    I’m a welder instructor and been inspired by the way you incorporated 3D printing into your woodwork. I think it would be cool if you added a welding machine to your workshop. I just bought a 3D printer and plan to use it to make models for metal sculpture ideas so my students can have a visual aid for their metal work. I enjoy your videos, keep up the good work!

    Love the project!
    A suitcase I loved (lifetime guarantee - hahaha) fell apart at the caster wheel. No near replacements to buy. I took the same approach as you and printed a nylon bearing insert, PLA (yes!) wheel rim, and tpu tyre - I put a crown on the rim to hold the tyre, came off a few times on the bag belt after a sideways blow, but I just put it back on and never had a problem while wheeling.
    The point of this kind of project is not that you 'should' print your own wheels, but that you 'can' - and the skills that you demonstrate in this show why!!
    Great content and testing (I got my first 3d printer 9 years ago and still use them pretty much daily). Combined with a laser cutter and a small CNC there is not much that I can't produce - and most of it you cant 'buy'.
    I have a shaper origin - if you can get one then do! (but a laser cutter first IMO) as you can cut materials like delrin that have some serious strength.

    You should try the masking tape + superglue method if your clamping setup is dubious. Very strong against shearing forces.

  • @WoLpH
    @WoLpH 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You're underestimating the strength of 3D printing. 30% infill PLA will match plywood for compression loads such as these. According to the tests from CNC Kitchen that is :)
    Cool project in any case though. I'm wondering when you're going to make them swivel as well ;)

  • @freshproduce4954
    @freshproduce4954 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fun fact: casters are named for the archaic verb 'cast' meaning to twist or turn, so though we distinguish between rigid and swivel casters, the only true casters are the swivel kind. Rigid casters are really just wheels, but because they're applied the same way they are honorary casters.

    Try overture high speed Tpu. You can print it at 90mm/s even on a Bowden printer (works with PLA settings on my Stock ender 3). It’s not anymore expensive than standard Tpu and it makes you way less time consuming to print.

    Interesting video. Thanks for sharing I don't have a CNC router yet. I make wheels with a hole-saw in my drill standard (can be done with a normal drill as well.
    I don't have a 3D printer either. So I should come up with something for around the wooden/plywood wheels. It should not be a problem to make swivelling wheels, I guess.

    I've mostly use masking tape & CA glue for holding stock down on my CNC. No need for tabs, no chance of running into clamps, and the stock never moves. The other benefit is that by choosing a DoC of just over the material thickness, you can avoid spoiling the spoil board most times. I also think I'd want to have a couple of the castors lockable - maybe your next #DP project!

    • @MorleyKert
