    Yo the moment I found your channel here I subscribed in a heartbeat! It's rare to see dead malls in California being covered and you're doing a fantastic job with them! There's a certain feeling with dead malls at night that just brings a special sense of calm and relaxation. Please keep it up!

    I adore this video so much. I love the shots outside especially the one of the Sears store front. For some reason, I'm very drawn to quiet lonley places at night and your vid totally captured that ❤️

    I've only been to this mall one time in the early 1980's. We flirted with some girls and didn't buy anything or even go into any of the stores. Stayed at the mall about a half hour (it was pretty dead, not many people there) before leaving, most likely planning to "spot" some beer and party later that evening in Alameda.

      I'm a year late, but are you sure you were at Hilltop Mall in the 80s? People would come from everywhere to shop at Hilltop in the 80s. Macys and Emporium in the same mall was an attraction by itself. However, there were hundreds of other stores and restaurants. There were also strip malls surrounding the mall with stores and restaurants. The 80s was the Crack era. Maybe you forgot some things.😂

    Anyone remember the ice skating rink? I miss Emporium Capwells and Contempo Casuals. I used to work at this mall back in 92.

    Wonder if they shipped the carousel off to Italy like at Charlestowne. Love the fountain.

    In the 90's I used to come here all the time with my family. It would be so packed. I have so many memories of this place!

    From the area kinda thought about getting in myself a few times. Been a few more years since this . Currently suing the people that bought it Asian company lied about what they were turning it into and ended up abandoning the project. Used to be a cookie spot in that closed little section. Bringing back memories of highschool I'm from the last mall kid generation in America sad to see it die out

    Sears just released a list of 72 more stores they're closing, wouldn't be surprised to find this one on the list.

    • @TheVintageSpacesChannel
      @TheVintageSpacesChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i always expect to see it on those lists. i think maybe they're waiting to see if the remodel eventually brings more people in before deciding to close it, but that purely a guess on my part.

      COVID killed the mall. A British company wanted to turn it into a mall that caters to the Asian population in Hercules and El Cerrito. It'll be turned into a medical assembly plant.

      They boarded it up during covid and now it sits abandoned except for the Walmart. There are plans to turn it into a logistics center.

    We can thank Jeff Beso's for this. The only Mall's that do good business is in places like Las Vegas on the strip. Where there are tons of tourists and people intend to spend.
