LYRICS
Nothing better than a rainy day with you
Sunday and there's nothing here to do
We had nothing to spare when we started
But my parents had a condo in Santa Barbara (Santa Barbara)
And now we're stuck in this bungalow park
But your silly words keep me out of the dark
We're getting high on your father's whiskey
I'm so happy you're with me, just glad that you're with me
Back at this old little house at the bay
We never cared 'bout the world anyway
Nothing but gray skies from here to the city
I'm happy you're with me, just glad that you're with me
[Verse 2: Nataly Dawn, Benny Sings]
Can we wait a little longer? 'Cause I'm tired
Just wait 'til we get stronger, then we'll fly again
Some people want adventure and let their heart out
Some people bottle up in Santa Barbara (Santa Barbara)
And now we're stuck in this bungalow park
But your silly words keep me out of the dark
We're getting high on your father's whiskey
I'm so happy you're with me, just glad that you're with me
Back at this old little house at the bay
We never cared 'bout the world anyway
Nothing but gray skies from here to the city
I'm happy you're with me, just glad that you're with me
And I'm happy you're with me
I'm so happy you're with me
I'm so happy you're with me
I'm so happy you're with me
And now we're stuck in this bungalow park
But your silly words keep me out of the dark
We're getting high on your father's whiskey
I'm so happy you're with me, glad that you're with me
Back at this old little house at the bay
We never cared 'bout the world anyway
Nothing but gray skies from here to the city
I'm happy you're with me, just glad that you're with me
[Post-Chorus: Benny Sings, Nataly Dawn]
And I'm happy you're with me
I'm so happy you're with me
I'm so happy you're with me
I'm so happy you're with me
I'm so happy you're with me
I'm so happy

Any Dutch fans here who know the original version??
Know the Dutch version very well, but must say love both
Pretty weird, hearing this English rendition, love the original! BTW, Zoutelande is one of my favorite holiday destinations.
Yeah! But the original original version is actually German. The Dutch band BLØF covered it from a German song called ''Frankfurt Oder"
Maybe, but I might be bløffing
Yeah, like this version too but at times it SUV’s a bit… hasty, the original is, at least sounds, slower; I think that’s slowness matches the emotion of the song a bit better 🤷♂️
Brilliant! Dutchie here ;) I definitely know the original version! It’s a German song called “Frankfurt Oder”, and the Dutch version is called “Zoutelande” by Bløf. the premise of the song(s) is to feel happy even in a desolate and remote place. Great version guys!
Inderdaad, dit is een interessante versie
Funny that I'm finding out in Pomplamoose's comment section that Zoutelande is not an original song... I guess this would be the original then th-cam.com/video/Mg3CdijJe24/w-d-xo.html
Dat wist ik niet. Eigenlijk Duits? Geweldig.
@@crispijnwind6640 Correct, the original is the one by Bosse. :)
Now, this is totally amazing but also really unexpected. I loved "Frankfurt Oder" when it came out here in Germany and thought the lyrics and song where just genius. A few years later, I heard the version by Bløf accidentally on Dutch radio while I was driving. The concept of the garden pavilion had been transformed to a beach house and Frankfurt Oder became Zoutelande. Really clever because it wasn't a simple 1:1 translation of the words but instead the whole melancholic idea and meaning had been carried over into Dutch. I would have never ever expected to hear this very European song from a US band. Congrats to discovering this gem! Wow, can't believe I'm now following this song through 3 different languages over the years.
The "Garden Pavilion" was actually a tongue breaker in the original, same with the "bin froh das du da bist" which almost sounds like "bevor das du da bist". I think the Dutch has the most interesting lyrics, with sentences like "Op mistroostige plekken je bij me te hebben" and "met wodka en bokking tussen reddingsbanden". Bungalow Park in the English version sounds mainstream holidays, and "getting high on your father's whiskey" sounds like magic mushrooms were exchanged for whiskey in the final version.
