I'm touched beyond words. Saw your video pop up and was so glade you had gobbler success. Knowing how close you and Scott were, I immediately saw the mood change to one of deep thought. Your friendship was special. He was proud to be a colleague and fellow turkey hunter with you. Thanks for recognizing Scott. Be safe this season and best wishes.
A new beginning; new boots, new stock and a new season without your good friend...I suspect he will continue to guide you. Thanks for having us along Shane, a good hunt and a nice tribute
Congratulations on your bird, way to start 2023! In memory of Scott Hook, hit me to. Continued prayers for his family and yours. God bless y'all 🙌 🙏 ❤️.
I’m going through the same thing. I lost my turkey hunting mentor recently. I got pretty emotional the other day on the public land we hunted together. Gonna be a tough year. RIP Scott Hook and Rusty Johnson.
Sorry to hear about your friend. I've lost friends of young age and it's horrible. May peace be with you and your buddy! Great videos. You always get me pumped for our season here in Maine got to wait til May to hunt. RIP Scott.
Great hunt and video. I'm always impressed by your approach and how you work birds. I'm very sorry for the passing of your friend. The reflection, memory and tribute to him at the end is fitting and beautiful.
Nice video Shane. One of my best friends passed almost two years ago. I hunted his farms for over thirty years. Just hasn’t been the same. He taughtme how to hunt turkey and deer. Miss him dearly. Got a few birds on his old farm and I’m looking forward to this season, good luck to you this year.
Another awesome hunt Shane! Thanks for sharing. I’m sure you will miss Scott and think about him all the time. God bless you and keep you safe in the woods my friend.
Congrats Shane! I always love watching your videos. This will be the first turkey season in a long while that I won't be chasing turkey. My work has brought me to Central Asia so I'll have to experience the foreseeable turkey seasons through other hunters now. I have learned so much for your channel about woodsmanship, when to call, when to shut up, how to call, etc. I tell all of my hunting buddies about your channel and say watching your videos is "like having the best turkey hunter around as your hunting buddy". On this particular hunt, I found myself freezing in place while on my couch as those gobblers approached. I guess I was imagining myself there with you and did not want to spook your turkey. Haha.
I find early season before greenup to be a mixed bag. Good that toms without hens will be callable but before greenup it’s harder to find a good setup spot. One month til opener where I live and I’m jonsin for it. You just gave me a fix to last me a day until THP puts out another video.
Sorry to hear about Scott passing away. He will always be remembered as a GREAT man, with a kind heart. He will be sorely missed. Nice job on a out on the first morning.
Scott will forever be with you on EVERY hunt and will continue talking to you daily in new ways. Your tribute to him was beautiful and starts your journey to mentor, guide, inspire and lead others the way he has.
That’s what it’s all about. Last November, I sat my first rifle season with my oldest son (7 yrs) next to the same tree my dad and I set next to when I had my first rifle season at 12 years old, nearly 30 years ago. 5 years later, he would pass away suddenly, and I only held onto the love of hunting because it’s where I feel closest to him. Glad to see you’re honoring a friend the same way by getting out there. It hurts sometimes, and it’s different from what it ever has been since then, but it’s so worth it to keep going.
condolences for the loss of your friend Mr. Hook. congratulations for a successful hunt. and my hats off to you for not chasing after the bird because you thought another hunter might be going after him. a lot of people would not care and went after him anyways.
Man, wasn't ready for that. Brought some feels for sure. Sorry for the loss of a friend and mentor. There's not a better way to pay tribute than to appreciate the moment and the memories. You may not think it, but you are a mentor I've never met. I appreciate the work you put in and the real you that you show in your videos. I've never turkey hunted, but will give it a try in 1 month and your videos are on the top of my list when it comes to chasing these awesome birds. Thank you.
Your calling sounded excellent Shane like awesome and you know if possible your great friend Scott watched the whole Hunt play out just like it was meant to be sorry for the loss and heartache!!! Keep chasing your dreams and never forget what you’ve accomplished
Yea. I’ve ordered from hooks and run his calls but never met him. My condolences to you. He sure will be missed. I don’t know him but it floored me hearing of it. Good job on the gobbler Shane. Perfect. What state was you in.
Another great video thanks for sharing! Thanks for sharing about Mr Hooks. I just bought (back mid January) calls from him and I was having some trouble and he gave me the brown hooks ball cap. I bought two small frame batwings and two small combo cut. One each not opened and they will stay that way and will for sure take care of the cap. I'm sure he is smiling down and assisting where he can. Loosing a friend is hard but a hunting buddy is always missed. Will for sure be thinking about you!
RIP Scott. Was tough to hear. I have a few Hooks mouth calls and a Owl hooter that I have had for years. Never met him but think of him each time I use a call. Congrats on turkey Shane. That tan stock looks better than the florescent green you were toting a while ago. You taught me, never paint a gun in dark 😀
Shane, that's a great tribute to Scott! I still have a few calls he built for me several years ago. I'm torn whether I want to use them or keep new. I know he'd want me to hunt them and remember him that way but I'm not ready to do that at the moment. The turkey hunting world lost a great one for sure!
@@ShaneSimpsonHunting Yep, I'd say you're spot on. I'll see what I have and definitely put one in the vest this year. But, I have to save a select few for sentimental purposes. Good luck the rest of your season!
Nice shot! For a minute there, I thought that you were not going to get up and check to see if you hit it. I was thinking that you may have hit him hard enough for him to go down but I felt that he was going to get back up and get away. So sorry for the loss of your friend.
So sorry for your lost Shane😔 It will be my first year of hunting, I just got all the permits I need (here in quebec, canada) and my first hunt ever will be spring Turkey hunting. It is something that I dreamed about for a long time! Your videos are my teaching lesson!! And I dream of being as good as you with the calls!! 😅 Have a good 2023 turkey hunting season!❤
I talked to Scott a few times over the years. Would call to order something and end up talking for quite a while several times. Great guy! He will be missed!🙏

Nice start to the 2023 turkey season. Really exciting when they Crest the hill, right in front like that.
Nicely done Shane…. No face paint this year though??
Yeah, I'll be using face paint from time to time. Just didn't feel it was necessary on this hunt. Lol
