      Jazzmaster pickups have magnetic pole pieces, like a Strat, but the wind is wide and shallow. These pickups, even though JM pickup shaped, have slug pole pieces that share a common bar magnet underneath. This is why these particular pickups are, for all intents and purposes, P90-style pickups. Also, that's why they have pole pieces with a flathead screw adjustment at the top for height, just like a P90 pickup.

      But they LOOK like them!

    • @ClintsGuitarsNGear

      They're not intended to be P-90s however they are actually of a much closer design in this particular guitar than they are to a common Jazzmaster pickup. Which is why I think they actually sound quite good.

    My DIY Frankenstrat is made from a Squier Affinity body. Also, I have a Squier Affinity Tele. Both are excellent! The Affinity line gets far too much flak from gear snobs and cork sniffers who are too lazy/arrogant to lean a decent guitar setup procedure.

      also there are too many people on yt who dont even know they have to change strings and stretch them, or that they have to lower the action to their liking because manufacturers will ship a bit high on purpose

    • @Axess-sv8nq
      @Axess-sv8nq 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@0000song0000 There are several TH-cam channels (not naming names) which are secretly sponsored/bought-off by guitar companies. They do misleading videos like 'I bought the cheapest guitar on ....' and similar. They unbox the guitar, give it a simple tuning (and NOTHING else), play it normally or roughly, and then tell people to avoid it when it goes out of tune (because the strings still have slack and the guitar wasn't set-up AT ALL).
      Hundreds of thousands of people watch those channels and take their word as law. So, the naive subscribers/watchers immediately think that they need to buy a very expensive guitar to get any quality - usually whoever the channel is sponsored to. The music store channels do kind of the same thing. But, they will compare a budget electric guitar to a $1000+ one. And to make the difference bigger, they will put the budget guitar slightly out of tune, and/or not set it up, and/or set the amp EQ to make the guitar sound terrible. I've seen several of them do it.
      Many gear snobs and cork sniffers love that stuff because it feeds their egos and keeps them from doubting the over-paying that they do for their image. I find it pretty distasteful and misleading - and speak out about it on the respective comments sections. But, of course, I get ignored by the other commenters, or blocked by the store, TH-camr. Can't have that pesky truth getting out!

    This version is very bare bones
    It feels like it should have been part of the Bullet Series(Cheaper lineup) because for an Affinity vesion made in Indonesia you should get the original control layout and bridge and tremolo.
    Because with the standard point bridge and tremolo with single coil you're getting a stratocaster in the shape of a Jazzmaster.

    It's a nice, good sounding guitar but it's really not a Jazzmaster in anything but name and shape. Without the pickups, bridge+vibrato, or rhythm circuit, it doesn't really justify the name.

    • @dclipper8052
      @dclipper8052 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @walkerbetweenworld No, they aren't Jazzmaster pickups. They have ceramic magnets; they're built the way P90s are built. It really doesn't sound like a Jazzmaster and it's really not as close as you're going to get to sounding like one. Item by item, it possesses none of the features that give a Jazzmaster its sound. Mechanically speaking, it's basically a P90 Strat.
      I'm not faulting anyone for liking it, as it is a good sounding guitar--I'm merely stating that it's not a Jazzmaster.

    • @dclipper8052
      @dclipper8052 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @walkerbetweenworld I think your best bet would be to keep an eye out for a used Vintage Modified Squier Jazzmaster, which has become the Classic Vibe now. This is how I entered the Jazzmaster world. I got super lucky, finding mine for $100, which you probably won't duplicate but $200 you might actually do. Mine came with custom pickups so I can't speak to the stock ones but I think they're decently regarded.
      But it's more than the pickups. It's the silly bridge that you will probably learn to hate, it's the subtle action of the vibrato, which you'll also become annoyed by, since the arm tends to flop around unless you tweak it where it inserts. It's a whole package of ancient Fender tech. I really had no idea what the big deal was until I got one. I was disdainful of its quirks for a week or two but loved the sound from the get go. I put flats on mine and I'm stoked to the max every time I put this song on and realize my guitar sounds exactly the same: th-cam.com/video/23gWxazYQtU/w-d-xo.html
      As for you, though, there are plenty of great sounds to be had and you're clearly happy with the Affinity so maybe it's not worth it. It's just a different sound, not necessarily better. I'm into it because I love surf and it's one of the foundational classics.

    • @dclipper8052
      @dclipper8052 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @walkerbetweenworld My opinion is that Fender's motivation for creating this guitar was not the historic Jazzmaster but the newish G&L Doheny. G&L's MFD pickups are fairly similar to P90s and with the 2-point vibrato (which is a G&L original), the Squier is a pretty solid approximation of the Doheny.
      So to tie it all together: I think Fender named this thing a Jazzmaster only because they wanted to use the Jazzmaster body shape because that is the shape G&L used for their Doheny, which is their own take on the Jazzmaster, except that it's really not much like the Jazzmaster at all.
      I agree that the Squier is a keeper. This video and others have made me want one too!

      @@dclipper8052 stay in your line you know nothing about electronics. The magnet material does not define the pickup type, the design does, this is a Jazz Master designed pickup.

      @walkerbetweenworld don’t listen to him, he is ignorant. I am an electrical engineer, these are Jazz Master pickups. Pickup types are defined by design to by the magnetic core material.

    Looks great.. No offense but the tunes you were playing kinda transported me back to the early sixties… In that I never intend to play that genre of music, I would have preferred something more relevant to today….. Inasmuch as those are strictly Jazzmaster single coils - not P90’s..I honestly have no idea of what this guitar can sound like playing either rock or blues.