I like your analysis which is, in my opinion, spot on.
Anything with Benny is gold.
Thank you for the intro to his music.
Heard this cover on Dutch radio, had to check it out again. Really like it. Originally it's a German song and I like how your version keeps both that original one's spirit and the Dutch cover's spirit intact
Perfect song to launch the summer. One great thing about Pomplamoose is the extraordinary diversity of their music portfolio. I don't think there is anything they can't play and play well!! Have to admit I'm groovin' on Nick Campbell's baseline. Putting this song on a lop for awhile!!
Seriously with the baseline.
I get so incredibly excited when I see fresh Pomplamoose. This music is absolutely incredible.
Eens
Santa Barbara's never sounded so chic... this track is like a cozy bungalow for my soul.
yuh YUH yuh (to the beat with the music with hands and the smiles!)
Fantastic. Never would have thought to hear my favourite German songwriter's song played by one of my alltime favourite bands. Thank you so much for that. PS: Kartoffelschnaps und Bockwurst!
While I was driving home today (horrific traffic jams) they played your version on the Dutch radio! I was so happy you guys were with me 😊. Pomplamoose reaches over seas.
Grew up in Santa Barbara. Heard this on the radio, loved it, and had to look it up. I first heard these guys years ago in the Bay Area, great groove!
It never rains in Santa Barbara !
J'écoute pomplamoose depuis peu, mais quel délice, la voix de Nathalie et l'éclectisme du choix de leurs reprises, me booste tout les matins.
Continuez et bravo aux musiciens
Loved this - such a beautiful flowing melancholic song. And of course listening to/watching Nick play such a lovely bass line is worth the click in itself.
So I went and watched the live version of Zoutelande and I love that even more.
So happy we get a second dose of this dream collab!!! 🔥
Agree. Would love to hear more from them. Beautiful together
Keep shining guys, stay positive.
Such a treat! Great vocals, instrumentals, and production. Thank you all.
Thanks thanks & more thanks from Spain!!! Pleassse, continues work together!!!👏👏👏😃
Another fun one! Great work all!
really happy I found you Pomplamoose people through a Benny Sings non stop soundtrack from the west of Ireland tonight.
Woool! That's beautiful! Congrats, guys 👏👏👏
As a Dutchie, finding this was a pleasant surprise! Maybe one day cover the beautiful Onderweg by Abel too!
I think this is my favorite so far this year, love it so much
omg i love benny sings!
Always been a sucker for tight harmonies, and you made what sounded to me like a 3-part sound *so* tight. Good work, indeed!
This is my favorite of all the ones you have done, I just loved it!
Gosh this song, can't stop listening ❤️❤️❤️
+++Ditto - it's now a single on Spotify!
This is a really happy sound! Just love the rhythm and the harmony!
Obsessed with all these Benny Sings collabs! 😍
I love that despite the massive success of creating the Patreon website, you are still happy to make these videos.
I think this what I love most about you.
when i read the title i was like, surely its not dutch or the song i think it is. but im glad it is :D
Sweet!
It's really awesome. Thanks you from Russia for your creativity.
Isn't there a nice seaside resort in Крым - Krym for a Russian version of this song? ;-) Greeting from the Netherlands.
Love it!
Hey folks! Brian's back once more! Yeah! Enjoy!
i love this song
Great song!
Another fantastic performance from you all!
Kool Track!!!
wow. beautiful. also "hey it's Benny Sings that got recommended on Professional Musicians React awhile ago!"
Exquisite!
summertime always evoked a certain sadness for me. maybe it was those lonely, hazy nights in OC. Santa Barbara is an appropriate choice. i never discovered the allure of Hearst Castle. i was too late. thanks for this cover song. i like this Benny Sings experiment. he's kinda unique. btw i applaud the live instrumentation.
Brilliant sounds and harmonising
This is amazing 👏
Love this. I'm dutch and I would love to hear you sing it in dutch also.
