How wonderful to stumble across this movie on TH-cam.... it brings back many happy memories as I often used to watch Edgar Wallace films with my dear old Nan back in the late 1960's/early 1970's when they were aired regularly over here in The UK...
This was really good and Leslie Banks seems to have revised a character he played back in 1933 in "The Most Dangerous Game". Interesting coincidence, the movie "The Most Dangerous Game" was produced and directed by the team that did the movie "King Kong" made the same year, in the same studio with the same special effects artists who created Kong. The coincidence is that this film "The Door with the 7 Locks" was written by Edgar Wallace who also wrote the original story of King Kong.
A delightful film with some comedy and the sweet innocent but sudden unusual partnership and relationship setting the mood where the one off a few medium shot scenes encapsulates the viewer and ending it in a close-up shot while other characters end in medium shot. The murder mystery plot has many layers which can be a little difficult to follow but all comes together eventually. The film has bright lightness but shifts more towards medium dark to dark scenes with shadows created on characters faces and interiors which creates the sinister mood. Overall, the movie emphasizes the sweet innocent relationship between the characters which blossoms throughout the ups and downs of the melodrama where emotions are heightened during exciting events leading up to a fairytale victory.
Yo, Cult Cinema classics. This is not the 1962 version of Edgar Wallace's Story. This is the 1940 British version. And yet, this film only exists because the British Board of Censors lifted a ban on Supernatural and horror films produced in England back in the middle 1930s. And one more thing, Wallace was known to be a prolific writer in his lifetime. He had pinned various serialized short stories loosely based on his experience as a Daily Mail journalist assigned to Africa. He also wrote a cornucopia of crime novels and detective serials. Although Wallace died under mysterious circumstances in 1932 at only 56, he is well known today for penning the original screenplay for King Kong. However, Wallace had initially titled his script, The Beast. (☉‿☉✿)
If they knew how easy those old locks were to pick, they could've saved themselves a lot of trouble. But then we wouldn't have a movie.😄 Thanks for uploading these!
THE DOOR WITH SEVEN LOCKS, aka CHAMBER OF HORRORS, was shot in England in 1940, at the height of the German bombardments of London. 1962 is definitely wrong.
Someone with the name of XyzXyz wrote a really nasty note that the title and description state 1940, "where the hack" did I get 1962? Well, I do state that the film was shot in 1940, and I just noted an error in the description that mentioned the year 1962,. My entry was made about a year ago. Thankfully it has been corrected.
I found this Movie because of The Last of Us 2. There was a poster for this film on a wall in a library. I typed it in to see if it was a real thing or if the developers made it up. Now I can watch it.
Good movie seen it now several times so I'll be passing this time. If this is your first time watching you may want to put on CC because the audio is a bit muffled.
I use a laptop, so I bought a BT speaker years ago. Pretty much ruins it if you have to strain to hear, and a lot of old films had bad audio to begin with, much less after they've been copied and posted ? times. Stable Volume option ( settings icon ) helps a lot, too, when available.
This is another version of or sequel of *The Most Dangerous Game!" This one involves less horror than in the *The Most Dangerous Game, but the similarities is quite clear.
_Aww, my dearest Helen! Actually is the very same movie, showed here in two versions...one in the original B&W and another in a colorized version...So we can make a choice...I Always like much more to see the color version! This is an old german movie from 61 years ago, a Cult movie indeed! Horror, mistery & Suspense, all in one! I hope you enjoy it with us here on CCC movie chat at live...! God bless you always, my dearest Helen!_ 🤩🤩🤗🤗
Straight from Wiki- The Door with Seven Locks is a 1940 British horror film, created and released shortly after the British Board of Film Censors lifted its mid-1930s ban on supernatural-themed and horror genre films. Imagine this film, as well as Frankenstein etc banned !
The 'mumbles' at 9:40 is 'George Raft pyjamas'. There are also some huge errors based on the writer of the subtitles being American (10 buck - far too much then - instead of 10 BOB at 7:31 - favor instead of favour) and obviously being young hadn't heard of George Raft or Lucretia Borgia. For a British film these errors are annoying
Yes. But it seems surprising that the poisoning cup that was used by Dr. Manetta to kill himself was owned by the Stewarts (Scottish) a/ka/ Stuarts (French). A quick search found no connection between the Royal House of Stewart and poison.

Wow, they really had a bad opinion of marriage. He said a woman should be caged and then shot at 20. In a lot of those B/W movies, the women are very bossy and high maintenance. Maybe that’s the way those women were in Europe in those days? But it wasn’t the women in my small town, nor the surrounding areas.
They just put women into stereotypical boxes in those days. Everything was made and written by men. You had the young, pretty, love interest, the elderly (over 35) straightlaced and maybe slightly batty spinster, the battleaxe, or the concerned mother. That was about it
That's why I'm glad for the captions! 😊 Maybe not all the words are accurate, but it's surely easier to follow the story than if there were none. That's how I feel about the poor colorizing too, in that one. Not a great job, but for me it does help a bit in seeing the details more clearly! 😉😉👍
He thinks he's on his deathbed - at 65?? Anyone that does look like that at 65, definitely needs to worry! a bit disappointing because the acting was so wooden. Never mind tho, still fun to watch! Thanks
I like your movies but I cannot continue to watch them because the difference in volume between the movie and the commercial is deafening You might be losing more viewers than you think because many people are too lazy to make this remark. It’s really a shame. I cannot tolerate this excessively loud noise. I won’t bother to tune in again. It has happened three times. Goodbye
@@Doug.-ce5uy very very funny says me, continentsEdge. A leetle bit overwrought I admit but I am very deaf and so the variance in volume is deafening for me. I am reminded of a saying, “when you’re deaf, the whole world mumbles”

If you're someone who watches a lot of these old movies, and maybe old TV shows, you might want to invest, maybe $100 in a wireless speaker. It hooks up to your phone, just go into settings, it's easy, and you'll be set! I have a Bose, but I'm sure there's less expensive ones out there. We play political channels on our phone as we drive, and that allows us to hear over road noise too.

He died at age 56...and so did the man in bed at the beginning, here 1872 to 1928.
