Hey Josh, back in the mid 70's I was a Navy T-28 instructor teaching basic aerobatics. This is great stuff that every private pilot should get exposed to so that they can get comfortable recovering an aircraft from any unusual attitude. Of course the T-28 doesn't compare in any way to an Extra. Typical of WWII era airplanes, no snap maneuvers, and the roll rate was a sedate 180 degrees per second. One thing that is cool about T-28 controls is that there is a bobweight in the elevator control system which assists the pilot in high g maneuvers by unloading the back stick force so that it doesn't require a lot of stick effort to pull g's. For example, you could do 60 degree banked 2g turn using just 2 fingers and thumb on the stick, and not an armful of force to pull those g's. We taught basic aerobatics; loops, aileron rolls, wingovers, 1/2 Cuban eights; and my favorite, the barrel roll. The barrel roll is a sedate maneuver which if done correctly, is a 1 g maneuver. I also did an *unauthorized* maneuver just because; a one-quarter clover leaf which involved a pull up to the vertical with a quarter roll on the up-line; then a split S off the top to recover. Put 4 of those together and you have a vertical clover leaf. I had one student stall the airplane inverted at the top of a loop one day--he pulled too many g's on the entry which bled off too much speed, and just ran out of flying speed at the top upside down. That totally disoriented him but the beauty of the T-28 was that it was totally predictable and docile--just let the nose fall through, regain flying speed, level the wings, and pull up. I got my fill of aerobatics back then but it's training and experience that every private pilot should endeavor to put in his logbook.

Wow! Professor Paulo Iscold is a tremendous engineer! I don't know if he told you but he had designed the fastest piston single engine in the world, Anaquim, within a univeristy here in Brazil! I was not his student, but I did read and learned from his books about aircraft loads design, and his life story is awesome! Doing aerobatics is probably the time where I have the most fun in aircraft. I really want to get better at it. Paulo is an amazing instructor and you can really tell he has the passion. The thing about skidding and slipping during a stall is important knowledge every pilot should know and it was beautifully demonstrated here. It was so clear to see that the wing on the side of which the rudder is being stepped on will drop first. Cool flight.

That was maybe my favorite video that you've made. It reminds me of the first time I was ever in an airplane. I had a friend who did aerobatics in a Pitts Biplane and he took me up and did a ton of stunts until my body couldn't take anymore. It was such an amazing and unforgettable experience. Thanks for sharing that.

Aerobatics is one of the things I enjoy most about GA. Glad you got to pull as hard as you wanted. The first time you drop into an aerobatic box, it'll be up there near your first solo in terms of memories. "Seatbelts, G meter, Doors and windows!"

* G forces applied to the plane (manufacturers rating or FAA specified)

Hey Josh, how do you deal with air sickness in general? Obviously this was pushing your limits, but in general flight, do you have any tips/tricks for managing it? No coffee, etc?
Scratch the Cessna 337. Buy the Extra. Even when I was flying a Citabria, going back to the Cessna was a bit dull. Nice video.
