    Lived in Thunder Bay my whole life. Have seen many changes over the years at these malls. Lots of memories. You do a very good job presenting these with a respectful, calm and I wanna say caring approach. Very well made vids. 👍❤️

    The two storey part of the mall was part of the former Simpsons-Sears building. There is a subtle change in height of the mall's ceiling at Tip Top Tailors that marks the transition of the original mall to the mall expansion which was comprised of much of the old Simpsons-Sears building in addition to some new construction including the "new" two storey Sears department store. The second level of the mall (office galleria) used to house the Simpsons-Sears Family Restaurant as well as the Sears Catalogue Department.

    Thanks for the dedication to filming these places, even for me this mall is approximately a 10 hour drive away so the next best way is too see it digitally! Glad you got to have the New York Fries chain, its a must try!

      Yeah it's inteesting when I visit mid size , small size Canadian city malls, there's something about the designs compared to US or probably Toronto type large malls. Maybe it's the width of the corridors for in line tenants or perhaps it's the height to the ceilings which seems smaller in comparison to US malls. I'm guessing it's to keep shared space heating and cooling costs down or maybe it's a structural component to help.handle snow loads.

      @@markbajek2541 Yes I've been thinking this myself! You really don't see many standard mall layouts here unless your in the famous cities such as Toronto or Montreal. I think your theory on how small corridors in small cities to have heated indoor shopping for the cold winter months makes very real sense! (Rather than actually trying to go for a completely full-scale mall development.) Thanks for the reply.

    Wow, that's an unusually lively looking mall in this post-mall age! Shocked to hear that Target pulled out. When I was kid we shopped at the original Target next to Har Mar Mall.

    You should come to Viking Plaza Mall in Alexandria, MN again. Half of the mall has been closed because of a Kohls and TJ Maxx opening with no mall entrances.

      I did take some video in 2023 and 2024 during construction of the Kohls. I got a few photos of the sketchy, temporary restroom from 2023. I'll have a third Viking Plaza video someday. Maybe one more visit in 2025 and then a video.

    before it changed to Intercity Mall, when it was just Simpson-Sears & the strip mall there was also Consumers Distributors & Radio Shack

  • @liquididentity101
    @liquididentity101 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    On weekdays Intercity is where senior walking groups gather and the unemployed come to hang out in the food court. It gets busier around 5pm and then it closes at 8pm. Weekends and holidays see some traffic but the mall is not a hot spot these days. Mostly clothing, shoe, and homewares stores. The Thunder Centre across the road provides numerous strip mall locations and sees much more patronage than the mall. ISC is a relic of past times.

    I need that TacoTime and Mountain Warehouse. There was a Mountain Warehouse at an outlet center north of Pittsburgh (I think Grove City) and I remember it having some decent clothing for really cheap prices!

    I live in Thunder Bay, and never go to Inter-city Mall. Wait, I did just go to the Dollarama, but not into the mall. I used to go there once a year during Christmas shopping just to run into friends back for the holidays. Not any more.

      unless its holiday shopping its normally not super busy. Its the "biggest" in NW ontario for the sole reason that there arent any huge cities here, its mostly small towns and wilderness. With the advent of online shopping most people just order things these days from stores that used to fill malls, and the population in TBay just isnt enough to keep niche places going like they used to, except a few exceptions
