I can't tell what I'm more surprised at: That the algorithm decided to bring up a video about my local mall in the middle of my regular recommendations, or that I'm not the only person from Watertown lured in.
I’m not even from Waterton or even a regular visitor but my car broke down there once on a road trip and I stayed for a week Surreal seeing this in my recommendations
When Lexington Co bought the Watertown mall, they jack the rentals up forcing a lot of the businesses out, alot of the places that were in the mall now have their own building or are in a strip mall
I haven't been to this mall for almost 20 years back in 2006 to 2008 which I remember it had Pizza Ranch, Sam Goodies, a bare bone arcade, a book store which even sold strategy guides, and there was even a photo booth at that time. Yes it has seen better days but those days are gone now.
I remember growing up there. Past the Harbor Freight used to be a hall that connected JCPenny with the rest of the mall, and there was a Sam Goody and across from it an arcade called Electric Rainbow. They closed early 2000s, after KMart was gone, but I still remember Electric Rainbow being a huge deal for birthdays. Always wanted to work there when I grew up, but never got the chance.
I think you would enjoy River Hills Mall in Kerrville, Texas. It is a small town 70s mall. There's Wonderland of the Americas in San Antonio which is a semi-dying 1961 mall with a lot of the 1960s aesthetics. North Star Mall is a late 50/early 60s mall still thriving in San Antonio. The Shoppes at La Cantera is a hybrid of outdoor/indoor in San Antonio that is absolutely stunning.
I knew you were going to go back to catch that Radio Shack location! 🤣 I assume there was maybe a nice fountain in that center court decades ago? That one food spot in the center court with the curved radius gold facade was some nice vintage flavor! Maybe an Orange Julius at opening?
I live in Watertown, there was never a fountian there. The food spot once was Baskin Robins, then it was called Penguin (still ice cream shop) later it was turned into Pretzel Maker til about 7-8 years ago when it went under.
I miss Electric Rainbow arcade and Sports Cards Plus. Every Sunday I’d go to the card store and look at all the 1st generation Pokémon cards. I remember the old coveted holographic Charizard being for sale there.
actually 2 places to eat, godfather pizza and senor max's, one of the most annoying things about this mall and the one in aberdeen is the potholes in the parking lots. the owner never fixed them for years. up until recently the city paved some of it im pretty sure
Sioux Falls is the big competition, especially after the Interstate speed was raised to 75 then 80. it's now just over an hour from Watertown to Sioux Falls. And they have a lot better shopping.
Not really. This mall was dead way before the 80mph speed limit. Watertown hasn’t cared about this mall in a long time. It really just needs to go away. It’s just an eyesore.
@@TheStevenskaalerudthey moved into the crnux or souix valley coop when my stepdad picks me up he usually gives me a burger or pizza and I'm a teenager So I am allowed to be on youtube.
Something can be said for a community who does not change much over the years. Still too cold for me to make it worth all the amenities that are clearly there.
I’ve been here for 10 years and a lot has changed. Malls just are not a thing when you can get everything shipped online. You need a few hundred thousand to support a mall now. There have been many ideas as to what to do with the mall but every idea ends up with simply building a new building for whatever idea was thought of for the mall. It really just needs to be flattened but a few businesses keep it open.
This is really sad, and why stop in when there is what maybe 6 stores, and the prices are insane. Angels Attic is keeping the mall together, Watertown needs better food, this town food is bad, no good Chinese or mexicican, and coming from a different state u can't find nothing good to eat here

Fr, so odd to see Watertown Mall lmfao

dewd im from watertown aswell!!
Weird seeing our mall. Its been dead for years. The Godfathers moved out a couple months ago, now only Senor Max's is there for food.
Thanks for walking us past the old Radioshack. I appreciate it!
When Lexington Co bought the Watertown mall, they jack the rentals up forcing a lot of the businesses out, alot of the places that were in the mall now have their own building or are in a strip mall
Additionally, they refused to do shorter leases, which killed the anchor stores when their respective chains were struggling.
What the crap. Never thought I’d see my mall on a video. This is wild. Cool video!
Very rare to see this quality of mall review on our hometown!
I remember going there at least twice a month even when parents considered it a major pilgrimage, to drive ~35 miles from Clark, on US-212.
I swear Bath n Bodyworks is the only place keeping our mall alive😭 Thanks for visiting!
Been in SD for 2 years and have never set foot in that mall. Looks like i havent missed much.

Oh wow! That Herberger’s sign on the outside overhang entrance!!! Sweet!!! 👀

good ol days
Good video and mall. Wow, I like the waterfall at the end. It looks really beautiful and is soothing to listen to.
The mall in Watertown is so dead it used to be so cool😭
Haha! Ummm... I live in Watertown... And have been for 2 weeks as a college kid I didn't even know there was a mall..
I actually live in Watertown. I remember most of what he talks about. Can confirm that what he said is true.

Harbor freight and Arby's is the only reason I stop in that parking lot when in town. Good info.

It was an orange Julius! One of my favourite places as a kid
@@kryptickaox I don't remember watertown mall ever having orange julius
Thanks for the video and history! Cheers.

Totally crazy to see my own mall on here lol

Godfathers moved out a few months ago and is now an express location in the Sioux Valley Co-op.
YOU WERE IN MY TOWN?? YOU WERE LITERALLY 20 MILES AWAY FROM ME LOLOLO

this video makes me sad... i havent been in there for a few years and it somehow is still kicking so at least that makes me a bit happy
Bro I live here, Dunhams is about the only thing running in our place
There’s also a 😅Godfathers pizza in the mall. The Maurice’s just recently moved out into a store front in a higher traffic spot.
Godfather's left the mall a month or 2 ago.
@@TheStevenskaalerudthat’s right and I was pissed! I loved that taco pizza

It’s like everyone in this comment section lives in our town
This must be one of the most outdated malls there is. Great video!
@2:39 when you show that big wall at the end of the mall and you are talking about JCPenney, JCPenney was located right at that wall.

1st. You are a long way from home?
Please make the video on central mall , Texarkana tx
I can name what used to exist in basically every spot.
Its so dead lol..wished the mall had some better shoe stores, same for clothing!
Is this the only mall in South Dakota other that empire mall in Sioux falls and Rushmore mall in rapid city?
Brookings still has a mall
Pierre at least used to have one, across from the Walmart.
Wait what the fuck I live there.
whats the dubbed song at 9:08?
South Dakota? Is that in Canada?
no, the unites states
You're being sarcastic Brian?
Watertown is actually big enough to HAVE a mall? This totally blows me away! I would think Watertown would be lucky enough to have portapotties.