Yesss
That would be a very interesting version.
Though do keep in mind Natalie is fully bilingual in english and french, which helps tremendously with the french songs. It's unlikely the dutch would be as good.
This is so great, a dutch meme song turned cool(er) with that Benny X Pomplamoose sauce🔥
Lovely song
Nice n flowing !
Parabéns!
Sempre excelentes!
Só música maravilhosa Santa Bárbara, escuto todo momento, que música, que arranjo é uma loucura este povo A Nat o Jack e demais sao fora de serie, abraços meu povo.Rf Brasil.
I love your music !! From Lima, Perú
Hello from Brazil 🇧🇷
Late night tales brought me here peace ✌️☮️
Gives me goosebumps
This is just FUN..! From the "silly words" sung with humour - to some of the expressions on the faces of your (very talented) musical maestro's - you all obviously enjoyed making this..!
Your voices sound really good together.
So this is actually the American version of the Dutch version of the German original ! 🇺🇸🇳🇱🇩🇪
(NL : Zoutelande by Bløf ; GER : Frankfurt Oder by Bosse).
The ' Santa Barbara' version is different from the other two..quite creative ( may be a a hint of 'if i ever feel better' by french duo Phoenix ? ).
And to my taste the lesser of the 3 ( sorry guys... In the music I feel less ..urgency , i guess also less emotion too).
I am not sure if the city in the title ir well chosen. The author Bosse noted that, to him "Frankfurt Oder in former East Germany , was one of the most depressing places he knew" . The very last resort , like ' you wouldn't want to be found dead in '. !
My impression is that ' a parent's condo in Santa Barbara' seems not such a bad place for a refuge. With the Pacific et al.. The city scores also high on livability (7th in US or Cali ?).....
I'd guess that ' Gary-In-diana' would have been a better title .
Love this version just like the Blof one, great work!
Ja und das Original von Bosse (Frankfurt Oder), welches die Einfachheit im früheren Ostdeutschland widerspiegelt und eine Freundschaft, ohne viel drumherum.
J adore !!!
I have to say that this is my favorite Pomplamoose song in a long time. The lyrics are bizarre, but the sound is great.
I’m not dutch but a huge fan of Benny Sings, Pomplamoose, Parcels, Daft Punk, early New Order etc.
Serious bunch of gems here !
Many thanks from France !
nice lyrics, and you almost floated
I need this song in spotify😔😔😔
wait, the song is here xd
This was a slow burn for me as I didn't know the original - but after a couple of listens I really like it!
It's also worth having a listen to the Dutch version (30M views) and the original German one.
More Benny Sings please!
POMPLAMOOSE ladies be like as smokin' hot as they are talented. well played.
Benny Bluffs! 😄
😍
Zoutelande, by the Dutch band Bløf. But the original is from Germany, called Frankfurt Oder, by Axel Bosse.
th-cam.com/video/N0OLEgc-Glk/w-d-xo.html
De Zoutelande aux Pays-Bas dans la version originale on passe à Santa Barbara en Californie dans cette reprise qui est plutôt bien réussie!
French version next? ☺️ Loved the Dutch version and love this one ❤️
Apparently, there's this already, but it's not exactly up to standard: th-cam.com/video/2tXKL8sQdx4/w-d-xo.html
listening to you is like skating on butter smelling cinnamon ...
maybe I'm hungry
BEAUTIFUL version produced by Pomplamoose. In reference to lyrics to this English translation of Zoutelande as shown in video description, here are the original lyrics (song by BLØF).
