New Deadhead here. I'm someone who came to this music via John Mayer. His passion and clear love for it inspired me to explore the catalog and ultimately buy tickets to go to this show (my first ever live Dead experience). Also had a chance to walk through the Dead Forever experience and found the photo history of the band incredible. Now I'm listening to Closing of Winterland and other classic live shows and appreciating the differences between old/new. Thankful to all the longtime Dead fans for accepting the new generation and also learning what I've known for years about John Mayer.. that he is an absolute guitar beast but also a student of music with a deep appreciation and reverence for the legends who came before him -- Hendrix, SRV, Clapton and of course, Garcia. The Music Never Stopped.
IMHO John Mayer played Watchtower to rival Jimi Hendrix! Phenomenal. And the oh so subtle segue into Terrapin was sublime. As a 75 year old Deadhead, Mayer to me is wonderful as is the entire Dead & Company sound. They blend and mix perfectly for where they are now in our Universe. Naysayers are probably neophytes and should hold back their negative comments, and be Gratefully Deadicated that Dead is Forever...
@@michaelberberian8818 I don’t think I have ever seen John do this song with any band and it’s not good. This is definitely one of the best versions I’ve seen D & C do, one of the best ones I got to see was for Zack Brown at the Hollywood bowl like 10 years ago. I saw a video that someone got for part of it I should try to find it
Bill Walton 1st Class Human Being! The absolute Joy on Bills face / shaking his bones (which everyone could see because his head & shoulders were above everybody else), as the 1st Note played by the Grateful Dead was priceless.... Sadley, Knock Knock on heaven's door has a new resident.... Bill Walton, thanks for sharing your smile w/ all of your tie-dye friends across the world ...RIP Father Time
Johnny’s on fire here, really coming into his own. It’s all good, as the music must live on, taking new forms, while still paying tribute to the past. Counting the days until I return to Camelot.
At the end of the show you could see Jeff as they were about to take a bow just shake his head in disbelief like he couldn't believe what they just did. 😂was cool to catch that 🫠
This version of all along the watchtower might be my favorite of all time, the tempo, the solos, bobs voice, the fact that John channels Santana with that second solo, literally everything is on point here
It won't ruin anything, these videos are great but to really experience the sphere you gotta be there it'll blow your mind. Hope you got a seat for drums and space the seats vibrate to the beam.🥁🛸🌌✌️
John singing lady with a fan was really nice. His tempo and style fit really nice. Weir tried to slow down the watchtower at first but seemed to come around with the program for the second verse. Mayer did his best jimmy H impression. Very impressive. Thanks for the post
The through line for all the shows is that we (attending heads and band in the sphere) takeoff from Haight Ashbury for a journey to outer space and beyond. Some songs have more "dead" centric iconography visuals, some just psychedelic silliness but you're always experiencing the alternative universes (the dive undersea starting Terrapin was only used the 3rd night for that show) and being teleported through stars/universe throughout, until you land safely back in Haight Ashbury for the finale/encore.
@@gratefulvideos702 That sucks, should have downloaded it. If anyone downloaded this vid before it got edited, please share it cause I love this performance!
They actually NEVER retired. They just stated that they will NO longer be doing full tours traveling around. Also 😉 don’t be surprised if they do a run like this on the east coast. 😉
@@gratefulvideos702 the Sphere is cool but the product they are putting out at this point is absolute garbage. How much slower and crappier can Weir possibly make these songs?
@@beagler4234 sorry you feel that way. Honestly its starting to repeat but I'm not really there for the visuals. I've seen it 4 times already. I'm there for the music and to archive whatever I can since there is no webcast.

Congrats. It must have been pretty hard actually, but you did manage to find something to complain about! Considering the quality of Mayer's "Watchtower" solo I doubt many at the Sphere would have thought he was too loud.
Yeah, but Hendrix was ALWAYS disproportionately loud, so this is fitting. Plus these solos slay so it works. A solo is supposed to be louder as it's happening. Otherwise, it's not really a solo. If any criticism, it should be directed to the front of house sound person who makes the decision where these solos sit in the mix.

Jerry’s up there ☝🏼
Glad you're on the bus! Been on it since 1976... Enjoy!
Plus he plays on a lot of PRS guitars now. Until you get your hands on one, you won't understand what the fuss is about.
Was worried about these fans maybe they'll be alright 🍄❤️✌️
Very nicely said! 🌹🌹🌹

John Mayer is Dead to me 💀❤️⚡️🎸🎶

I've always loved this song and this is definitely up there as one of the best versions, was even better live I was on cloud 9 so so good🫠✌️

The BIGGEST
Deadhead in the🌍
Was down in 101’s.. peaked at watchtower and absolutely had my face stolen. Terrapin brought me back 🌌
God that lick at 5:18 holy hell, Mayer’s vocalization of his guitar is second to none

Your perception about the music returning to Camel has aspects of spaciousness. Go figure.

Jerry knew the way to Camelot, Johnny is getting there. Soon I hope!
I was there - this was maybe the most electric 1-2 of the many dead and co shows I’ve been too - UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!
It was something to witness! Man that show was incredible!!!
maaaaaaaaaan that guitar comes in perfectly. I bet they felt that in their souls.

These visuals are the best way to experience Watchtower! Yes, John’s guitar is amazing but a Candyman takes my money home

Some songs should never end. This is proof.
an absolutely sublime performance from john!
IWT! Can’t say enough good about the entire experience!
Me tooo! FABULOUS TRANSITION! Nailed it! 💕💐👏👏
Good looking out haha! Needed to hear that transition again ASAP 🔥
Edit: holy crap I hadnt seen the new visuals. Guess Im going back to Vegas soon.
See you there!
ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE
I'm so excited about this venue. This is as immersion as it gets.
Excellent job 💯👏
Great music great video. And wonderfully free from loud talkers.
Jeff always right on time to add a little texture
Thanks for posting this - second set was on fire! Was there the first weekend and flew back for the Sunday show 🤯
Forever Deadhead healing to return....
I’ll be posting tomorrow show live as it happens
Should have quit my job and stayed in Vegas
The Sphere is the only reason to go to Vegas.
I’m hoping to hear Terrapin when I see them next week. Fingers crossed 🤞
Daaaaamnnn. I should have stayed for Sunday as well. Thank you for posting this.

thanks for posting this. I've watched it like three times already :)
Love the transition ❤
The mix sounds good, fellas. Love the big ghost 👻 ship 🚢 of fools. 🎉

Thanks for posting. Trying not to spoil my shows which are June 13-14. But so excited I need to indulge

Hello Earth 🌎 thanks for sharing
love the trippy jellyfish
Ah Bobby. Remembering lyrics must be hard at 76. Still, a pretty solid rendition of Watchtower and solid guitar work by Mayer
Thank you so so very much!!!💝
Outstanding!
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO !!
You’re welcome

This is the fastest Watchtower I've heard DeadCo play. No tempo issues here

tempo and swing is great. Mayer just rips. Love this . dont understand the space background for Watchtower but who cares.

They have been keeping the same background for most shows. The songs change up but the video stays the same.

Why is Mayer unproportionately 3 times louder than the whole band? Yikes. 2 drums and you can barely hear either one of them. :(
