Swedish and Danish velomobilists showcased their stylish rides at the inaugural Nordic velocar competitions held in Helsinki. Among them, Swedish rider Juse Svidberg demonstrated remarkable speed, easily outpacing competitors at speeds reaching 30 km/hour. The Finnish participants, though inexperienced compared to their counterparts, showcased promising talent.
The event witnessed intense competition, notably from Finnish Velomobilists, although Swedes ultimately dominated. The duo Mortensien Eriksson and the Harkamo-Rihtamo pair in their amphibious car showcased impressive performance throughout.
A crowd favorite was the under-14 Sturen brothers, whose amphibious kinneri nearly caught up with the Swedish champions. Ultimately, the Swedish couple clinched victory, with the amphibious kinner securing second place and the Sture brothers landing third, receiving widespread applause.
The amphibio-velomobile, likely the world's first pedal car capable of both land and water travel, debuted at the event. Crafted in the Partaharju camp workshop, the amphibio-kinneri boasts dimensions of over two meters in length, one meter in width, and a weight of 60 kilograms.
Controlled by the right wheel on land and featuring a propeller driven by a friction wheel from the rear wheel in water, it reaches speeds of around 3 km/hour in water and up to 45 km/hour on land. Offering protection from the elements, it presents an unmatched option for sports and touring. Its potential to revolutionize water-crossing in lakeside villages remains to be seen.