There's nothing better than braving the cold with you
There are people who emigrate to warm countries
But we have no money in our cold hands
So let's go to your parents in Zoutelande
In Zoutelande
And then we are here in the old beach house
What you say keeps me sober and warm
Above my head I see the gray clouds
I'm glad you're here, glad you're here
We are here in the rickety beach house
I never cared where we were anyway
We're drowning ourselves in your father's drink
I'm glad you're here, glad you're here
Nothing is more beautiful than crossing the country with you
In gloomy places to have you with me
And to see that it's right, see that we're fizzing
And with vodka and with bucking between life belts
And then we are here in the old beach house
What you say keeps me sober and warm
Above my head I see the gray clouds
I'm glad you're here, glad you're here
We are here in the rickety beach house
I never cared where we were anyway
We're drowning ourselves in your father's drink
I'm glad you're here, glad you're here
I'm glad you're here
I'm glad you're here
I'm glad you're here
I'm glad you're here
And then we are here in the old beach house
What you say keeps me sober and warm
Above my head I see the gray clouds
I'm glad you're here, glad you're here
I'm glad you're here
I'm glad you're here
I'm glad you're here
We are here in the rickety beach house
I never cared where we were anyway
We're drowning ourselves in your father's drink
I'm glad you're here, glad you're here
In Zoutelande
In Zoutelande
In Zoutelande
+++Thanks for the lyrics of Zoutelande for comparison!
A full comparison of the lyrics of Santa Barbara, Zoutelande and Frankfurt Oder would be pretty interesting.
The chorus of Santa Barbara swaps the themes of drinking your father's spirits with the dark skies overhead, ascompared to Zoutelande for instance.
I'm Dutch! Yay for this cover! You should check out 'Liefs Uit Londen'. That would be a great song to cover too! I can help translate if you need. (Also I can help sing it :))
This version has a cool updated yacht rock vibe ala Doobie Bros. The Dutch cover version reminded me more of a intro to a TV police procedural ala law & order.
YOU DID WHAT
Beautiful vocal harmonies! (As usual) A nice, subtle twist compared to the original, making it... well, original. :-)
💗
Delicia de som !!! ❤❤
Omg this was a Dutch song !!!!
th-cam.com/video/N0OLEgc-Glk/w-d-xo.html
Previously German!
BENNYMOOSE
Leuke versie :)
Por un momento pensé que sería el himno minero Santa Bárbara 😂
Çok güzel.
okay to get even and tribute the germans , pomplamoose should do a version of "house am see " by Peter fox
Original (german) version:
th-cam.com/video/Mg3CdijJe24/w-d-xo.html
In fact, this one would be THE original: th-cam.com/video/NLliCvivNfY/w-d-xo.html
Awesome! Would really like to see your take on a Stromae song. Bit out there, but I feel you could really make it your own in a good way
Mmm, that bassline
Les versions allemandes et hollandaise étaient déjà très abouties mais la pamplemousse transposition relève d'une maîtrise inquiétante (my summer song I'm afraid !)
Original song is German. Title Frankfurt Oder artists Bosse and Anna Loos. But i love your song. We have a lot of Dutch songs for you. Look at De Dijk a famous Dutch Band
Merci à Laetitia qui m'a fait connaître cette chaîne 👍
have u ever considered performing some Shins before? i miss James Mercer.
Curious to know who you guys discovered this indeed giant hit of 2 summers ago... BTW, it's a Belgian (Flemish) / Dutch hit. The female singer is the Flemish Geike Arnaert (know from 2 times lead singer of Hooverphonic, and BLØF, a pop band from the Netherlands. But it is not the original. The dutch version is again a cover of "Frankfurt Oder" van Bosse en Anna Loosnow.
The Flemisch/Dutch version: th-cam.com/video/N0OLEgc-Glk/w-d-xo.html
And the original German version: th-cam.com/video/Mg3CdijJe24/w-d-xo.html
It is NOT a Dutch song at all, it's German. Check out Bosse, Axel : Frankfurt/Oder. But still I love the Dutch version!
Dit is ZO RAAR maar ik vind het leuk ❤
Nice…..
More france music please. "Impossible a prononcer" is the best.
You guys should cover Bruce Springsteen's "born to run"
